Com Att % Yards Y/per TD INT Rating Yards Per

211 334 63.2 2,510 7.52 14 6 92.5 251

If he continues at this rate

% = 63.2

Yards = 3,765

TD's = 20

INT = 9

Rating= 92.5

I think that would be a great year for Cutler. 5 games left 3 home games against some of the lower ranked teams ie SF, Was, Det, Tam and MN are away. Hope Cutler at least keeps up the same level play but would love to see him hit a hot streak to finish off the season strong.

Most of his rankings are around the 15 range, not top 10 stats. I think for being in a new system 15 is pretty good. He has his lowest INT % of his career, which is a good starting point to build upon.

Hope this post does not jinx Cutler!!!!!

Alaska, I would like to hear your thoughts on Cutler after 11 games.

Like I have said, I am impressed so far this year with Cutler...first year in a new system, praise from Fox and that seems hard to come by, and he obviously makes a huge difference.

If he can keep progressing, I can see him being a top 10 QB...wouldn't that be something? We would get what we paid for and maybe even a bargain in the next few years. I would be happy to eat crow to see that.

It doesn't hurt that there are 24 QB's in the NFL that have been sacked more than Cutler too. I think that has something to do with Gase's offense and an overall improvement in our line play.

With the exception of Brady, no QB has had to overcome more this year.

excellent point. Cutler has been without several weapons on offense this year. Could you imagine what he would have done with a healthy Alshon and White

Silver lining in that was we got to see what the backups could do.

DING DING DING!!! It doesn't take a genius to see this. Too bad our previous regime didn't.

Comfortable Cutler = Better Cutler

Rushed and beat up Cutler = Bad Mechanics/Decisions Cutler

Fix the OL, and Cutler improves, the runners improve, the offense improves. Shocker. There is a reason my signature line says what it does.

How exactly has the line improved this year? It's a product of the conservative offense that the Bears have been using and the production has been poor. They are 20th in points/game and 24th in yards/attempt a game. The Bears are 7th in rushing attempts, but 24th in ypa. The Bears are 21st in in passing attempts/game.

When you aren't passing, interceptions and sacks go down. When you are 21st in passing attempts, it's not surprising your sacks go down. I'm not trying to be negative, but stating facts.

The stuff that has my hyped on the Bears is based on Vic Fangio and players like seeing Lanford showing up. I think we are going from Manning to Luck at RB at the moment. I am not excited to see Forte go, I think he is underrated even in the Bears community, but I think Langford has potential to be great himself and welcome the new era. I'm excited that Fangio's D is over preforming to my expectations and not due to talent, but due to his genius and knowing he wil be the DC when the talent gets there.

The offense has been bad, it's right at the bottom third of the league despite immense talent on the offense.

Immense talent, but nearly every week is a different group. I think we are one or two Olinemen away and if we have this group all healthy, they can be top 10 on O.

Cutler has avoided more sacks this year by pocket management and running for his life.

If you haven't noticed it you are not watching the games.

He has made more plays with less weapons.

I'm sorry but he deserves praise for his play.

Aside from Long (who actually was picked as a Guard) the line is devoid of 1st round talent as you insist it MUST be. I don't know that Cutlers improvement is based on OL play but more the play calling of Gase and actually tailoring more to his (Cutlers) strengths. I'd agree with a lot what TD wrote.

And yes he's improved. Why is that? Maturity? Offense play calling? All combined? Probably. The Packer win was a big monkey off his back. I'm still hoping for the sustained and continued improvement. So far the graph is going up.

I think apples and oranges...both those teams haven't lost their WR/TE weapons as Chicago has.

Well actually I'd say considering both Osweiller and Hasselbeck are backup QBs and so far are undefeated, an argument could be made they both had to overcome quite a bit to get where they are.

I also mentioned Gase's offense in my post, which Jason was replying to. So, yes, it's definitely that they're playing it conservatively and that they're getting the ball out faster. But I don't think you can say it's 100% just that, I think when things improve as they have, you have to give a little credit to the line as well. At a minimum, the coaches having the balls to move Long, which I was leery of myself, seems to have been a smart idea given the holes elsewhere.

Talent on offense which has been banged up as all hell all season.

This is the key to me. The OL really hasn't looked all that great, but Jay's ability to avoid sacks has been incredible.

Agreed. He's moving around just enough and not too much. No happy feet, just mobile.

