Abnormal mock draft

Recommended Posts

I've done a bunch of mock lately on fanspeak, and I ran into this one today that I couldn't understand. I definitely don't think this would happen, or would it be normal, but this would be an insane draft for a variety of reasons.

Would you be happy with it?

11: R1P11 DT- A'SHAWN ROBINSON- ALABAMA

41: R2P10 OLB- LEONARD FLOYD- GEORGIA

72: R3P9 RB- DERRICK HENRY- ALABAMA

107: R4P8 TE- HUNTER HENRY- ARKANSAS

128: R4P29 QB- DAK PRESCOTT- MISSISSIPPI STATE

151: R5P11 DE- BRONSON KAUFUSI- BRIGHAM YOUNG

186: R6P10 OT- TYLER JOHNSTONE- OREGON

207: R6P31 CB- WAYNE LYONS- MICHIGAN

231: R7P9 WR- DEMARCUS AYERS- HOUSTON

I know Henry in the 3rd is good value, but I think the secondary is the weak area for this team, and nothing here really helps that. I obviously don't know what DBs were available in the third for you, but I would tend to go that way (within reason) instead of Henry. OtherwiseI'd be good with it.

There is a lot to like about that, but suspect pks 2 thru 4 probably go one round before.

What rating did you use?

I used fanspeak's own board. It was quite bizarre. I could have gone a variety of ways, but BPA gave me Derrick Henry later than he should be, and Hunter Henry in the fourth/Bronson Kaufusi in the fifth is crazy.

I like that draft a lot. Several names I'm in favor of: Stanley, Cash, Smith, Oakman, Nicolas (late), Aguayo.

I don't like Jihad Ward though. I think he's a guy caught in between positions and will be a bust.

Funny a few weeks ago I brought up Floyd based on the NFL.com 4.0 mock and most said absolutely not. Is he gaining favor now?

And why is Henry suddenly not 1st round material?

Fwiw I still absolutely like the idea of getting Prescott at any level of the draft. Funny how he keeps popping up on Bears mocks. I hope it rings true.

Ward was one of the only d-lineman left by RD4, I didn't see Oakman bc they had him in as 5T, kind of like Jaylon Smith was only LB (not ILB/OLB)? I used Walters board and they had the DT's all top 60, so they were gone by RD3.

I like this draft and have been reading some good things about Ward. There is so much information out there sometimes it is hard to figure out what is right. There are a few websites I like as far as how they rate players and have found them to be consistent as far as evaluation.

OLB is a luxury pick IMO, we have McPhee, Houston, and Young taking a big chunk of $. I think using a 5, 6, or 7 is the way to go here.

Hunter Henry I assume? I think he has late 1st RD potential after looking over past drafts...but does the past 5-6 years look promising?

ROUND 1

2014 - Eric Ebron RD1-10

2013 - Tyler Eifert RD1-21

2010 - Jermaine Gresham RD1-21

----

ROUND 2

2015 - Maxx Williams RD2-55

2014 - Austin Seferian-Jenkins RD2-38

2014 - Jace Amaro RD2-49

2014 - Troy Nikolas RD2-52

2013 - Zach Ertz RD2-35

2013 - Gavin Escobar RD2-47

2013 - Vance McDonald RD2-55

2012 - Coby Fleener RD2-34

2011 - Kyle Rudolph RD2-43

2010- Rob Gronkowski RD2-42

To me, TE is a hard dart to land. Many higher round prospects take a couple years to produce. Housler was a 3rd RD pick, maybe he is ready to come around?

Prescott RD4, I am in!

The top four picks are all going to bee gone mid way through the second round.

Here is my darts at our draft

11: R1P11

DT A'SHAWN ROBINSON BPA and will be a very good player in the NFL

ALABAMA

41: R2P10

OLB KEVIN DODD I think he becomes a better NFL player than his counterpart at Clemson(Lawson)

CLEMSON

72: R3P9

S VONN BELL I think he is the best FS in the draft-Amos will play better at SS for us

OHIO STATE

107: R4P8

TE NICK VANNETT A well rounder player that has upside as a receiver .

OHIO STATE

128: R4P29

RB TYLER ERVIN He was the BPA at the time, has great return skills and will fit in as a RBC

SAN JOSE ST

151: R5P11

CB ERIC MURRAY A big corner with developing skills

MINNESOTA

186: R6P10

DT MATT IOANNIDIS I read a few scouts opinions and think he could develop into an every down starter one day

TEMPLE

207: R6P31

QB JACOBY BRISETT Just a prospect to work with, we have to face the fact that Cutler is going to be around for the 3 or 4 years

NORTH CAROLINA ST

231: R7P9

K ROBERT AGUAYO Goodby norma jean(Gould) we knew you well

FLORIDA ST

This is how this draft fell using the NFL.Com rankings

I could bye into it.

I personally would prefer Rankins over arob but I think that's a morerealistic draft. It awesome to dream of all these players people have been putting in our slots that have low first round grades but for petes sake let's try to be realistic.

Dodd is better than Shaq.

Lastly, it's my opinion that our board is undervaluing Robert tremendously. He won't be a seventh round pick with the new rules . I'd bet any amount of money he won't last into the seventh.

If the strength of the draft is the dline and that is the teams greatest need what i would do would be draft best player available 1st round and then draft dline whatever position 2nd and 3rd round. With Hicks, Unrein, Ferguson and Sutton with 2 other draft picks we should be set for the foreseeable future.

It will depend on who is available. We could get the #2 OT, #2 DT, #1 RB, #1WR etc, take the guy that will make the biggest difference for years.
