Is Marshall on the way out?

I have heard many mention that there sources state, Marshall wont be brought back next year, that they will have to eat 5.5 million and have no problem with doing that. I think he is a good football player but is too erratic personally that just keeps everything in chaos on a bad team.

Hub Arkush has indicated the lockeroom wasn't happy with Marshall and he can be extremely difficult to deal with. He is all over the place in terms of his attitude, etc. All that said, I don't think any decision has been made on BMarsh and that decision will be made by whomever the next GM and HC are. I would presume it would include speaking directly with Marshall (but also gathering various intel on how he behaved). I do think as incoming HC / GM, you need to set the tone and an easy win (if BMarsh is truly a problem) would be to move Marshall (for a late round pick) or cut him. Reality is, the top teams in the league aren't built at the skill-position, they are built at the lines, QB, and on the defensive side of the ball, imo. Plus, we still have Jeffrey, Bennett and Forte so it isn't as if we have a bunch of turds behind Marshall.

I do really respect Marshall for his work ethic though. But again, I think this lockeroom needs to be cleaned up and messages need to be sent, however, those decisions should be made by the group of people hired these next few weeks.

I'll be surprised and disappointed if they move Marshall. He's one of the few assets we have on this team. And losing your shit over how poorly this team played this year is a POSITIVE in my book.

If there's more behind the scenes I'm unaware of, OK. But if this is about his one tirade, that's bullshit.

See article I posted. No idea what is true vs. what isn't, but I don't find what Hub is saying to be unfathomable. I think part of it also comes down to how will he handle himself when the next coach comes in and truly holds him accountable. I don't know that answer but toxic can be toxic and I think one of the many areas Trestman failed at, was his inability to get rid of toxic players, no matter who they were. If you are going to change a culture to the one you want in the organization, sometimes that means you got to get rid of guys who are talented / better than other options, but the long term gain is worth it.

Dude's been a friggen boy scout for most of his stay with the Bears. I suspect the next HC will want his skills on the team and will be able to manage around BM's personality.

The title of this thread is downright misleading.

I love what Marshall has done for us, but I said trade him a month ago and stand by it. I also said trade Forte. Get what you can for these aging stars and draft a solid foundation for the future. We need speed and youth and this years draft is going to be loaded with RB talent.

I don't give a damn about anything but building an OL and DL so our new coach and GM can have a chance.

I haven't seen anything about it, but I of course would be OK with it. But the whole eatting 5.5 mill? Ya, no. Either trade him and get some picks (I suggested a 2nd and a 5th) or keep em.

I could warm up to this idea if someone were interested in giving us a 2nd rounder for him. But then, probably, only if the new HC and GM thought this was the best move given the offense they planned on running.

Well the "leak" already ruined any leverage in a trade. Who would give up a 4th or higher for a ticking time bomb if the Bears are realeasing him and his contract get terminated?. I don't think Marshall has been bad, but you do have to worry about him.

I'm still not seeing a leak anywhere other than what hub said, and hub didn't say anything about him getting cut.

Regardless, some leverage would remain, as if he's released (not gonna happen) then the whole league can get their hands on him, while in a trade you don't run the risk of losing out to him.

Everything I've heard, it's simply that Hub doesn't like him and wants him gone...

Either way, new group comes in and they could be sly and say, we really like what we have seen from him, blah blah blah. We'll listen to all offers but are happy with him on our team.

The leaks are the rumblings that writers are speculating. I don't think any team will trade more than a 4th for him. The way rookie WRs have produced, plus a trade leaves his contract intact, and no team will want his dead money on the books.

I am sure there are Bears that do not like him, but the team is better with him than without.

B&B keep insisting that the decision has already been made. One of the people at the top (I imagine that would be George?) is sick of his antics and will not tolerate him on the team anymore. So whatever GM/HC comes in will be told to get rid of him and then do whatever they want with Cutler. Hub has pretty much said the same thing.

I don't want to believe them because Bernstein seems to have a personal agenda against Marshall (Like he did something to his family type-anger), so It wouldn't surprise me if whatever he was told via sources was sort of twisted into something he wanted to believe. Still.. It's very possible that he's right.

I personally don't think it's a necessity to get rid of him. We've seen him behave under Lovie Smith. It wasn't until this past year that things got really bad. Maybe he's already burned too many bridges, I'm not in the lockeroom, but perhaps if they bring in a coach that has some balls and doesn't let people walk all over him, they can get Marshall back under control.

I could see a team like Seattle or New England taking a look. Great teams without a true #1. Also, CAR, PHI, or KC as well who are cusp teams without a legit #1. Like others have mentioned, Marshall and Alshon are sort of redundant commodities. Jeffery has actually led the team in receiving the last two years, so the torch has already been passed. With that said, Marshall does bring some competitiveness to the team. That SF game was epic.

I would give this core one year to prove themselves, and if not, dump Cutler, Marshall, and Forte (FA) after 2015. I would also cut/trade SMC, Houston, Allen, Bushrod, Jennings, and Gould after this season (if they are not gone already).

A couple of media figures supposedly know someone in the Bears family that stated they are all done with him, just to much chaos that comes with him. The only reason I put some worth in the rumor, his contact started calling for heads rolling after the Green Bay game. He was ahead of all the fallout that was to become the situation which has occurred now. Personally I agree with money on here that let the new regime decide.

Bernstein is an idiot. He was the one that said the Bears were going to announce a major shift at the press conference about Ted's new role. Never happened. And then when it didn't happen it was all "Behind the scenes it's happening" so we can't confirm in any way.

Whatever, I'll hang in there and see what happens. There could be more to BM's antics than is know publicly. If what's been released is it, however, they better not move him. Not everyone on a football team is going to be an angel 100% of the time. And when he's pissed about losing I'm right there with him.

Here is another article talking about Bears being done with BMarsh. Bottom line, we will know what happens with Marshall by the end of February. To do it right, decision should be made prior to March 1st. Cost to the Bears is relatively minimal prior to that point (if they opted to outright release him). My personal belief is Marshall will be somewhere else. I think one of the first things that will be done is that the Bears are going to clean up the lockeroom and send messages in there. I really hope Kyle Long can establish himself as a leader on the offensive side of the ball (kind of like Kreutz used to). Long reminds me of Kreutz in many ways.

If they do that, I sure as hell hope the Bears can get something for him. 2nd rounder?

I think it all comes down to leverage. I think the best we could hope for is a 3rd rounder, but I'd be thrilled with a 2nd rounder. With a 2nd rounder, I actually think we might end up upgrading the team. My presumption is, if the new group decides his lockeroom issues outweigh his on the field production, it is more realistic we'd see a 3-5th round pick. I have no basis for that, but rarely do we see players traded for high picks. Given our needs, would be great if we could add a 2nd round pick though.

I hope this is not true. I hope the McCaskeys up top let the new staff decide what's best for the team. The guy even when down a ton against the Packers was giving 110%, going all out.

Can a new coaching staff/ GM get BM to tone down the social media arguments and locker room problems?? If there are real locker room problem?

The Bears should at least give the new Staff a chance and say in what happens with BM

The only reason I see getting rid of BM right now would be to get some new draft picks higher in the rounds or a 2nd. He is getting older and probably only has a couple good years left. If you can get some type of worthy compensation for him now I would understand it.

I agree that having Alshon and BM are very similar, but Defenses trying to game plan against them both is difficult.

I don't think the Bears ownership group will force any candidate. I think any roster decision will be made by the GM. I think that is evidenced by the fact that Ballard is even considering this job (since he's turned down jobs where that wouldn't necessarily be the case).
