Trade deadline

Forte is better than average, but given him 4 year contract is stupid. When were good in a couple of years he will be falling off the edge. We need to inject youth on this team, not hang on to old memories. Now it your talking about a 3 year 10mil, that wont break us and he still has a couple of years before he's done.

Four year contract. Not four year guaranteed. He can always be released. Front-load it, and there you have it. Easy.

For what it's worth, I'd scrap the entire idea and happily welcome in Langford as the #1 if somehow the Bears could figure out a way to make this trade happen.

Seen that this morning. It would require a first round pick though to get Thomas imo.

Making a deal for either player is very tempting. I doubt we go after them since we're more likely to highly value our draft picks than a team that is better established.

Thomas and Mack are signed through the 2018 season so you'd get 3 years out of them on their current deals. Not sure I like the idea of paying Mack $8mil/yr but Thomas at $10mil/yr is far better than Bushrod at $8mil/yr.

I don't think so, the highest they would get in a comp pick is a late 3rd, so an early 3rd (since we are almost assured of a top 10 pick) might be enough.

In regards to our guys, you have to figure after a 2-5 start, we are going to try and move some of the high salary guys (Bushrod, Forte, Houston, Young, and possibly Bennett).

If that is all it took for a probowl caliber LT, do it. I just do not see that as the case. He is signed through 2018..I think.. and I believe the guaranteed money is done. They are not worried about that comp pick since he has years left. Mack I would think could be had for a 3rd. Thomas will at the very least take a high 2nd.

Trade market for older players must suck.

9ers got 2 6th round picks while also giving up a 7th round pick for Vernon Davis.

Deal was with the Broncos so that swap of 6 and 7th round picks is probably only gonna be a few slots since the Broncos are gonna be at the bottom of the 6th and the 9ers are gonna be towards the top of the 7th.

So essentially the 49ers got a 6th round pick 2 years from now and moved up 10 slots tops at the end of the draft for Vernon Davis.

And Davis just found huge value as a fantasy player again. Glad I picked him up as insurance now

I wouldn't say huge, but his value has definitely increased since getting traded. Manning is all about timing and Davis will be learning a completely new system, so I expect it will take a few weeks.

Today's Bear rumore are Lamar Houston and Willie Young have both asked to be traded. Neither like there role here apparentl. I can still see Young as a possibility, but no one will touch Houston's contract.

LOL, neither like sitting on the bench. I love the fact these coaches only care about one thing: Who is the best player. Your contract or draft status mean nothing. Look at Alan Ball collecting $3mil on the bench as well. Now I don't like spending that kind of money on guys sitting on the bench but the message has been sent. Then there is the future. At this point those players know sitting on the bench is not helping them get a good contract next year. They also know we're not likely to pay Houston almost as much as McPhee next year. We'll likely eat the $3mil cap hit to free up $4mil in space.

We saw a huge overhaul of the defense last offseason and we're going to see another one this offseason. Except this time around we have something like $60mil to spend and if we cut players like Young, Houston, Bushrod, and potentially Antrel Rolle we'll see over $70mil. I know a couple big chunks of that will go to Long and Jeffrey but we're going shopping this spring. We'll probably look to bring back some of our own FA like Montgomery and Porter.

My favorite FA target: Muhammed Wilkerson. Jets don't have much cap space and they just drafted Leonard Williams. Can't see them giving him the franchise tag.

Wilkerson would be fantastic. Ton of marquee names out there. Gotta land one of em.

I would be happy with Wilkerson. Von Miller and CB Josh Norman are two other FAs I would welcome. Pass rush and coverage are two glaring weaknesses that will need to be addressed.
