jason
BRING BACK LOVIE!!! Well, at least he always had good ST's and D. You're right, this group of coaches is excellent except for this one particular area. Not sure why they can't see what we all do. I'd fire the ST coach too. LOL. You mean bring back Toub. (Edited because I twisted the names in my head)

One defense of special teams unit is, with a thin roster, it means our ST unit is even thinner. That said, of all the coaches Fox brought in, Rodgers was the one I was most dissapointed in. jason
FINALLY. The guy who replaced him doesn't look like a world-beater, and I don't like the fact that he takes it out of the EZ when 7 yards deep, but he looks to have better vision on the first two returns. adam
Interestingly, we cut Weems and he now has over 600 return yards for ATL with multiple punt and kick returns of over 40 yards.

Our special teams are always being raided because they are going into starting positions. We have no second string, only possible starters to be developed. This will get better when we have more starters slotted, and develop more depth.

But in the meantime, maybe the kick returner can be someone other than a slow guy with bad decision-making skills, iffy hands, zero vision, and average speed. There are plenty of other guys who are available who can catch the ball and provide a bolt of lightning with the possibility of an actual return. DABEARSDABOMB
He's been a pretty valuable weapon filling in for Royal lately. That one first down he got where a linebacker was right on him against the Packers was impressive (he also made some tough catches). I read where all of his catches this year have gone for first downs. Will be nice when we get Royal back and can leverage Mariani as another weapon. Nice that Thompson is looking like a viable return option on kicks.

Yeah, I said somewhere else that he seems to understand route-running and can catch the ball. He could be a surprise Wes Welker type of player for the Bears. Good option as a #5 WR after Jeffery, White, Royal, and Wilson. But he has no business returning any kick whatsoever.

On punts he hasn't been as brutal (from a return standpoint), however, his fumbling issues have happened their. I do agree though whatever burst / explosiveness he once had (prior to his injury) seems to be gone.
jason
This thread needs to be brought to top until it happens. He sucked ass again today. Bad decisions, poor vision, no speed. He's horrible. And now, apparently, he's gutless. That one where he just stepped out of bounds was pathetic. He should have immediately darted to the wide side to search for yards and blocks. With our WR depth, I like him in the slot. Poor mans Wes Welker. But on returns, maybe time to try Thompson on punts.

That's basically what I would like. But the more they use him for returns, the less value I see in him.
