Deal with it-Donald wont be there

Here is what one draft guru had to say about who we pick

C.J. Mosley

Alabama LB

He is one of the most underrated players in the draft, and could be the successor to Lance Briggs or Brian Urlacher. The Bears need to take the best available defensive player. The ideal pick would be Donald, but there is virtually no way he is available at 14. Mosley is every bit the player Donald is. The difference in his draft stock is there are questions about his ability to stay healthy. If the Bears' doctors don't sign off on Mosley or if Mosely is off the board, they could go for Kyle Fuller. Others in the mix are safeties Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Calvin Pryor.

I am optimistic, if Lewan or Matthews makes it to 12, the Giants will take an OLT. They need to protect there biggest investment Manning and help another 1st RD pick Wilson RB. Then it comes down to STL. This draft can go in so many directions.

As a counterpoint, Mike Mayock's new mock draft has Donald going, incredibly, #23 to the Bengals (with Bears taking Pryor). I'm actually slowly coming around to the idea that Donald will be available - every year somone is the popular riser that everyone talks about but ends up just being a smokescreen or an attempt to get others to trade up. I'm starting to think Donald is that guy this year. Detroit makes no sense, and Minnesota doesn't make much sense. I get it a little with Tampa, but the first team picking ahead of the Bears that I think really fits is the Giants.

I just cannot imagine taking another LB at this point, after taking two with pretty high picks last year, when we have lost one of our starting safeties, the other has had surgery and is not considered to be a lock (being kind here), and we have brought in some guys who have never started much.

Don't we need a safety more than a LB? And if so, if Donald is gone and HaHa and/or Pryor are available, with me preferring Pryor, don't we want one of them?

Let's see....DJ Williams returning from a major injury that ended his season, and the 3rd or 4th season in a row he ended on IR.

SMC...not considered to be a lock to earn a spot as a starter.

Lance Briggs...returning from a major injury that nearly ended his season and he'll be required to wear a brace to support his shoulder in every game.

Bostic...promising young player who underwhelmed everyone last year.

Greene...hasn't started much and when he did he wasn't noteworthy.

....Calvin Pryor is undersized as well but he hits like a ton of bricks. He is built solidly but any questions about lack of size for Mosley apply equally to Pryor. I do like Pryor.

We need more help at MLB, if not in the 1st then somewhere before day 3 IMO. My preference is to build the Dline first.

I remember experts(including Warren Sapp) calling Shariff Floyd the perfect fit for the Bears at 3 technique and they passed on him and he dropped to the Vikings at 23. BTW Mayock has him going 24th behind Marquise Lee.Emery passed last year and could very well do so this year. I really respect Mayock's opinion because he does college games which gives him an advantage over most prognosticators but, his mock goes really out of wack at 8. Plus not 1 QB in the top 10.

So why would a 3 technique drop in most GM's eyes? They're not scheme versatile. Plus if I'm remembering right Emery is looking for versatile guys.

I'm not expert but many years ago Darnell Dockett was considered an ideal 3-tech for us. He ended up here in AZ playing DE in a 3-4 now for many years and doing it very well. His counterpart DE, Calais Campbell, is perhaps a more traditional 3-4 DE because of his size. Both are successful yet they offer different skills off the snap. I don't see why Donald can't line up and play the 3-4 DE role as Dockett does here in AZ if you make that the scheme you want to use. Donald and guys like Dockett are 1-gap players IMO (not that I really know what all the Cardinals do with him). I just don't think a 3-4 front must be all 2-gap style players especially if it's something you do as a change up now and then.

Dockett 10 years ago http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/...yers/43094.html

----------------------------------------------------------------

POSITIVES: Explosive defensive lineman who's stock has been soaring since September. Flashes great quickness off the snap, keeps his pads low and plays with leverage. Gets momentum going up the field yet has terrific range for a defensive lineman. Displays an array of moves and gets off blocks with solid hand technique. Fights hard, makes a lot of plays in the opponents backfield or down the line of scrimmage. Had a terrific week at the Senior Bowl where he was almost unstoppable.

NEGATIVES: Lacks the great bulk on the inside and engulfed by large blockers. Off the field concerns include previous arrests and run-ins with the coaching staff.

Coming out I loved Dockett and felt he fit here. I feel the same about Donald. Every year I fall in love with a player for the Bears and this year it is Donald. Last year it was Shariff Floyd. The previous year I caused an uproar during college season for proclaiming myself the president of the Alshon Jeffries fan club. I spelled his name wrong and a member of this board nit picked me for it. I turned it into a joke going forward because typing on a pc isn't my line of work. WTBS I liked Michael Haynes and Daniel Manning also based on their performance at The Senior Bowl.

I take him over either of the safeties on the board. I'd prefer corner as well. I am not a big fan of Ha Ha, especially not at 14.
