Told by a source that WR Eddie Royal is indeed in Chicago. Bears apparently readying to make their play.

Nice! What hasn't been mentioned here is the fact he's an accomplished punt return man. Thus he fills two needs.

I'm curious as to what kind of $$$ we're talking.

Assuming we sign him, we still need to find a #2 WR.

IMO, we could see AJ/Royal/Wilson as our guys. With Bennett and Forte around, and the Bears looking to run more, Wilson isn't a bad 5th option. Wouldn't be shocked to see a mid round WR though.

Or perhaps they look to add another TE in the mid rounds instead which could make Wilson the 6th option on a team looking to run the ball more.

Perhaps both if they do enough to the defensive side of the ball in FA.

I like Ben Koyack a lot as a guy who has similar run blocking capabilities to Virgil Green, and has some upside as a pass catcher. Nick O'Leary fits that bill too.

If the WF draft plays out the way it does I'd be torn between Ty Washington(WR), Koyack, and O'Leary.

Wilson still has to prove himself, they will bring in a draft pick besides if we sign Royal

Can't really prove yourself without playing time though. They'll add another one, but think it'll be later in the draft.

So were going to bank our 3rd WR spot on his last years performance? He is not going to get everything given to him, for sure will look for more help.

Royal is a #3 slot WR. It would be a mistake to try to do more than that with him.

We need to get away from using Forte so much as a passing option. Get the ball out of Jay's hands.

Maybe we draft a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round and they would battle Wilson for the #2 spot . . . I just don't have much faith in Wilson right now. I couldn't wait for him to get back from his injury and then he was a disappointment.

I would think WR is squarely in play at #7. We got an edge rusher in McPhee. If we can land Knighton you have your NT. You get Cooper at #7, you have Jeffery and Cooper with Royal in the slot and Wilson in 4-receiver sets.

Basing it on his potential.

I think calling him a #3 because he plays the slot is a bit off. I know where you're coming from, but I think he's solid #2 option in the sense of WRs.

I would think WR is squarely in play at #7. We got an edge rusher in McPhee. If we can land Knighton you have your NT. You get Cooper at #7, you have Jeffery and Cooper with Royal in the slot and Wilson in 4-receiver sets.

Do we also add a CB? If not I'd probably go Waynes at 7. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't like Cooper or White though.

Disagree. While I wouldn't completely rule it out, we want Alshon to be the legit #1 and then we add weapons around him. Assuming he continues to be productive, we're going to have to pay big money for him and possibly franchise him.

Fox has indicated he wants to focus on defense and running the ball. You don't want TWO of your best players to be WR's. You can sign guys like Eddie Royal, you can draft a guy in the 2nd round, but a 2nd #1 WR is not a priority.

Fox talked about having a balanced attack, having a stud WR would make anytime better.

Yeah, we really can go BPA. I would be happy with Cooper or White.

Royal was ranked 43rd out of 110 WRs in 2014.

But at what expense? Ideally we draft the next HOF linebacker. It would be good if we had a nose tackle to anchor the line for years to come. Maybe a stud for the secondary.

If we draft a #2 WR at the #7 spot, I don't see any way we keep Alshon. Too much devoted to the position.

With the 7th pick that would be the #1 WR not Jeffery. If all our needs are filled in FA for the most part, they will take the BPA. WR,OT,QB, another pass rusher?

You make like a #2 WR is not a starter. You draft BPA, which gives you the best chance to find that HoFer.

Also, having only BPA to pick could allow us to trade down (CLE) and pick up some extra picks.

In the past, Jeffery has put up #1 numbers, and with BM gone, he appears to be a legit #1. You can draft another WR if all our needs are met, but good lord, there's no way that happens.

If Tim Jennings isn't any damn good, we might need two starting CB's. To go with a need for two quality starting safeties. Even if we sign Antrel Rolle, that ain't exactly a long term fix.

We need 4 linebackers. McFee is a good but not great linebacker who's never played full time before. Do we have any other starting caliber linebackers on the roster?

WR at #7 is a luxury we can't afford. At the #7 spot, there will be a few players who grade out about the same. You take the one that fits your need.

We have so many needs, what ever player is at 7 would be welcome. ON a good team Jeffery is a #2 and hopefully we become that. We have to see how FA shakes out to see which way we go in the first round. I would like to move down and grab some extra picks. With a high pick you take the best player. Would be wise to the the 3rd best OLB after just spending 40 mil for one? or the top WR? (julio Jones type)

Okay, let me put this in perspective. On offense I see us having several players with the potential of being pro-bowlers. Kyle Long, Forte, The Black Unicorn, Alshon. On special teams, Robbie Gould and Pat O'Donnell could both be considered.

Name one defensive player who can make it to the pro-bowl next year . . . MAYBE Kyle Fuller. McFee is being signed to be a good player, not a pro-bowl player. Even if we signed Pot Roast, he's never been a pro-bowler. I don't expect that to change with the Bears.

On defense we have to acquire difference makers. While we are looking at several good free agents, none of them are difference makers.

Yesterday I was told WR Eddie Royal was a done deal, now I'm being told not so fast. Still in Chicago, last I heard, though. #Bears

Hopefully this is just something to do with contract specifics or waiting on a physical. He would be a great addition and a true slot WR threat.
