He is, but at 5'9" I don't think he fits the mold of this offense.
-
Jeff Janis 6'3" 4.37 speed, loved him at the Senior Bowl and L'Damian Washington 6'4" 4.38. Both fit the big WR mold Phil/Trestman seem to love and both have top notch speed. I don't think it's a real need, but addind one of those guys would be realllly intriguing.

By next year I meant 2015. Nuts probably gone after this coming up year so we'll have a need again at nickel next year which very well could end up being Vereen. I really think he sticks at FS though.
-
Wouldn't hate him or Mettenberger. I haven't really wanted to draft a QB but those 2 are huge value picks.
-
Also, if he does end up failing at FS he very well could end up being the nickle CB next year, we're gonna need one of those.
-
Arm length I suppose. This is a really deep draft, 4th round might seem like falling far but with all the talent in the draft I don't think we're talking about a huge plummet. CBS has him as the 101 ranked prospect. Cracker, like I said in my last post, yes, I believe he can win the camp battle between he Conte and Jennings.
-
FWIW, Pryors arms are just an inch longer and Vereen is an inch taller so it kinda evens out. Love what I read about the kids work ethic, and I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they put him in a battle with Conte that Vereen comes out on top....And not necessarily because he's "the tallest midget".

Tremendous athlete. Among FSs 5th best 40 @ 4.47 Best 20 yard shuttle by .08 seconds Best cone drill by .07 seconds Most reps with 25

Ha, I actually used to be a wrestler Doubt Carey returns kicks but I really think we already have that guy in Williams, Hixon, or Ford But ya, love this pick.

SI has him ranked as the 5th best safety...Ahead of Bucannon 5. Brock Vereen, Minnesota: Vereen, the younger brother of New England Patriots running back Shane Vereen, has moved from corner to safety and back again during his collegiate years. And it may be that his NFL future is at the cornerback position. Out of all the safety prospects in this draft class, he may have the most impressive ability to stick and stay with receivers, no matter how complex the routes get. Vereen has tremendous agility and change-of-direction skills and isn’t a pure thumper. If he stays at safety, he’d have to be a range guy, and depending on the scheme he’s in, that might rob him of the potential to make plays in the intermediate areas. But as NFL defenses move to more nickel and dime formations, hybrid defenders become more valuable, and Vereen lines up very nicely in that category. Draft projection: Round 2/Early Round 3

Bears trade up and snag my guy. Love his size/speed, bloodlines, cover skills, all of it. Finally a pick I really like. Any wrestling fans here will appreciate the drawn out Brock in the title.
-
Bears trade up to snag Vereen! Score!
-
Pretty sure they wanted a tougher back, which Carey is. Phil or Trestman, I don't remember who, said pass protection was key and I'm reading Carey is one of the best pass protectors in the class.
-
You got your boy....I don't like it.
-
A trade....I like it......Or not??? Ka'deem Carey....Yuck

Vereen/Reynolds/McGill/Exum/Desir...Make it happen.

I've been calling for 2 DTs early all offseason. These 2 weren't the names I wanted, but I trust they see something in these guys, whereas all I see are highlight tapes and read scouting reports. Ego from all I've read has a pretty good chance to be a real good run stuffing 1 technique in the NFL. Probably not as solid as Jernigan but he was gone. You can make the argument that it should have been Nix if they wanted a run stuffer butttt the Bears did work him out and obviously didn't think he'd be a fit. Sutton is a very interesting cat. I think it's worth noting that his coaches were the ones who asked him to put on the weight, so I don't think we're really dealing with a lazy kid here. If the Bears feel he can commit to getting back around his 2012 playing weight he could be a steal. Could be a very solid pass rusher. All in all I of course like the thought process of going DT-DT and completing the overhaul of the DL As for safety, I am again brought back to the quotes about Conte competing for his job. After I heard that awhile ago I had thought we'd wait till the mid rounds to grab one and that has proven to be true. I think we probably grab one with our first pick today, one of Vereen/Reynolds/Huff/McGil/Exum/Johnson/Purifoy...Or maybe even Pierre Desir who doesn't get talked about much as a FS but I think the conversion is certainly possible. Looking at first 3 rounds overall it's looked a real interesting draft. I think the whole "2R talent in the 4th" quote I heard and keep throw out there is true. We're seeing a ton of guys who we thought would go in the 4th going way earlier than that and I think that's because those guys, while mocked in the 4th, have 2R talent.

Way to ruin the suspense......Another meh pick if true.
-
BRooks? Nix? Hyde? Amaro? Some slow LB?

the 2nd tweet is the one I was reffering to in the other thread....I know a few of you said no, but I'd be all about it if they included a 4th rounder on top of it or something like that. Like the tweet says, they have first round grades on a few guys so if they're able to snag one of those guy this year its virtually a 1st for a 1st. Sigh...off to work....oh well made a friend at the condo who lets me come up on breaks
-
Rumor out there that the Bears are trying to trade a 1st in next years draft for a 2nd this year. They have 5 guys with 1st round grades still available. Ya know, maybe if a team throws in a 4th I wouldn't hate it at all. If they get one of those guys with a 1st round grade it'd basically be like trading a 1st next year for one this year. Team is built to win now IMO so all the help we can get this year is much needed. If they came out of the first 2 rounds with say Fuller/Hageman/Joyner or Brooks I'd be ecstatic.
-
FWIW Mel was a DBs coach before being a DC, so there's that. Maybe his D puts importance on the CB position.
-
Ya I can't see them passing on Hageman/Tuitt/Jernigan/Nix/Joyner/Brooks....If somehow they're all gone it wouldn't shock me to see a TE though. Amaro ranked in the top 10 in nearly every category at the combine...ran a 4.60 at his pro day, Ebron ran a 4.56. I prefer to wait and grab Lyerla, or at the very least wait till the 3rd and grab Fiedorowicz.....And that's really only if Phil wasn't blowin smoke about his apparent love for Conte.
