When Emery came on board, and then when Lovie was fired, we saw some of our best talents leave the organization. Ballard was promoted then decided to leave a year later because he reportedly wanted to work with someone else. Marinelli was offered the DC job and after a week or so he chose to leave town for a lesser job with the Cowboys. Toub had our special teams at the top of the league year after year and when Lovie was gone he was offered a job to stick around. After a week or so he left town to take the same job in another city.

Clearly something with Emery and Trestman made some good coaches and talent evaluators leave town. Now we have rumors of Ballard being our next GM and just as suddenly there are reports from several media outlets that Toub could be a our next HC. It's hard for me to have much of an opinion on any GM candidate unless they are experience because their work is behind the scenes and we only hear reports of their successes (i.e. drafted Tillman).

If Toub ends up our new HC I'm ok with that. He always had discipline and good schemes on his special teams. I think he'd demand the same from an entire roster.

I have read alot of good things about Ballard. My only issue is his experience is from the Bears under JA and Emery. I was hoping to have the new GM be from a different franchise, one like the Ravens, NE, GB. A guy who has seen the way others do it. The Bear way is not working, and I was hoping for a new look and lead.

As for Toub, my only issue is I was hoping for a HC to actually have HCexperience.

At the end of the day, I think anyone will be better than trestman.

I am more concerned with the GM hire. If Ballard is hired I will be excited to see what route he takes this team. A lot of people give this guy high remarks so he must know his shit.

I wanted the guy from the Ravens, DeCosta. I think that's the best run franchise in terms of consistently putting a talented team on the field season after season. They have about 8 players left from their 2012 Superbowl team and they are still back in the playoffs. They do it with a QB who I consider to be on par with Cutler as opposed to organizations that rely on their superstar QBs to make it happen year after year.

Harbaugh's success is the reason I'm intrigued with Toub. Not that they are the same people but ST coaches have to deal with the most players on the roster in general and while Toub may not be a specialist in all areas, as long as he has the right philosphy and knows how to appropriate manage people and his staff and obtain the right level of respect and ensure that top notch talent wants to work with him, than he's the right guy. Those are the skills necessary to succeed as a head coach. Being a guru on one side of the ball is nice, but those other skills are far more key, imo.

I will continue to say that experience under JA is not a bad thing. JA had a good 5 year run here and than struggled once Lovie got more control (but still made some aggressive moves and helped build a team that made it to the superbowl). Oh and he was given a lot of credit for the Tampa Bay team that was a perennial juggernaut too. Angelo's overall career was extremely successful and to be able to learn from him is not the bad thing that many make it out to be.

I'll continue to get ripped for saying it but that is fine.

Clearly my top choice as well, unfortunately, he isn't going to leave his gig for another place. I respect him for it and understand it. He's in a known situation, paid well, and will get to grab the reigns of a franchise where he is comfortable with all of the people (and he has a timeline or is pretty aware of the timeline). To leave that for unfamiliar pastures when you have all of that isn't necessarily a wise choice.

Any guy that gets to the GM position in the NFL does something right, so you are right with JA. My biggest issues with JA may have more to do with Lovie having more control....Who knows but for years everyone screamed that the Bears needed to fix the oline and add weapons on O, they failed to do so. Was it Lovie or JA?????

My take on it is that I wanted someone who has seen or was taught how to do things from a different franchise NE, BAL, GB, SEA

Whatever they are doing its working

I dont think Taub needs to be a guru on either side, thats what the OC and DC are for. Sometimes the HC takes on too much by being involved in one side more than the other.

Take Lovie, he was a defensive minded coach and the offense was neglected. It goes both way, I guess.

Tucker was hired for the DC, most were upset with this hire. If the HC is a guru on one side of the ball(like Trestman) then the other side better have a good Coordinator.

JA made some abysmal picks before Lovie was granted additional say in the draft room, IIRC.

With JA the record was mixed, as it was with Lovie. There were things to get upset about and things to appreciate with each. The overall results weren't good enough for either and so the organization moved on. And they picked two guys who were worse. IMO, we'd have seen a better football team with JA and Lovie still in place the last 2/3 years, respectively. That isn't saying much because I doubt we'd have been serious playoff contenders in either year but at least we wouldn't have been embarrassments.

I agree; Lovie had a lot of the right skills as a HC, however, one skill that he seriously lacked was the ability to spot / hire the right guy on the offensive side of the ball. I think part of this might have been situations he essentially put himself in (whether it was short leashes with certain coordinators / situations he was in because he was viewed as a lame duck, etc). Bottom line, he had a long time and whiffed on a lot of OC's. I also think the reason we consistently saw the offensive side of the ball ignored was because Lovie had significant say in terms of who we drafted / signed, basically to the point where he had final say on roster decisions (despite having a GM on board). That might have ultimately been what did Lovie in because with the right investment in an oline, Jay / Martz might have ended up working out.
