That's Cleveland and likely Dallas drafting a QB. Toss in the 49ers too. Jerry Jones may have his faults but he knows to win you must have a top QB. He's drafting 4th and won't likely get back that high soon. Consider the long term success of franchises like Green Bay (Favre to Rodgers) and Indy (Manning to Luck) and it's about that continuity at the QB spot. Goff and Lynch are not in the same category as Luck but they'll go early anyway and I think one of them ends up a Cowboy.

I think Manziel honestly becomes a Cowboy, and that leaves only Cleveland and SF as potential QB destinations.

Just wondering if there's anyone here, after Jay's subpar day yesterday, VERY interested in going QB in the first round. I know it depends on who is available to some but would like to know your thoughts.

I think Jay had a nice season and the bad game yesterday wasn't on him. I'd assume the Bears will use the pick on a legit OT who can help keep the d linemen off his back. Could obviously pick D players in this slot as well.

A couple thoughts in fact. First a few questions. If Gase goes how effective can Cutler remain? As Lemon pointed out a few weeks ago, Cutler has become a pretty good game manager. Which would be fine if we were looking at transitioning eventually to a new franchise QB. Secondly; how long does Jay have? He'll be on his 11th(?) season next year so we need to start thinking future.

That being said no probably not 1st round. There are a lot of other concerns that should be addressed. Besides that I'm not hearing a lot about the QB prospects this year. Not enough to warrant a first round. What does Fales have to offer? They kept him around for some reason and when he did play he didn't look too shabby.

The 'Mariotta for Cutler' trade ship has passed so that's not an option?

I am a proponent of drafting another QB, but I see no one in this draft worthy of a #1 pick. If I'm taking a QB, I'll go with someone like Hackenberg later on in the draft. I don't think their is a wide gap between him and the 1st round QB's (said another way, I think all of them are most likely backups to mediocre starters, but maybe they take significant steps forward and become more). I actually think Hackenberg has far more upside.

Yeah, no thanks in the first. I'd start looking in the 3rd. Bears seem close to contention next year if they can have a good off-season. Taking Connor Cook (Lynch and Goff are probably gone) at 11 just wouldn't help. Like DB said, there's not a big drop off between Cook and a guy like Hackenberg. If he's there in the 3rd I would consider it.

Hoping the draft plays out like this latest CBS mock.

Jack is on top of my draft board in terms of talent and need. Jack falling to 11 would be huge.

Absolutely, unequivocally, 100% hell no. No. Horrible, horrible idea. The Bears need way too many positions. They need at least 2 on the OL, one or two on the DL, two or three LBs, probably a WR, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Jaxk>>Ragland IMO. ILB is paper thin in the draft, so I prefer they go there round 1.

Jaylon Smith's injury definately hurt our spot as it dropped him out of the top 25 if not the first RD. I would not be opposed to drafting a 5T round 1 and taking either Smith/Wright RD2

1-Buckner DL

2-Smith/Wright LB

3-Sebastian Teviolta OG

4-Miles Killebrew SS

Or

1-M Jack/R Ragland LB

2-Jarron Reed/Shawn Oakman DL

I like Scooby, but I'm not so sure he's a fit. I still remember reading about how Fangio had both his ILBs drop into coverage more than any other ILBs in the NFL. We've seen that a lot this year as well. I see Scooby as strictly a downhill type guy who would struggle in coverage, and we'd see the same holes in the middle of the field.

I doubt Smith makes it out of the 1st round to be honest. Gurley tore his ACL and still went 10th overall. His stock will take a hit, but I would be shocked if he made it down to the lower part of the draft if a team like the Broncos or some team that doesn't really need an immediate impact guy would take a shot and sit him for a while. He's a special talent.

While it might be overreaction, it's hard for me to see Pace taking Jack or a Smith, guys who will be coming off injuries, after enduring a season where his first pick was injured all year. I'm in the Ragland camp, though if prefer to trade down to get him.

