Anyone watching Baylor vs MSU

I wish I had thought of this in my first reply, but Art Briles is essentially a bizarro world Lovie Smith. They are the polar opposite in so many ways, but mostly their aversion to one side of the ball. Lovie completely ignores offense, and Briles completely ignores defense. Chicago would be sick to their stomach watching an Art Briles led Bears team giving up 35 points a game just because they have the potential to score 40 every game.

I tend to agree with Jason here. A guy I like who probably gets picked around the same time as Petty is Sean Mannion. Kid did work in a pro style offense.

I liked Sean Mannion in the one game I watched mid-season. He looked like he had the arm strength needed to hit the out routes and was accurate in short to mid-range. Not sure about his long passes and since I only saw one game I don't know about his consistency which scouting reports say is a problem. I'd say he reminds me of Jim Miller.

Kid is awesome. I want him on the Bears!

When I watched Petty thump my Cyclones I wasn't that impressed but I was also depressed. :( So I watched his game against SMU and while they scored a lot of points there is nothing on this video that says to me this is the future Bears QB. I realize that was his first game on the 2014 schedule and most teams don't look sharp in game 1. Ok, go look at the 3rd game on the schedule against mighty Buffalo. I see the same things. QB with little arm strength, inaccurate all over the field except on the short throws. Some of his throws end up in the dirt, some are over the head of his receiver. Quite a few throws off his back foot but we all know announcers only call that out when it's Jay Cutler doing it. Petty's best attribute is a quick release and that works great with all those track stars he is throwing to. When I see him play I see David Fales with one exception…Fales is very accurate on his ball placement and despite limited arm strength can fit the ball into tight windows on short routes. Unless we have Crowton as our OC again I don't want Petty. In any case we already have Fales on the roster if we go back to a college spread offense.

Jim Miller seems like a good comp to make. I've watched him twice this season and I like his poise in the pocket. He lacks any sort of mobility which could hurt him, but he did stand in there and take some hits while still delivering a good ball. I'm not sure he'll be a plug and play QB, but I also kinda don't expect Jay to be moved yet.

If Jay is moved then I think Brett Hundley might be our best hope. If things stay the same as far as draft prospect positioning goes he's kinda in a tough spot. A lot of drafts have him in the 2nd round, but its possible he could go in the back end of the first or at the very top of the 2nd. Again if Jay is gone I'd love to drop as far down as possible to stockpile picks and snag Hundley.

He is playing tonight against another interesting QB prospect, Jake Waters.

I certainly wouldn't take Petty with a high pick. I am completely against taking almost any spread QB very early because I think you are in for a world of hurt getting them developed, etc, unless they are extremely intelligent. I think the biggest thing I look for in a QB is their football IQ and leadership. Obviously they have to have enough arm, but I think it is those other tools that ultimately indicate whether you will succeed at the next level or not.

Hundley is extremely intelligent and very talented. Has most of the IQ, but if we take him, we need a legit QB guru to help him with his footwork, etc. None of that Trestman bullshit. I think the Seahawks OC would be a solid fit for Hundley.
