dawhizz
One year deal. Decent depth and special teamer and seemed like a good locker room guy, by all accounts.

scs787
Yeah, solid depth. Unless they trade one of Houston/Young, I really don't see them taking an OLB early. Maybe a prospect later on.

It they think a playmaker is that at 11(in their opinion) OLB could be our first pick. Spence , Lawson,Floyd, Ogbah. I am not sure if those are any difference makers but they probably know. Sam is a good guy but I think this falls into the category where the agent calls the team, and team takes a no risk deal. That's all good I just hope we get some fast competition for edge rusher into camp.

All those guys are close to locks to be there at 11, you would think if they liked one of em and had intentions on going that direction they would have traded Houston/Young. I can't see them going into the season with McPhee, Houston, Young, Acho, and a 1st round pick. I could be wrong but that is a lot of investment in one position. I think they might add a mid/late rounder. James Cowser is a guy I really like. Holds the FCS record for TFL and sacks, plus he had the fastest 3 cone drill at the combine with a 6.80(Bosa was 2nd with a 6.89). As far as drills go, the 3 cone drill is my favorite to evaluate OLBs. Not sure why Cowser doesn't get more love. He's older for a prospect but still, I think he might be a steal. scs787
If yhey thonk one of those guys are vonn miller, do they worry about to many bodies I don't think they do otherwise they would have got some value back for Houston/Young.....Unless whoever they like they think might be gone. I personally don't think any will be gone, but I suppose they could keep Houston/Young around just encase. I also don't think any of the OLBs are worth the pick at 11. It wood be reaching for a "Need" which isn't even a need.

I agree, there really isnt any that appear to be of a 11 valve, but they do much more research on them than we do, so they may have a different view. As much as Young, Houston, McPhee can be good, none of them are stud edge rushers, someone than can get you 12 - 15 sacks a year. Because there are not that many plums at that position, they may valve one of them at 11.
scs787
I just think Lamarr Houston is criminally underrated. Houston- 8 sacks 417 snaps Miller- 11 sacks 835 snaps I'm not saying Houston>Miller, just throwing those numbers out there. Houston played a lot of OLB in Oakland the year before he got the contract with the Bears. If I remember correctly he was in the top 5-10 in pressures that year. I think Houston started showing us glimpses of what he can do as his leg gained strength. Young may prefer to be strictly a 4-3 DE, but I think he enjoyed his role when his sacks started rolling also. I see OLB as one of the bigger needs next offseason and not a priority this one. I hope the class of OLB is stronger next year also.
lemonej
I'm trying hard to remember the stud edge rusher that Fangio had in SF and besides Aldon Smith, I'm stomped! It seems like we are trying to mix the Denver defense under Fox with the 49er defense under Fangio. Not a bad idea but, I believe different approaches that would have to be combined.