The OL is performing I think at a good solid C level overall. But Jay, is playing at a good B+ level given that and his lack of receiving help. It's kudos to all involved. Long is out of position, we have a rook at center, we have guys like Omemmeh and Leno who may not be starters anywhere else...so there guys are doing well all considered. Slauson is a damn stud. Having a rookie RB, a gimpoy Forte, a gimpy Alshon when he's actually in, a Bennett that looks lackidasical when he's in, unpolished WR's like Wilson, etc... Those guys too are doing well all considered. The coaches are getting the most out of these guys.

Off topic a bit...

We must praise Gase and Fangio...but we kind of seem to not praise Fox. He's masterminding this beast. He's done it elsewhere with other guys. I think he's a good judge of talent in players and coaches. So if we lose Gase and/or Fangio...I have legit hope that we will find good guys to replace them. ...and our GM, Pace, certainly leaves us thinking the arrow is pointing upwards as well. It's early, but there's no denying that what we're seeing lends itself to be pleased.

Bears.

F Yeah!

Kind of replying in general...

The OL is the key to the offense. I've always said it, and it will always be true. It doesn't matter what QB or skill players you have if the OL sucks. That is fact.

For the Bears, their hasn't been a huge influx of talent. I've never said a line full of 1st rounders was necessary, but since every coach and front office the Bears have had in the last 20 years has either coached it poorly, drafted it poorly, or both, it's something I felt was necessary. I still feel like the OL has to be drafted early and often to improve the team.

Regarding Cutler, it's said up above, but he's had to move around a lot this year. He's done a great job with that because I suspect he understands, trusts, knows the offense better. Speaking of that...

The coaching all around - except ST - has been undeniably improved. With great coaching, low round picks look like high round picks. I believe that's what's happening. I'm reminded of the great Bear Bryant speech below:

Gase and the Bears have gotten conservative at times this year but I wouldn't say they have been too conservative. I think in situations Gase has pulled back a little bit too not have Cutler push too hard. Cutler on his own has thrown the ball away more often and taken a sack instead of throwing a pass when no one was open. Cutler has talked about the diffrernce from last year compared to this year with Gase, he has said Gase has put the offense in good situations with his play calling on 1st and 2nd down which has limited the 3rd and longs.

But take a look at these stats, seems to me that they have not been too conservative

Year GM Att/ average average yards INT % 20 + 40 +

2015 10 33.4 7.5 1.8 37 8

2014 15 37.4 6.8 3.2 39 8

2013 11 32.3 7.4 3.4 32 8

2012 15 28.9 7.0 3.2 38 5

Cutler already has 37 pass plays over 20 yards and 8 over 40 yards. He is only passing 4 less times a game this year compared to last year. His average yard per pass is at its highest since 2010. The Bears are running the ball a whole more this year, helping set the pass up. The are also converting on 3rd down at 41% which ranks 13th compared to 38% which ranked 24th last year. With Plays over 20 and 40 already being pretty high are they really being conservative.

I agree, the Bears need to add some talent to the oline. The offense as a whole will play better is you improve the oline. We all have seen that when Cutler has time he pick apart a Defense, even when Bad Jay shows up. This year he has been able to scramble around and make plays, its not something you want to make a living doing. Even Tom Brady makes mistakes when pressured.

With the talent the Bears have on the oline I don't care where the Bears rank as an offense, as long as they continue to win games.

Me too, Im glad to see him get through the last 3 games. The offense should have a pretty good handle on what works for them and what doesn't by now. Hope they can play even better now during the last quarter of the season.

So...Jay is now 11 games into the most consistent football he's played in his career, including a very difficult 3 game stretch against two top notch defenses (Rams and Broncos) as well as a road game against a defense that has historically eaten him up (Packers). We went 2-1 in that stretch and while he didn't light the board up in two of the games, you could see he didn't have the regression we've seen from him in the past. So basically put, he passed the test and continued to make progress.

I had the stretch ear-marked to see how Jay would do. Now, my expectations have been slightly elevated as we head down the stretch of the season against some poorer overall competition. I'm hoping to see Jay continue to make progress at limiting turnovers / being smart, but I also hope to see our overall offensive efficiency in the red zone improve (and from a 3rd down perspective, get back to where we were earlier in the year). Jay...I know you are capable of this, now lead us down the stretch with some strong play!!!
