The game plan

I am trying to get into Paces mind with what his plan is , he is quite secretive with his decisions.

So what we know: I think the draft will be his big day with several trade downs to acquire more picks.

He targeted S,OLB and WR in FA and we made our splash.

We will be signing several low cost FAs but there will be no more expensive FAs. projected acquisitions (Hakeem Nicks/WR-Red Bryant/DE-DT--Tarell Brown/CB-CJ Wilson/DE)

I think, as they evaluate our roster that we have some prospects that can play.(reason for low activity in FA)

As far as the draft:

We trade down for more picks

We target BPA(so many needs)

We add versatile players like Karl Davis,Henry Anderson, Mario Edwards that can play either DE/DT spots.

We add versatile players like Quinten Rollins,Eric Rowe,Josh Shaw that can play either S/CB spots.

We definitely draft a WR and ILB high.

We add a RB.

Overall: We rollover our cap after we evaluate what we have and the players we brought in.

This year is a rebuilding year and the only way we make a Playoff run is if we ended up having better talent on the team that we didnt see last year.

We trade back in the draft to acquire picks. Teams with a need to move up

Philly-they want Mariota

Cleve-they want Mariota

St Louis-with Foles that want a top WR

NO-they bring in Mariota to be Brees replacement in a couple of years.

So with this in mind our draft: (Parker did a good job with this scenario)

1st/7th-we trade back with Cleve and get 12 and 44.(Cleve grabs Mariota)

1st/12th-we trade back with Houston and grab 16 and 51 (Houston moves to grab Devante Parker/WR Johnson replacement)

1st/16th-we draft Andus Peat/OT (BPA)

2nd/39th- we draft Karl Davis/DE-DT

2nd/44th-we draft Nelson Agholor(draft BMs replacement)

2nd/51st- we draft Alex Carter/S-CB ( big physical player that can play either position)

3rd/ we draft Stephone Anthony/ILB ( team captain type and tackle machine)

4th/ we draft David Johnson/RB ( future starter)

5th/ we draft Garret Grayson/QB ( developmental QB) (we start grabbing one every year)

6th/ we draft Max Garcia/OC ( our center of the future with potential to start first year)

We finally have a draft where every player contributes his first year.

That would be a great scenario for picks, especially getting 16, 44, and 51 for 7. That seems borderline unrealistic that Houston would move up 4 slots for a 2nd rounder (that seems more like 3rd round value), but it is just a plan.

Now for the picks, if we had 4 picks in the first 51 and ended up with those 4, I would be disappointed. Just using WF prospect rankings, we would end up with: (2nd OT, 9th DT, 11th best WR, 7th CB). To me, we should have all players in the top 5 or 6 at their positions, not 7th, 9th, and 11th in the 2nd round. With our defense so bad can we afford to draft 2x Offensive players in the first 4 picks, and 5 out of 8? I just don't see it. We have to draft a defensive player at every level (DLine, LB, CB, and S), and then use the last two on offense from: (OLine, WR, QB, or RB)

I think the key to the rebuild will be with the OL and DL. We add a stud at LT and a future OC we have a stud line for several years to build with. Peat-Slauson-Garcia-Long-Bushrod(that could be a strong OL for the next 3 years)

The DL needs a lot of work Davis-Ferguson-Houston could turn into a very good place to start in the next few years.

As far as the drafted players, I was using GBND's big board to valve picks and pretty much took BPA.

True, but I wouldn't say Garza has 3 years. I would love to pick up Wisniewski at Center, then that would be a very strong line. For the DLine, I really don't know what direction they are going in.

The brass is so quiet about stuff , hard to tell what they have on there mind. I dont think Garza will be around after this year, that was the thought with the draft pick Garcia.

Got it, I just don't know how much you can count on a 6th rounder as a starter. We tried Mills late and it didn't work out.

I like the trade down scenerio and if possible, I would try trade a 2nd if we can get and extra 3rd. So we can grab Bryce Petty QB. Here's my take:

1-16. Landon Collins S Ala

2-39 Kevin Johnson CB WF

2-44 Carl Davis DT Iowa

2-51 Hronis Grasu C Ore

3-71 TJ Yeldin RB Ala

4-103 Tyler Lockett WR/KR KSU

5-135 Jake Ryan LB Mich

6- Mycole Pruitt TE SIU

That would be an insane draft. I like 3 defensive players taken first (Collins fills a huge need/CB and DT hit), and still hitting the Oline with a starter, RB, WR/KR, and TE. I really like Ryan too.

Top Safety, #2 C, #3 CB, #9 DT, #6 RB, #12 WR, and the #9 ILB.

I like it....I'd swap Yeldin for a OT prospect though.

I know we need help at Safety but there is little talent in the draft this year. In other words I'm not subscribing to the Lovie/Angelo theory that you must draft a safety every year.

If we don't trade down and grab one early (i.e. Collins), or one of the other mid-round talents, I really don't care that we draft a safety on day 3 just to fill a hole. I prefer to just stick with BPA and grab whatever talent falls to that round that fits our needs. If it happens to be a safety so be it but if not, I can live with another vet FA filling the backup role as a stop gap for 1 year. I don't think the depth on the roster would be any worse and might be better having someone with experience. We'll still have Vereen on the roster so there will still be one young player to develop. I'm sure there will be some other vet backups cut after the draft too.

