Our new punter the 6th RD draft pick can do more than just punt. He can kick off and kick field goals as well. Bostic played with him in high school its said he made a 52 yard field goal in high school and kicked the ball out of the end zone 95% of the time with a 47.7 punting average. Wow 47.7 compared to our punter last year of what like 40.1.........might be a great pick

To waste a draft spot on him, he should be .

He is a craftsman, works hard to be the best. If he becomes one of the NFLs great punters, then it is worth the pick. Im sure every option was looked at in FAs and getting him was a priority after last seasons punter didn't help the team very often.

18 of the punters in the NFL were drafted so it's not like we're the first to do it or anything.

at least the bears weren't stupid enough to draft a punter in the second round.

oh wait.... wanny DID that. traded a 10 sack-a-year LEFT defensive end in his prime for a 2nd round pick and drafted a PUNTER!!

seriously though, a punter in the 6th is NO big deal especially if he has the qualifications this guy has. this is where you fill you needs on special teams so instead of a guy who probably doesn't make the cut we get a possible high quality punter which we desperately needed.

You just had to go there. Next some smart ass will bring up the trade for Rick Mirer.

of the 15 Punters in the last 2 years to average over 47 per punt, only 3 were undrafted. So drafting a punter late makes a lot of sense.

Also, Punting may have been our biggest weakness over the past decade, but because of Gould and Hester on ST, it was overlooked.

Going back to 2007 we have never been better than 22nd in punting, finished dead last twice, and 30th or worse 4 times. Our highest punt average was 43.9 (Podlesh 2011). Otherwise, we have been pretty bad: 41.8, 41.2, 41.4, 40.1, 43.9, 42.0, and 40.6. Those numbers were consistently 7-10 yards worse than the best punter in the league. I thought it may have been due to the number of kicks inside 20, but we rarely hit the top 10 in that category and there were always punters with better averages and more kicks inside 20 every year.

This pick may have more impact than we think if he can average 46-47 per kick and give us 5 extra yards every possession.
