AZ54
Anyone else drinking this Kool-Aid? http://www.scout.com/nfl/bears/story/16720...-top-10-in-2016 In the article he states our secondary was ranked 4th in the league but I find that deceiving in part due to the lack of run defense. I also don't have the much confidence in either Fuller or Porter. Yet we weren't that bad in the 2nd half of the season. Evidence for optimism resides here: http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2015112602/2...3&tab=recap I think top 10 D is a realistic possibility with a little bit of luck. That luck includes someone else among the young safeties stepping up as a legit starter next to Amos. Good health among the ILB starters. A young OLB in Floyd who can get around the edge and force QBs to step up in the pocket early.
adam
I don't think we are top 10 but have a chance to get really close, I am thinking from 11-15 in terms of defensive rank. If our offense can be in the same range, we have playoff potential, but if one of the units falters and ends up in the 20's then we are a 7-9 team. Our biggest issue was with creating turnovers. 2nd to last in INTs, and 3rd to last in overall turnovers. We need to create more which will get the defense off the field quicker and give the offense more opportunities. I like all the stats here: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teameff According to FBO, we had the 10th most efficient offense and 31st defense. I've noted Young and Houston before, and how their second half success was much more than their first half. They were nursing injuries in the first half, and really started to come on. Now imagine them both healthy, with one year under their belts at a new position, ready to prove themselves. And, as an added bonus, they don't have to worry about covering the interior of the field and filling the hole created by under-performing ILBs. Add in McPhee and Floyd, and it's impossible the Bears don't significantly improve on the pass rush. Everything else is kind of an off-shoot of that. The run game was brutal at times, and that's mostly because everyone knew we couldn't rush the passer, so there were issues that had to be overcompensated for. As a result, the run D wasn't great. It wouldn't have been as big of an issue if the ILBs were competent, but they weren't. I'm on board with top 10. Very possible.
'TD'
It's possible but based of last year I think it won't be. Last year, the team leaned on the run on offense and were ate up with the run on D. I think this year, teams will have to pass more as the Bears improved at linebacker. The Bears let up a 99 or better QBrating or better against the pass from memory. I think the improvement on the front 7 will expose the secondary and allow more points and yards for a defense. Teams just didn't need to pass last year, in a passing league. I will go top 5 on the run next year, but failed in the pass, and at best 15 in d in yards allowed, and 20th in points allowed.
Mongo3451
I'm hopeful, but skeptical. There are too many factors involved, including that we don't know how teams planned for us. For all we know teams may have decided to work on other stuff when they played us from lack of respect. I'm almost certain Fox will establish a strength and identity with this team and that he and Pace are on the right track.

There is no way other teams "decided to work on other stuff when they played us from lack of respect". That is crazy talk. We played 11 games decided by 6 pts or less and played one of the toughest schedules in the league. This season we have made significant offseason acquisitions and play one of the easiest schedules in the league.
