So the guy who has had a hard time playing cares more? This is just ridiculous. This whole Jay doesn't care schtick is pathetic. IF you want to rip him, rip him for his play on the field, but he is who he is and the guy has proven he's a tough SOB who takes a ton of shots, etc. Back when he got pissed at Martz, he was classless, now he tries to keep a calm demeanor and more of the same. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
madlithuanian
It's a results game...and we've not seen much good results. Career, he's .500. That is exactly who he is. I want better. If we don't give someone else a shot, we will be stuck with more of the same. Yup, it could get worse. But, at least we'll get a top 5 draft pick... He's had every possible excuse in the world to rationalize why he isn't getting it done. We know...the OL, the coaching, the WR's, the night games, the diabetes, the lack of national media respect, the lack of Honey Bears, the historical bad D, some players and coaches just not liking him for no good reason... It's just time... He could probably rock it in NE. But, given our situation...he will not get it done here. If he were 5 years younger and could wait 3 more years...maybe. But, we don't have that. We need a general behind center that can manage the game whle we find a true franchise QB. We need a McCown or Orton right now... Then, we can roll the dice and try to finally get lucky. We don't need a McCown or Orton, we need to find an above average QB. And I agree with everything you said and have been saying the same thing, now is the time to move on from Jay (albeit, I want it to be at the end of the season with us trading him). I was more ripping McPhee for his behavior and the people who are ripping Jay for anything other then his performance on the field.
madlithuanian
If we can get a trade for him...that would be sweet. Agreed on McPhee...while I get the frustration (especially at the moment...and as a fan I initially loved it, but after re-thinking it, not so much), it shows lack of class. Especially a guy sitting on the side in street clothes... We don't need a McCown or Orton, we need to find an above average QB. 50england50
McPhee should keep is mouth shut. He isn't helping the situation by getting in Cutler's face especially on the sidelines and what is he able to do anyway. He needs to put all his energy into rehabbing to get fit and if he wants to make a positive input the best he could do is mentor Floyd. He should grab a tablet and go through each play when our offense is on the field and help Floyd understand the player he is facing weaknesses and what he can do to expose it. I have watched the game on NFL gamepass coaches mode. All of the players i.e. Oline, tight ends and backs are hot garbage in their blocking assignments we have paid big money to Sinton, Long and Massie, if I was one of them I would be embarrassed to collect my pay check. At the least Sinton, Long and Whitehair could do with spending as much time together as possible trying to build an understanding. In my view if we are strong in the middle at least we could play 1 back, 2 tight ends and 2 wide receivers as our base package with the tight ends helping out Massie and Leno jnr either in the run game or as a chip block prior to running their pass route. But completely different to watch players crush him when they can't even get on The field. Ask any coaches or gm and they are in complete agreement. The majority of this all comes down to a simple phrase "are you available to work each and every week. For the most part over the course of Jay's career the answer is simply yes. He is as tough as the come. Sure we never know which Jay will show but at least he's available to work. I haven't seen that from Mcphee much. Alaskan Grizzly
I lost track of the posts and submitted my thoughts on McPhees reaction on another string. But simply put, McPhee has every right to challenge Cutler. Cutler has never held back in the past about challenging coaches and players on the field for what he perceived they did wrong. (Whether or not they did is the basis for many a debate). And the fact McPhee is in street clothes makes no matter. Last I checked he's still on the 53 man roster and at one time he was chosen to be a team captain. That's his job. If you or I don't like it... Oh well. bowlingtwig
Let's not get carried away...as tough as Jay is, he's missed his fair share of games. He's missed a total of 13 games since becoming a starter his rookie year in Denver. 11 years now in the league. That's actually pretty darn good. And 6 of those games came in 1 yr. This is my point. Like I said. "for the most part" he's been available.

Yes. Yes. Yes. That's what the Patriots did last night with glowing success. Sure, their D carried the load, but their O was smart with the ball and protected their #3 guy because they had zero behind him. The Bears should absolutely be in some form of max protect on 90% of the downs.
madlithuanian
Fair enough. You think he's gotten an unfair run of it. I get it. I just don't agree. After 7 years here, fair shake or not...I don't see it happening with him. And I honestly don't care if the meatball fan-base hates him or The Chicago Trib or Sun Times gets on him... I see it in the games. You can say we squandered the opportunity with him and I think you're right. In his prime, this organization did him no favors. But, he's not getting any younger, and the organization still isn't doing him any favors. He needs specific help to make it happen. He's not going to get it until it's time for him to retire. I'd rather get someone else in there that can manage things while we find our OTs. Then, bring in the young gun. Only one coach made Jay manage...and that was Gase. He gone. Now, Jay is back to his old bad habits. Leopards rarely change their spots. He's missed a total of 13 games since becoming a starter his rookie year in Denver. 11 years now in the league. He is to old at this point to be a part of the future going forward. I also know there's no way hoyer can be either. Honestly what I would do is give hoyer the reins for next couple weeks to give Barkley time to catch up on things and then I'm putting him out there for rest of the season(if he stays healthy). No I don't think he's the future but who the heck knows he might be a #2 that we can move forward with. We draft a qb in 1st or 2nd round for 2017 and hopefully we hit a home run there and we must give him protection otherwise it won't who is back there

ASHKUM BEAR
The same Urlacher that called Jay a "p**sy" when he played for the team? Must be true since Bobby Wade was the one that said he (Urlacher) said it. McPhee still looked bad doing that, and when Jay did that to Jamarcus Webb, he took the critcism. He should have been screaming at Massie and TE Logan for getting him killed, but he usually takes the high road. I think everyone is good moving on from Jay, but most people know it is not feasible until the season is over. Reading about this crap for 8 years or whatever has been sickening and hopefully the Bears get lucky and can draft one. I have my doubts though because this is the Bears and they dont know qbs.
