Bears vs Colts

We need a RT.. Mills and Leno both suck. They should just move Long to tackle and be done with it. He's more valuable there than at guard.

Good pressure on the quarterback by the defense early. Offense needs to quit shooting themselves in the foot with penalties.

Decent showing so far. Let's see how the 2nd quarter goes.

Maybe they could look at using Amos at CB and Fuller at Safety?

Yeah, that's a possibility. I like Amos at safety, too, though.

I want to give it a year to digest. If Fuller continues to get abused, then it's something the coaching staff has to think about. It's also possible he's just a #2 corner and not a #1.

I am not sure they will try it. Hub Arkush has been pushing this idea for a while. I think he will just turn out a bust in general. He had an amazing start of his career after peanut got hurt but it has been crap since. If I remember right he was the lowest rated CB on PFF, I don't go by their stats normally, but last says a lot.

So you're giving credence to Terra's disgust with the pick? ?

I still think it's a bit early to think he's a bust, maybe but not certainly. Could be many reasons he's lagging right now that we're not aware of. I'm sure Fangio and Fox are taking copious notes.

Just stirring the pot. I didn't like the pick either. It was bad position-wise when considering that draft, and everyone knew it then as well as now. We needed FS and DT more, and the FS market disappeared after our pick. It would have made more sense to go FS then CB/DT.

Dan Durkin tweeted out this morning that after watching the play over again, Amos should have been in the vicinity to help on coverage, but Fuller could have played the route tighter.

Yeah, I just am always getting used to seeing Fuller giving up 5-10 yards of space everytime a receiver catches a pass in his area. At some point, he needs to be able to put up some resistance. You can't give these receivers so much space to work with.. especially when you're not the fastest guy in the world either. If he doesn't show up this year, it's going to be a rough ride for our secondary. Some of the experts talk about our lack of depth on the DL, but the back end of our defense is in worse shape.

Also starting to think Kyle Fuller might suck. Responsible for 60 yards in one play on that last TD drive. He's been getting roasted since week 6 of last year. Another gem by Phil Emery..

I think Devon McCourty (Pats) was an all pro his first or second year in the league at CB then sucked...the Pats moved him to safety and he is one of the best safeties in the league. I would love for the Bears to move Fuller to safety...he has good ball skills that would shine at safety IMO

Couple more thoughts on the game:

- Will Sutton looks really good in a 3-4. Never thought I'd say that, but he has been causing havoc in the opposing team's backfield this pre-season so far. Him and Eddie Goldman both have been exceptionally quick off the snap. I've been really impressed with those two.

- Sam Acho has no business playing with the 2nd or 3rd team defense. That man has done enough to earn snaps with the 1st team. He has a very good combination of speed and power, and has shown a knack to cause turnovers in the first two pre-season games. Him being out there also gives the Bears more speed on the perimeter for passing downs. I was surprised when Jared Allen was listed as the starter ahead of him, given that it had been reported most of the off-season that he had been working with the 1's.

- We have really good RB depth. I have been very surprised as to how good Jaquizz Rodgers has looked thus far running primarily with the 2's in this offense. He and Kadeem Carey have flashed some quickness and agility running between the tackles. They've also shown the ability to move the pile and fall forward once they break into the 2nd level of the defense. I really hope the Bears decide to keep both of them. I think Rodgers is a lock, along with Langford and Forte, but Carey is too talented to let walk away.

- We're going to have problems at LT/RT this year. Bushrod is getting older. Mills and Ola have both proven to be useless at RT. Our best lineman is being wasted at guard. When will they move him to tackle? Bushrod played better than he did against Miami last week, but he's still a guy that you can see getting beat often against the speedier DE's.

- McLellin and Christian Jones need some work. The talk in camp so far has been about how well McLellin has played moving to ILB in this 3-4 defense, but these first two pre-season games have shown anything but that. He caught a break yesterday leaving way too much space for TY Hilton to be able to catch a slant route that would have surely gone for big yards. Luckily it was dropped. He had multiple breakdowns last week in pass defense as well. Christian Jones doesn't look comfortable in pass coverage either, and pretty much just looks like a guy out there. Hasn't flashed at all yet, but I suppose that could be expected, given that he is still learning how to play in the NFL, and at a new position.

Sidenote-- It was good to see Pernell McPhee get in on the action yesterday. He flashed his pass rushing skills in those first two defensive series.

That was a deep route. Other considerations is the time to get deep, where was the pass rush and where was the help over the top. Those plays happen with a good wr/qb especially with TYs speed.

My draft considerations right now have CB and Safties high. Not saying with our first pick but top 3-4 rounds we need to address. I'd really like an OLT round 1.

agree with all your points, except Bushrod being bad, he is a average LT, somewhere in the middle of the NFL. We have our future LT playing RG. To late to do that this year. But Bushrod would look better as a RT than on the left.

Great to see Ego, Will, and Eddie making plays. Might have to give PE, some credit. Missed C Washington as I thought he was doing good things too. He did not dress. Our d line may be solid for years.

Another position deep with talent. I like all of our depth Houston, Young, Bass, and Acho to go with McPhee and Allen. And to think many, including me wanted a Vic Beasley, Bud Dupree, Randy Gregory during pre draft thoughts.

Going to be tough decisions made here. I'd like to hold onto them all. I'd also like to see Forte finish his career here after this season. Langford looks the part as a featured back when his time comes. Rodgers was a nice addition and he will be a good change of pace. Carey/Perry would be nice to keep both. Carey playing ST has to be outstanding in coverage if he wants to survive.

- We're going to have problems at LT/RT this year. Bushrod is getting older. Mills and Ola have both proven to be useless at RT. Our best lineman is being wasted at guard. Weakest spot on the team is RT. Too bad they don't move Long out and elevate Grasu to G. I see OT as a high priority come draft.

I thought they both did good on run plays. Unfortunately Bostic and Foster looked worse. In coverage, I see the ILB as a liability. Two more weeks to work on improvement, McClellin will rack up #s if you need a LB in FF.

Sidenote-- It was good to see Pernell McPhee get in on the action yesterday. He flashed his pass rushing skills in those first two defensive series.

Great game points Bears4ever34. I think even Jay showed improvement.

I don't know how any Bears fan could watch this game against Indy and not be encouraged. There are definite areas where improvement is needed but at least, unlike last year, they looked professional. Much better pass rush and special teams. Leno was BAD and our secondary needs work. RB looks deep and Bennett is still going to be a top TE. A balanced attack will keep opposing D's honest which will help our suspect OL and Jay. Better pressure on the opposing QB will help our secondary. I still say this is a borderline 500 team due to our brutal schedule but a W or 2 worse or better wouldn't surprise me either.

We'll know more next week. I do wish we had some healthy WR's on this team...

Grasu's lack of strength right now is glaring - he gets consistently pushed back. I don't see how anyone can see him as a starter this year unless there's an injury. I also haven't been real impressed with the starting ILB play. Mason Foster is outplaying both Jones and McClellin from what I've seen.

Foster should be a starter.

Acho should be a starter.

Cutler looks really good ( DID Y'ALL SEE HIM ROLL OUT?!?!)

RBs are real deep, which is why we really didn't need to draft Langford.

Need RT help pretty badly. By the time we get a new one, we will probably need a LT. And so on. Hopefully Mills turns it around and doesn't destroy the offense, or Cutler.
