lemonej
I always thought drafting the BPA meant selecting the highest rated player on your board that you configured at your draft position. If someone unexpected drops to you and you have him rated highest on your board you take him. The team that has ruled the NFC North drafts this way. Drafting Rodgers in round 1 when you have Farve as your QB support that. They keep drafting WRs every year with Driver,Jennings,Jones,Nelson,Cobb and Adams. They also seem to draft CBs every year edge rushers and NTs regardless of how well the starter is established. They build depth and thats what taking the BPA does.I'm a big fan of Alshon Jeffrey but he has only played 1 full season healthy and he will be in a contract year none of the other WRs on the roster stepped up while he and Marshall were out with various injuries. Right now its Royal and Jeffrey that you feel comfortable with behind them its a crap shoot. Wilson's hands seemed a little suspect when he came back from injury. They do need to add a WR to the mix and Im on record wanting Cooper. Personally I'll be satisfied with whatever the pick is.Taking the BPA also helps to create some decent trade on draft day also.

Drafting Rodgers was a bit of an outlier because Farve was in and of retirement around that time. Last year they desperately needed a safety. they got HaHa. They lost James Jones so they went with Adams in the 2nd. But ya, BPA is indeed based on the preception of the GM/Scouts.

Last year everyone was shocked when Emery took Fuller and the idea was to put Jennings at Nickel on 3rd down and multiple WR sets, which seemed odd when he had just signed an extension. Fuller was the better player and filled in well for Tillman. Its still up in the air if he was the better pick than Clinton-Dix. I'm positive that Emery went BPA over an obvious need.