Given the disastrous history the Browns have had at QB and top draft picks recently, I really wonder if they might give us a decent package for Cutler.

They're both special players, they really shouldn't be scared off by past problems. Jack in particular would be a mistake to pass on IMO. Here's a guy who lined up man to man with Nelson Aghular, who was one of the best college WRs last year, every snap and held him to 3 catches. He's a linebacker with corner skills, and his instincts are phenomenal. His read and react skills are out of this world.

Unless they signed 2 ILBs, if Jack was there and the Bears passed, I would be passed.

That is true. Gurleys happened in mid Nov and he missed two games. I would think Smith will miss 4-5, so still not bad. Gurley was also a very raw talent. Smith is worthy, but I don't think he would be considered a once in every 10 or so year player. That is where I see Smith dropping down to, 25ish and as you said a team that can wait 5 games. He will probably end up in GB, NE, or Den.

Wright is ok in pass coverage, his speed is his limitation. He is an exceptional pass rusher though. It would depend on what they do round 1, so I would not be objected to taking him rd 2 if he is there. Fangio adapts his D to his personal, so I would think he can adapt with Wright.

I do like my option 2 better. Jack who would be a flying firecracker or Ragland who would be a brickhouse and then take a 5T round 2.

Another thing that scares me about Scooby is here's a guy who put up ridiculous numbers and yet I keep reading that scouts aren't sold on him. Kind of reminds me of the whole Barrett Jones thing a couple years ago where Jones was one of the must decorated college linemen ever and scouts were calling him a 4th rounder. And in neither case was it because of injury.

I just don't think he's a fit.

I have looked for the comment comparing Cutler to a GAME MANAGER but cant find it. Please explain how you see Cutler as a Game Manager comparable to Kyle Orton during his time with the Bears.

I finally took a little time to watch youtube highlights on Myles Jack and Reggie Ragland. I am sold on Ragland. The difference that convinced me is Ragland was meeting the ball carrier head on more times and Jack was chasing them from behind. Part of that had to do with Jack playing OLB, but the difference in quality is noticed.

Myles Jack is a raw talent with un-teachable athletic skills, so he has things going for him also. If the Bears want to add a LB with incredible speed and coverage ability, Jack has that, but lacks instincts. Ragland has the instincts, knows angles that make up for the speed difference, and can still drop into coverage.

Jacks instincts are incredible in my opinion. Much better than Raglands. I remember reading an article comparing the 2, and the writer, believe it was Greg Gabriel of CBS, actually questioned Raglands instincts while calling Jacks top notch.

Maybe it was the videos I watched. What I seen from Jack was alot of what I see in Shea McClellin. In the plays, but arm tackles. Raglands videos, he is body tackling and in the right place.

Like I said, it could be because Jack played more OLB and the highlights were catching the back on the edge. Ragland played inside and was stepping into the inside gaps hitting the back head on. Ragland looks more the part to me. Not saying I do not like Jack, I see Ragland more of an NFL ILB.

Jacks is fantastic. I'd love him on the Bears, although I do have concerns over his injury. In fact, I'd be exstatic if we went Jacks / Smith in round 1 and 2. Address a huge weakness and than focus on the line and other parts of the team in FA (say Eric Berry, an olineman, and a pass rusher)

Im obviously more in favor of Ragland since I think the Bears need a monster in the middle, a thumper, but if somehow the Bears took Jack in round one and Smith fell to two...holy shit that would be scary.

Assuming they play...durability concerns are problematic for us since it has bitten Chicago more than once with high picks. We need high floor guys more than high ceiling.

Jack hasn't played much LB inside so at the moment he will need time to learn the position but he has the strength and quickness to get off blocks from lineman. There is no doubt it will be a learning curve for him but his upside on coverage is better than either of the other two 1st Rd LBs. If all 3 LBs are available when we pick, and if we pick one, it will be interesting to see who we go with because that will let us know which trait the coaches viewed as more valuable at this time.
