Guest TerraTor
http://wallstcheatsheet.com/sports/nfl-pro...the-nfc.html/3/ NFC North Chicago Bears All Active Contracts: $120.86 million 2014 Salary Cap Rollover: $1.55 million Dead Money: $105,155 Draft Pool: $5.70 million Total Salary Cap Space: $23.89 million The Bears would have the salary cap space to be extremely aggressive in free agency if they weren’t facing a $16.5 million cap hit for quarterback Jay Cutler. While they still have a good amount of money to spend, they will likely not be able to address every position that needs improvement this offseason. They are in desperate need of help at linebacker with Lance Briggs likely being done in Chicago and long-time Bears great Brian Urlacher retiring a year ago. After that, they need to improve in the secondary and find an every-down pass rusher. The best Receiving corp in the league with a Top5 RB?
scs787
Ugh all 4-5 defensive needs don't need to be taken care of in the draft. 23 million is a big chunk of change, esp when you consider the offense doesn't need much, and even if some of the guys on defense aren't starters, they still provide you with depth. They're in good shape financially. They can't be extremely agressive and add 2 or 3 stars or anything like that, but they can no doubt add 3 or 4 starters in FA and then another 2 or 3 in tye draft. The draft market for QBs absolutely blows. Maybe I consider Hundley if he drops to the 2nd but past that your not finding your QB of the future in this draft. scs787
I meant *and the draft In that case, I don't see finding 4-5 starters with 23M and 2 top 40 picks as much of a problem. Takes me back to the 2013 offseason when the OL pretty much needed a complete overhaul and people didn't think it was possible under the cap we had. They got it done AND added a high priced TE. And that 23M has already taken out the money needed for the draft so it's all going to FAs.
adam
Woo hoo more cap space: NFL notified teams today that it expects this year's salary cap to be between $140 and $143 million, at least $1.5M higher than projected.

AZ54
free agency sucks for QBs and this will go down in history as the worst QB draft . Wrong year to be thinking anything QB. Now there is one upside to this drought of QB talent and that is that it makes Cutler's value much higher. Desperate HC and GMs that need to make something happen will see Cutler as their best option to get something going on offense in 2015. Even Mariota will need a year or two of experience to be ready to play in the pocket. Behind Mariota and Winston there is nothing. In FA there is nothing. Our GM and HC have time on their side so to sit back and wait a year to get their QB is less of an issue especially if the right deal comes along. I think they dont think Cutler will be the QB when we make the run for a SB, in a few years, so they rebuild the roster and leave all options open. Think this will be interesting to see what smart people do to attempt to reach a SB as compared to the two goofs we had the last few years. To be truthful, I was hoping they did there jobs well, facts are they sucked.
