scs787
Alright so I'm kinda getting ahead of myself here, but I find looking at the 2015 season very intriguing.....Look at who we already have locked up... QB-Cutler/Fales RB-Forte/Carey WR-Marshall/Jeffery/Wilson TE-Bennett/(Onubun) LT-Bushrod LG-Slauson C- ? RG-Long RT-Mills DE-Allen/Houston/Young DT-Ratliff/Ego/Sutton LB-Bostic/SMC/Greene/(Jones) CB-Jennings/Fuller/Frey SS- Mundy FS- Vereen They have all of that AND about 30M in cap space. Hypothetically speaking if Bostic takes a step forward, SMC proves to be a solid LB, Greene shows the talent I saw in him in college, Vereen takes the starting FS job and runs with it, and the Bears resign DLP to play center, what the hell are they gonna spend that 30M in cap space on! If all goes right we're gonna be set up for yet another interesting offseason next year. Phil is doing great things here.
adam
They have all of that AND about 30M in cap space. The rest of the 53 man roster? Even at league minimums, that adds up. We will more than likely re-sign a few others to extensions and then look to bring in 1-2 new FA's.

I just threw out the starters and some backups at key positions.....Right now they have 47 players signed for next year.

I wanted to make a list of 2015 draft prospects. My list has S, CB, TE, DT, LB, OT, and WR. They were listed in my order of priority, which will change. AZ54
I've been thinking the same….what are our targets going to be next year? Cap space will be used. Expect Jeffrey to sign an extension and locking in Marshall sort of sets a target for that contract. Will we sign De la Puente to a long term contract? I agree with Ashkum that S is likely our top target heading into next years draft but I wouldn't rule out a big spend on a FA safety if one is available. Early in the draft I expect we'll just go best available. It would be great to see our young LBs step up this year and take that off our to-do list. Plus gotta have room for an extension for alshon. Maybe even few others if ppl step up. It's an excellent start for emery. And no one is signed to a deal u simply can't get out of outside of Jay and after yr 3 he can be dumped with no harm. The obvious answer here is that the Bears should sign a big name FA for the secondary. I also wouldn't mind seeing the Bears nab Maurkice Pouncey to make the OL virtually indestructible. More than likely, however, they'll probably resign Briggs to pretty big money for a 2-3 year contract.

If that doesn't happen I think they let Briggs go and throw Bostic there and look for a MLB. Hopefully that's SMC/Greene/Jones. Pouncey would be a nice get, I kinda think DLP is the future center though. I think Vereen/Mundy will be a good combo but I'd love to see Ihenacho hits the market. madlithuanian
Agreed. We really only put big money on Cutler. I love Phil's big picture thinking. AZ54
I see Briggs gone unless we somehow find the fountain of youth... Time for new fresh blood. I don't know if Briggs is a definite to be gone but I think his next deal, if it's with the Bears is a 1-2 year deal. A lot depends on Briggs of course. If he goes Urlacher-style and demands big money then he's likely gone. If he goes Tillman-style and accepts a more realistic deal based on current performance then he'll be here. Knowing he must play with a shoulder harness does not give me confidence in his long term durability.
CrackerDog
I see Briggs gone unless we somehow find the fountain of youth... Time for new fresh blood. I agree but I guess those that think he'll be signed for a few years are thinking that he was drafted three years after Urlacher and so he should last about the same. That would mean he's got another two in him but that counts this season. If he falls into the Urlacher career lifespan, we're talking about one more season and if they offer it to him like they did #54, oh boy, Jason's going to have a hissy! madlithuanian
He's been one of the most vocal wanting loot for many years. Also, seems to not like the new regime. I just don't see it going forward beyond the current contract. If he's resonable sure...but I just don't see it at the moment. And it's not like he's been the paragon of health recently as you mention with the shoulder... madlithuanian
Url out-lasted most careers int he NFL, so Briggs doing it to seems a bit much to expect. Possible, but not probable. I just don't see him remotely coming to the table to want amnything less but big bucks... And really, has he been that stellar w/o Url next to him? Last year was a bit off...but I wasn't that impressed. We cetainly know he's not a leader at minimum. I agree but I guess those that think he'll be signed for a few years are thinking that he was drafted three years after Urlacher and so he should last about the same. Presuming Vereen and Mundy are going to be good is a stretch. They can be better than last year and still not be considered good. Bostics future is in Briggs spot and I see him going there sometime this year and in the future.
Connorbear
I'm fairly confident Briggs is gone after this year. They'll offer him a one-year deal and he will balk. There is a lot of new blood at the position and he really doesn't fit the future of the team. Peace

In fact, I've been on board with a couple trade scenarios others have mentioned on this board.

As many have mentioned WE are not THE BEARS. I think the majority of fans would not have a problem with Briggs moving on if the Bears got a decent value, but the Bears franchise probably likes him more than most of us do.
