Alaskan Grizzly
Bears cutting Jennings...... Kind of surprised He's kinda fallen off since signing that new deal. Can't say we didn't see it coming.
Pixote
No longer a rumor NFL.com Article on Jennings being released.

adam
I am kind of surprised because there is almost no cap savings and we are still on the hook for over $4 million this year.
scs787
Somewhat surprised by this. I guess they weren't pleased with how he's holding up in man. I thought with how aggressive he is he would be well suited for man, but then again he is like 3 feet tall so I shouldn't be shocked. Gonna be interesting to see how the CB position plays out. I like what I've seen from Mitchell, and at one point predraft he was viewed as a 2-3 round pick if I remember correctly. I've touted Ball as a guy who can be pretty good if he stays healthy.....hopefully one of those 2 guys step up and can be a long term answer. Just read that there is offset language in his contract. IF he signs with someone else the Bears will see some type of cap relief.

I agree with the surprise as he was a probowl CB two years ago and was injured last season. I figured he could return to something close to two years ago. I did see somewhere that Pace or Fox said that they wanted to go younger as one of the reasons for the cutting him.
DABEARSDABOMB
I presume this is more of a...we need to figure out who we have and lets play as many young players as we can. Would have been nicer if I thought we had some intriguing options, but we really don't. That said, obviously this is going to be a painful season so rip the bandaid and try to evaluate as many guys who might have a future as possible. BearFan2000
I think we all expected this year to be a potentially painful year to watch. New FO and Coaching staff were handed a pile of crap to work with. Their job now is to sift through the rubble and look for what's salvageable, and start building from there. What I'm looking for this year is to see progress over the course of the year and us develop and find players that can be part of the teams future. I have a feeling this coming offseason will involve a decant amount of roster moves to unload guys who don't have a future here. It's going to be a year long evaluation of the team as a whole. I don't even want to predict a record or have a record in mind of what I want them to achieve. Gotta start the rebuild somewhere.

I could have told you that when he signed....One or two years was all they were ever going to get out of him....maybe a 3rd.......Who knows maybe the OLB position will prolong his career. I think we all knew he only had 1 to 2 years in him. I think we all wished we paid about 60-70% of what we did when we signed him but it's done and he'll be around this season regardless. He hasn't shown any burst this preseason to get around the edge so I think all we'll see out of him is likely bull rushes or some attempts to cut back inside after a short rush upfield. Here's to hoping Willie Young returns to form by mid-season. Forget about OLB for a bit, Willie was more effective and more cost-effective as a 3rd down pass rush specialist last year and if can get back to that he'll be worth keeping next year as well. I thought Allen had some burst against Indy. I agree with you on paying him too much, its a common theme when it came to Emery.....Paid Cutler too much, Allen too much, Jennings (play went down quick) too much and Houston too much (injury didn't help but didn't really see anything from him before the injury) Emery got a steal with Willie Young tho!
