Alaskan Grizzly
Funny statement there because anyone who has Rosenhaus as his agent always (reportedly) "has quite a few teams looking at him." And reading up on the backstory to Mathis leaving Philly didn't sound like it was Mathis wanting to leave. As it was more a conflict between Rosenhaus and Kelly. In fact this all came about shortly after Kelly was given the additional duties of personnel VP...or whatever he added on.
jason
I think you could really only quantify it as truly "worthless pieces or nuggets of data" if it were untrue. Or came from Fox News. In answering your second question, maybe the answer is you ask...nee...demand your QB do less decision making (at least in this instance) and follow the script. Based on the 'nuggets' of data I found, he appears to actually do better if he DOESN'T hold onto the ball. You must not work in the data world. Just because a stat is compiled and true doesn't mean the desired or proposed conclusion is accurate. Correlation and causation are not necessarily linked. We do agree, however, with one thing. If the QB continually makes mistakes, something must be done. I believe that is accomplished by either: A ) Getting a new QB - Not feasible B ) Ensure Cutler sticks to the offense, something that aided in McCown looking so good - Unlikely given Cutler's past C ) Making the OL good enough for Cutler to be comfortable and find open WRs - Best, most feasible answer, which has the added benefit of improving the running game as well Hence, it makes sense to go after Mathis. Data is only as good as the intended point of its collection. If you simply don't agree with it then yes it is incorrect... In your eyes. But if I favor it then it's correct. It's perception... That's all. If you had some solid undeniable truth that what you say is true about Cutler being able to excel behind a "solid" Oline, then I'm all ready to see it. I would be willing to barter that you could put all your "1st round" all pro starting line in front of Cutler and somehow, someway hell screw up. Unless he pulls a Tony Romo ala 2014 and is asked to hand the ball off way more than pass... Then maybe...just maybe there's a chance. Which concerns me because I don't think we'll see Whites full potential, or probably AJs either, because of it.

Those stats are overly simplified nuggets extracted from minor, simple details in a very complex game involving many moving parts and strategies. I could provide ten reasons that legitimately question each of those stats, and you could come up with ten more. Hate Cutler all you want. scs787
Kinda funny PFF was brought up in a thread about Mathis. Esp. When the guy who brought PFF up is against his signing. In 2013 Mathis was PFFs top rated OG, and had the 7th highest rating overall. Last year he was only behind Marshall Yanda as far as OGs. Yes, he's 33 and yes he's gonna want a pretty penny (rightfully so), but if Long plays OT at a high level in camp then this signing is a no brainier to me. The money is there. No matter what you think of Cutler, even if he stinks it up with an elite OL in front of him, it still would be nice to have this guy on your roster come 2016 should Cutler be gone. Looks like he only managed to play 9 games last season. Why is that? Interestingly enough of his 12 years he's only managed 2 complete seasons (starting 16 games 2012 and 2013). And 2 more where he started 15. So of his whole career he hasn't started a full season for 50% of his career. Perhaps that's why he's still sitting around waiting for a contract? Wants too much money AND he's 33 AND he was hurt last year AND may have consistency issues?

So the last 2 years he ranked 1st then 2nd in the league. He absolutely should be asking for big time money. I can't really answer why he didn't play much up until the last 2 years, all I know is the last 2 years he's been elite, and that's why I want him on my team. And, besides, for the Cutler-haters it would serve as the ultimate nail in Cutler's coffin if he were to fail behind a good/great OL. I meant how was he rated despite only playing 9 games? What the heck are the rest of the OGs doing in the league? It appears he's trying for a money grab knowing he's very near the end of his career. Too rich for us. If they wanted to give him a $1-3 million no guarantee deal - maybe.
Alaskan Grizzly
Just want to say I am very glad the Bears passed on this guy. After seeing him get blown up in just about every play last night and allowing one of the 2-3 sacks of Payton last night...no thanks!!! I think the mold were in is youth, almost all choices of late have been for younger guys. One game does not make a season. Payton sucked his first game and looked good his second. Mathis would upgrade our line, but it just wont happen. Were now about the future and I think most choices will look in that direction. We have that guy we picked up from Tampa that will in the guard position as soon as he is ready. Ducasse sucks, and the new guy will be better. He small steps at this point.
