ASHKUM BEAR Posted May 16, 2014 Report Share Posted May 16, 2014 If you watch the games you will see Forte look toward the sideline and raise his hand and go out of the game this has happened a lot and may contribute to him being slighted by his peers in the top 100 players in the league. I personally think heis top 25 even if he takes himself out of the games from time to time. I've never noticed. Wonder why he wouldn't want to be in there? I like Forte.....but he has never quite convinced me. Payton did, Anderson did, even some others did in their own way, ALA Harris, Sanders, Gentry. Let's see what a motivated Forte looks like, I sure appreciate him as he is and the O Line has been terrible in the past and should improve now for awhile. Can't wait to see the finished product! madlithuanian Posted May 16, 2014 Report Share Posted May 16, 2014 I hear ya. Sadly, I think the game has changed a bit. Forte is no Walter. But he seems to be a good kid who gets results. It's hard to hate that. Sure, we'd like better results. But I really think Trestman will bring out his best. We only saw one season of that so far. I really can't wait to see more. Walter never asked to come off the field because he was basically a superhero. What an honor it was to see him be part of our team. There will never be anyone like him again. Mad L as you can see this has kind of bothered me for awhile because Forte has never been the same since his 316 attmp season as a rookie. Since then he hasn't come close to that production until we got Marshall and Jeffrey and had 289 attmp. which also was the second highest yrds per @ 4.6. There's something about him the staff doesn't like, and I think it's blocking. Lynch I think is the wild card. Maybe an H-back, TE, RB, FB hybrid...with the occassional trick play. He could also be special teams and be a kick holder. He adds an element of surprise then... I think Carey is the short yardage/Forte speller. Ford might stay as a returner/back-up. And to LemonJ and others above, I seriously doubt Forte was "taking himself out" as suggested. If he ran off a 50 yarder that ended on the one yard line, he was out of gas, maybe, because it was best for the team to have fresh legs in. But more than likely, it was by design and the coaches told him he was supposed to come off. To question the guy's character is out of line. Walter was the greatest of all greats of all time, so any comparison to Saint Payton is idiotic. Nobody will ever compare to him in any regard. The game was also different back then with far fewer specialists. Comparing 2014 to 1977 is also foolish. The games barely resemble each other, much less the players. If Walter was running against the defensive fronts, linebackers and safeties of today, his career would've likely been much shorter. Anything we can do to preserve a player like Forte, likely the second best I've seen play for the Bears at that position since the mid-70's, is to our benefit. AZ54 Posted May 20, 2014 Report Share Posted May 20, 2014 I don't get the whole Forte is "tired" complaints. He had 363 touches last year, 2nd only to Shady McCoy who had 366. Payton was usually in this same area in terms of touches but had a few seasons where he got around 400 touches. Payton was elite and sits in the Hall of Fame for that reason. McCoy is openly campaigning for less touches this year so he can have fresh legs in the 4th quarter. Forte (and Payton) should have been tired at times. I think he's doing plenty of good hard work for the Bears on the field and I'd much rather have him take a quick break than be too tired to adequately protect Cutler, or himself.
