Shae was nowhere to be found because he only played 42% of the snaps. I think that will be a pattern all year, we'll be in the nickel package the majority of the time. I wouldn't be surprised to see that number dip even lower against teams who are more passing based. Another point that should take you off the ledge a bit is Jeffery(Assuming he comes back healthy) only played 49% of the snaps. When he's healthy he's gonna be out there 90%+. And call me crazy but I think the SF game is winnable. They're a good team, no question about it, but they didn't look THAT good against an awful Dallas team.

Perhaps they said in the preseason? Last year they were 5th last against the run from a yardage standpoint. He looked like shit on on that 1 play. There was a window there on that play but it was small, Williams was about 2 steps away. The other INT like Adam said was really a miscommunication on Bennetts part he was open streaking down the field and Graham was a good 5-10 yards away....The near INT late was on Holmes, he slipped out of his route.

Per request I'll keep a running thread of how Cutler and McCown do this season. Week 1 Cutler- 34/49 69% 349 yards 2 TDs 2INTs 54.8 QBR McCown- 22/35 62% 183 yards 2TDs 2INTs 2 Fumbles 21.7 QBR

Need a coverage free safety, not another in the box guy. I thought Mundy was fine.
-
Jay Cutler is not gonna sit lol.
-
Again I'm not trying to make this my argument but what I said was the truth. http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/s...fense/year/2013 They were 4th in passing yards against, 1st in opponents completion%, and also 3rd in opponents QB rating and 2nd in interceptions.
-
BTW here's McCowns other INT yesterday I could only imagine how much Jay would have got ripped for those ill advised 2 passes. Don't think Lovie was the one that told him to throw those balls.
-
There's really no point in arguing with you, but I'll bite anyway. Jay had 7 games where his passer rating was above 90. 4 games below. 2 of those games he was hurt. 1 game he was put in a real difficult situation in that Philly game where they got throttled...The 4th game I'll go ahead and say he looked like shit. Had he stayed healthy Jay was probably a pro bowler last year.
-
Actually, last year they ranked 4th in yards and they held QBs to 55% passing, which was tops in the league. I could use that in my arguments but really, it's a new year and I'll only bring that up because you asked.
-
And again I say thats debatable due to the level of talent he went against. Lovie's offenses always sucked because he never really had the talent. This year talent shouldn't be an issue. They added 3 starting OLmen and a starting TE in FA, then spent all their picks in the draft on offense including 2 more 6'5" receivers in the first 2 rounds. He started to improve in garbage time.....It's gonna be real interesting to follow all season.
-
It would have certainly helped if Alshon was out there. He played just 49% of the snaps. That takes away a huge element of the offense. Marshall was gimpy as well. They turned into last years Falcons (Julio Jones was hurt and Roddy White was dealing with nagging injuries).

Against the 31st, 30th, 24th, 20th, and 19th ranked passing Ds. If you wanna hate on Jay and think he's not gonna lead us to a title, that's fine, we all have opinions, but Josh McCown isn't the answer either and he displayed why against a talented Panthers D.
-
Good analysis.....My fears after the first game are the old guys on D will kill us. Agreed the Briggs looks fat and slow, Allen was invisible out there and is going to be a liability in the run game (I didn't want him for that reason), and Tillman is not gonna be able to stick with speedy WRs.
-
Did you watch McCown yesterday?? I watched the whole game and not only did he have 2 INTs, just like Cutler, but there were also 2 plays where he had a WR wide open for TDs that he failed to deliver....He looked awful.
-
I knew I should have just left it at the gunslinger part.....That's all I was really getting at. Both guys see windows they think they can fit it in because of their arm strength which is both a blessing and a curse.....That will probably never change, it never did for Favre, and it never will for Cutler.
-
Talking about his gunslinging "I can fit the ball in anywhere" mentality. Favre lead the league in INTs a few times. Career Completion %- Favre- 62% Cutler- 61.4% Career TD%- Favre- 5% Cutler- 4.7% Career INT%- Favre- 3.3% Cutler- 3.4% Yards per completion- Favre- 11.4 Cutler- 11.9 Yards per game- Favre- 237 Cutler- 230 QBR- Favre- 86 Cutler 84.6
-
He's Brett Favre...Far from garbage and actually pretty damn good but the gun slinger mentality will never stop him from throwing picks and you just gotta live with it.
-
Ya, I really hated throwing the ball in that situation. Even if they didn't get it on 3rd they could have gone for it on 4th.
-
There's a lot of talent on that offense though. Vincent Jackson is a monster, they spent the 7th overall pick on Mike Evans, a 2nd round pick on Seferain-Jenkins, and Brandon Myers is a reliable TE. That's a lot more talent than Lovie ever had here in Chicago.
-
Anyone know where to get snap count info? I'm interested in knowing just how much Allen and Houston played....Looked like we saw an awful lot of Allen out there on running downs when that should be Houston out there. Allen is gonna be SMC-esque against the run. Also too little too late for McCown who "picked it up" late. McCown- 22/35 183 2 TDs 2 INTs 1 fumble. 71.5 QBR Cutler- 34/49 349 2 TDs 2 INTS. 86.2
-
McCown drops the ball picks it up and throws another pick.... Also held onto the ball way too long when he had a WR open. 9/16 76 yards 2 INTs 1 fumble. Boo birds are out in Tampa.
-
McCown at the half 3/8 36 yards 1 INT.
-
Well we'll see I guess. A healthy offense will lead us to wins against good teams IMO. But it pretty much has to be totally healthy. Once Jeffery went down I'm sure Marshall, who was banged up himself, was getting bracketed which is why we saw Bennett and Forte get the brunt of the targets in the 2nd half. McCown threw a pick in his first drive....An ugly one
-
Still think saying they'll be lucky to win 4 games is silly. A healthy offense will still be good enough to win 6-8 games. But the question is will they be healthy.