There are still a few that could help out there. Stevie Brown, played with Rolle and Dashon Goldson played under Fangio.

I agree with your strategy. I think the lack of FA activity speaks to a desire to trade down and get younger, and I could see us trying to get multiple late round picks thrown into early round trade down to help fill out the roster with guys that fit what Fox/Fangio/Gase/Pace like (which is why I threw in an extra 6th & 7th below). I personally would go:

1) Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State - Fits the Fangio mold of big fast CBs. I'm not sure Jennings is long for this team (the 49ers didn't have A CB shorter than 5'10" during Fangio's tenure), and I think Waynes will be there in the middle rounds, like Dennard was last year.

2) Eric Kendricks, LB, UCLA - 49ers had Willis and Bowman. Time for the Bears to get impact players there too.

2) Cameron Erving, C, Florida State - Versatility to step in wherever we are weakest on the line right away, though he might not last this long.

2) Nelson Agholar, WR, USC - Can make an impact inside or outside and return kicks. I really wonder how the new regime feels about Marques Wilson. That might go a long way in figuring out how early WR is addressed.

3) Marcus Hardison, DL, Arizona State - The versatile D-lineman you mentioned. Big enough to play NT in Fangio's scheme, but perfect fit as a 5-technique.

4) Garrett Grayson, QB, Colorado State - I think Jay will be on a short leash this year and the new regime will want someone to develop.

5) Damarious Randall, S, Arizona State - Sub 4.5 speed and great tackling numbers for a safety.

6) Kyle Emanuel, LB, North Dakota St. - Pass-rush terror vs. lower completion, but worth working with and throwing into the OLB mix.

6) Chucky Hunter, DT, TCU - Could be a perfect fit in Fangio's system as a NT.

7) Marcus Murphy, RB, Missouri - Brings speed to RB position and some return/receiver versatility.

You must be into the draft thing, I have spent much time researching the draft and you have thrown out some names I have never seen before. I will look up.

Looking at our pick numbers and by projecting compensatory picks, it looks like we will have the following picks:

1st - #7

2nd - #39

3rd - #71

4th - #106 (3x 3rd round compensatory picks push ours back 3)

5th - #141 (4x 4th round compensatory picks push ours back 4 - from NYJ)

6th - #180 (6x 5th round compensatory picks push ours back 6)

So I agree the most likely trading partners are CLE, NO, and PHI for #7. CLE and NO have the better picks as Philly at #20 would have to basically give up their 1st-5th rounders to move up from 20 to 7, so I don't know how likely that would be. I guess if Mariotta is there at #7, they could move up and give a 1st and 2nd this year and a 1st next year to us, which would nice for us to have 2x firsts next year and 2x 2nds this year (especially if that tanked).

For CLE and NO, both seem to be in play as both need impact players with the loss of Graham and Gordon.

In any scenario, I would at least want to get Shelton, Collins, or Waynes, if we didn't get an Edge Rusher, Williams, White, or Cooper at #7.

Hope we can get that trade with NO. Hard to think they would since they are on a fire sale right now.

They've also quietly added CJ Spiller, Brandon Browner, Danell Ellerbe, and Max Unger to the team through this whole process.

Their GM called this a "Retooling". They already have Brandon Cooks who is virtually the same player as Kenny Stills...And they love Josh Hills at TE supposedly.

I HIGHLY doubt they'd do 7 for 13/31 like some have suggested, but I could see them doing 7 for 13/44.

there not doing both first rounders. I wonder what 75 and 78 (NO has those in 3rd round) and 1 5th would be worth moving back 6 spots?

It'd be 1500(Bears) for 1599 in terms of the trade value chart. I think that would make the most sense from NOLAs perspective. I would do that trade from a Bears standpoint too. The more picks in the top 100 the better.

1.13- Danny Shelton DL

2.39- Kevin Johnson CB

3.71- Corey Robinson OT

3.75- Justin Hardy WR

3.78- Gerod Holliman FS

4.103- Henry Anderson DL

5.134- Clive Walford TE

5.146- Jake Ryan ILB

6.167- Joey Mbu DL

I'm figuring we'll sign Foster and have a feeling we'll get Wisnewski as well so that's why I waited on ILB and passed on center. I'm not a believer in drafting project QBs either.

I don't like Corey Robinson with the high 3rd...maybe with a 5th. He is big and a road grader but there will be better talent, possible Ty Sambrilo if they are looking OT. Grasu at C may even make it to the top of rd 3. Oline usually surprises you how highly regarded guys drop. Every draft im throwing up names i like and they fall.

I debated on a few different OTs in the 3rd including Ty. I took Robinson because I think we look to run the ball more and having a guy like Robinson on the right side with Long would be something special IMO.

I am now seeing where he ranks lower on a lot of big boards though. I'm certainly iffy on the pick, but with all those picks I'd like to see the best OT available in the 3rd or 4th. Domeone like Ali Marpet, Ty Sambrilo, Jeremiah Poutasi, Donovan Smith, Robinson, or perhaps the best option if he makes it there and the medicals look good Cedric Ogbuehi.
