I knew something was up the moment camp started. Shin splints do not take this long to heal. The Bears did a terrible job of handling this, too, btw. Day to day my ass. Bears aren't going anywhere this year, so if the rod will help keep this from flaring up in the future it would make sense to get it out of the way now. I was/am all aboard the bandwagon, hope he rebounds with a fury, but I just had a bad feeling. I obviously didn't predict this, but wish we didn't trade away a pro-bowler for the uncertainty of a rookie (who ends up with a leg fracture). I will take Goldman/White over Danny Shelton DT and a Second RD WR though since BM had to go. Unfortunately White injured the tibia, which wasn't known. Just pure bad luck. In good news, it finally sounds like former first rounder Shea McClellin is shining. Silver lining found for me for the moment. I know he has drawn a lot of hate, but it is possible he found a place to excel his skills. Also, Adrian Amos moves into starting FS. Vereen couldn't hold down the spot. He needed to hit on almost all of these early picks for consecutive years to get the Bears back to playoff contention. Him being out for the year also sets the team back another year in the rebuilding process, which is not fun to think about. So Dante Fowler was a bad pick with a torn ACL? You can't knock Pace for this unless he was aware of these issues and still drafted White there. I'm not arguing whether he should have been the pick, I'm simply stating a fact that him being out for the year IS indeed a bad start for the new GM of the Bears. See my post above. I think the chances of him being a bust is definitely a lot higher now, though. He wasn't the most polished player coming out of the draft either. AZ54 Posted August 15, 2015 Report Share Posted August 15, 2015 We'll never get details but this might be a spiral fracture as those take a lot longer to heal, especially with the stresses of playing a position like WR. I don't think it's the end of the road for White as this clearly was never a displaced fracture (i.e. fully broken) it should heal naturally with time. Inserting a plate or rod to stabilize it should improve the long term recovery prognosis. Someone said it was handled poorly by the Bears. How? Just because they don't include us on the details of the injury doesn't mean they gave him poor treatment. Unless you are advocating they should have done the surgery 6 weeks ago but that would have definitely put him on a longer recovery time frame. The team clearly wanted to give it a chance to heal on it's own in 6 weeks and hoped he'd be ready for the regular season. Then they slowly ramped up his physical activities to allow the muscles to rebuild and strengthen around the lower leg. It's just bad luck for this to happen but I don't put this in the same category as a GM missing on Jadeveon Clowney's bad knee that needed micro fracture surgery. Like when they drafted former 1st round OLmen Gabe Carimi and Chris Williams and we all learned Williams had a history of back problems...after he couldn't start his rookie season. Anyhow I don't fault Pace for this. Just real unfortunate. If history repeats itself or the rest of this years rookie class goes bad then maybe I'll have more doubt. WR's have a shorter career than QB's and a lot hit their peak and only stay at it for a few years. I would have rather waited, instead of getting a WR that my have 3-4 good years left, when the Bears finally get a good QB and it will matter.
