Updated WF Mock Draft

Drafttek's new mock is interesting: http://www.drafttek.com/2016-NFL-Mock-Draft-Round1.asp

1-Robert Nkimdiche DT Miss (notable selections after: Buckner, Ragland)

I have read from some scouts that his lack of production was because teams double or triple teamed him. He is a top 5 talent, but also has flags about character. Could former SEC d-lineman Ferguson take him in and make him a pro?

2-Jerald Hawkins OT LSU (notable selections after: Jack Conklin OT, Shaq Lawson, Su'a Cravens, Kendall Fuller CB, Kevin Dodd DL)

I feel oline needs to be addressed in the first 3 rounds. He could play OT or OG and fills a void. I would have a hard time passing on Conklin even going Cravens.

3-Antwaun Woods DT USC (notable selections after: Kevin Hogan QB, Kyle Murphy OT, Sebastian Tretola G, Tyler Johnstone OT, Kyler Frackell LB, and Joe Haeg OT)

I am not a fan of spending a 3rd on a NT with Goldman on the team, bad selection. Give me Tretola G, Haeg OT, or Frackell who I believe can play ILB.

4-Dadi Nicolas OLB (notable pick I would be tempted on Christian Hackenberg QB)

I am good with a OLB after RD3 this year. I have been seeing Hackenberg RD3 or 4 lately, has he really fallen that far off? If he is there at 4, I think it is worth a shot.

5-Josh Forrest ILB

6-Tyler Higbee TE

6-Brian Poole CB

6-Kevin Byard SS

7-Eric Mac Cain OG

I don't think Fackrell is an ILB. Way back in his high school games I never saw that sudden impact (talking hitting here) you want from that spot. He was more fluid and comfortable in space and it's why I think OLB in our D fits him better.

He's a little bit like Willie Young with his length and long stride, but he's far more mobile and can turn and run when he's covering guys. He's not Von Miller quick off the snap but when he learns how to leverage his length to get his hips around the edge and then shed I think he'll be very productive as a pass rusher. But that will take time and he's going to need more strength. With questions like these plus his knee injury it'll be interesting to see how he performs at the combine as I think those drills will sort out what round he falls into and maybe, as we debate it here, what position he is drafted to play.

Just to fire up the troops...

Now 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds with terrific athleticism, Boise State’s coaches compared Fackrell to their former first-round pick Shea McClellin, who is a starting linebacker for the Bears.

HA! At least Emery and Lovie are out of work, otherwise he would be a first rounder.

The way this draft is going, we better get ILBs in FA. Unless we go M Jack or J Smith, and Smith will miss at least half the season.

That is pretty interesting. For the most part I like it, but I'm definitely not on board with NT or OLB. You already said why NT is not smart. The Bears have McPhee, Houston, Young, and Acho already. The first three obviously produced, and Acho looked like a monster at times in preseason.

I read his profile, and if we stayed in the 4-3 base, I can see a fit. Not so much with the 3-4 base and he is restricted inside. Unless they have plans to bump Goldman outside. . As for OLB, I think this year is good to add a developmental prospect. Prefer round 5 and after. They need to find a speed specialist and let him groom behind McPhee, Houston, and Young. Acho may not be back, even if he does, getting someone 6-7 years younger would be good because Young and Acho are short term fixes.

Is there any mid draft ILBs that you like that the Bears can draft? I look at Carolina and envy their D especially the LB core. I like Myles Jack, Jaylon Smith, and Ragland. I just dont see Jack dropping, Smith with the injury, or reaching for Ragland.

1-Nkimdiche DT

2-Jaylon Smith LB

3-Tretola G

this would satisfy me for a start, even with expecting Smith to miss the season. Give Shea/Jones/Timu another year and sign a top tier FA.

I like Scooby, Matakevich, Cassanova, and Kwiatkowski late.

Latest update goes...

1. Stanley OT

2. Anthony Johnson DT

3. Cardale Jones QB

4. Rashard Higgins WR

Still no ILB or S.

Given how the draft plays out I would go....

1R. Darron Lee LB Ohio State- Here's a guy who has gotten lost in the shuffle on this board, and probably because he's listed as an OLB. I think has a OLB in a 43 and an ILB in a 34. His name was brought up on another board and after looking into him, I like him a lot. CBS has him as the 18th ranked prospect and from the film I've looked at, I think he'll blow up the combine and raise that stock up even higher. QB in HS, started out as a safety in college, then moved to LB. Was a "Walkout LB" at OSU, meaning he walked out to play in coverage(I obviously covet that).

2R. Vernon Butler DT Louisiana State- Like AZ brought up in the senior bowl thread, Butler has looked really good the last few days at the Senior Bowl. For a guy his size, he looks really agile.

3R Jalen Mills CB/S LSU- Staying in the state of Louisiana and looking at another guy who has looked really solid during Senior Bowl week. Mills looks to be extremely versatile. He played safety last year for LSU, and he's started at CB there previously. He's looked really good in cornerback drills despite being looked at as a potential safety. He really looks like he could come in and start at either CB if they move on from Porter, or FS next to Amos. I would bring back Porter for a year, slot Mills at FS, then reevaluate what you wanna do with Mills next year.

4R Jerald Hawkins OT LSU- Another Louisiana player here, this one I would be shocked to see in the 4th round. CBS currently has him going in the 2nd. I for one believe they'll keep Long outside, and am hoping to see Kelechi Osemele brought in as a FA. Hawkins would be solid competition for Leno.

Further up this post, I did a few Round 2 options which one included Darrin Lee or Kyler Frackell for ILB. I would not take either of them at #11, but if they are there in Round 2 I would really consider Lee.

Yeah, I totally skipped over him thinking he was a 34 OLB for whatever reason. After looking more into him, he's def not, and def capable of playing ILB in a 34.

No way he drops to the 2R. After the combine I'm betting he goes top 15.

I just can't see Darrin Lee in the first. That would be a huge reach IMO. Especially when a guy like Ragland is still on the board.

If the draft played out like that, I'd go:

1. Ronnie Stanley, OT, ND

2. Austin Johson, DT, Penn St

3. Scooby Wright, ILB, Arizona

*That draft would hurt. ILBs Matakevich, Brown, and Scooby right before our pick in the third. I'd use a 6th to move up a few spots and nab the guy we want at ILB.

4. BPA

I could go for that. I do not know much about Johnson, other than he is rated a top DT, but a DT/DE in the first 3 rounds is a must. Sign Wilkerson or Malik Jackson and they can take CB, S, or G with the 2nd.

Feb. 4 update: 1. Ronnie Stanley, OT, ND 2. Austin Johnson, DE/DT, Penn St. 3. Cardale Jones, QB, Ohio St. 4. Rashard Higgins, WR, Colorado State First round looks good, after that I hate it.

I agree, I shut it off once I got to round 3 and seen Jones, never made it to see who they selected in Rd4.
