2017 Mock Draft

Two assumptions:

1) If the Bears lose to SF (I expect they will), they will have lost H2H vs Jacksonville and SF. That puts the Bears squarely in the #2 spot if I'm not mistaken.

2) The Browns have to take a QB. They've started 5 guys there, and even their version of Slash (Pryor) has a handful of passes. It's a mess and they need a QB.

RD 1 - Myles Garrett, DE, TXA&M - Solidifies the only weak spot in the front 7. Elevates this D one more huge notch. With no injuries, that's a top 5 D in 2017.

RD 2 - Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson - By all accounts he has slipped out of the first round. I'm sure it's a mixed bag here. I think he'd be a great catch in the 2nd.

RD 3 - Julie'n Davenport, OT, Bucknell - This may be a reach, but dude is a monster. I'd like to add him as a LT, and RT as a fall-back plan.

RD 4 - Budda Baker, FS, Washington - Elite speed, range, athleticism. He will likely drop because his height (5'10").

RD 4 - Ryan Switzer, WR, UNC - He's almost the exact same size as Eddie Royal, and he's Royal's replacement. I love Switzer.

RD 5 - Kevin King, CB, Washington - Everyone loves the harmonious approach on the OL, I say it applies in the secondary.

RD 7 - Jake Elliot, K, Memphis - Wasted pick? Maybe. I don't care. Grab him before he decides he'd rather go to another team and doesn't accept the UDFA call. Give Barth cab fare home.

Head to Head play has no bearing on which team picks higher vs. the others. If you have the same record, the first tie-breaker is opponent winning percentages. Teams with the worse opponent winning percentages pick higher then those with higher winning percentages. I would imagine we will be favorites on Sunday (especially given we are the home team).

I was going to say this very thing. Brad Biggs mentioned it in his article today.

Peace :dabears

Damn! I didn't know that. That screws up everything. No way Myles Garrett drops past #2.

Does anyone know how he's getting the SOS in his article?

The Bears opponents are 65-55 for a 54.2% win percentage.

The Niners opponents are 66-52 for a 55.9% win percentage.

I would have figured the Bears would already be drafting ahead of the Niners with that in mind.

Bears have 2 wins, niners have 1. If we lost on Sunday, we would likely hold the tiebreaker, however the strength of schedule can be volatile.

No, read the article again. He's listing a percentage based SOS next to each team, based on current standings.

He has the Bears at .514 and the Niners at .517. I don't know how he's getting those numbers.

I get the wins. That obvious. If the Niners beat the Bears, however, he insinuates the Bears could slip ahead of the Niners. I'd like to look at the formula to predict if it would hold true, and if it would continue with the rest of the schedule.

I think the record you are showing is our opponents that we have played to date (and is not factoring in who we will be playing the rest of the season). Where as Haugh's record is showing the current winning percentage of our opponents we have played thus far as well as the ones we are scheduled to play from here out.

About once a month I watch another Garrett game and come away unimpressed. Maybe unimpressed is the wrong word because I can see the physical tools and at times they show up. This time around I watched him go up against Alabama LT Cam Robinson. Robinson handled him one-on-on on almost every play without difficulty. That leaves me wondering who the top 10 prospect is. Robinson isn't supposed to be that great of a LT prospect ( I think his feet are a bit slow) yet he's shutting down a guy expected to be the top overall prospect in Garrett who is touted as a once-a-decade edge rusher. Equally frustrating is Garrett's lack of effort once the play moves away from him. If he's got elite talent/speed and quickness I didn't see it in pursuit. He's great when he's not blocked. How much of this was injury related since he's fighting through a high ankle sprain? That's hard to say. I'll keep watching and maybe the best chance to see his ability will be in a bowl game.

I have no doubt Garrett will shine in pre-draft workouts, plus I can see he has work to do with using his hands better as well as developing some pass rush moves. There is room for him to grow and you don't find that athletic ability with his size too often.

----------

I don't like Watson as an NFL QB. I see too many accuracy issues as well as poor decision making. I think he goes best with Chip Kelly.

----------

I first saw Julie'n Davenport mentioned as our 2nd Rd pick on Walterfootball. I was surprised to see anyone from Bucknell listed in the 2nd round. I watched his game against VMI and while I see good movement skills he doesn't have much power. VMI players pushed him around quite a bit. That was one game and it was early in the season. I prefer to see at least 3 games for any player. Still I have trouble seeing him as an early 3rd Rd pick. If he can get into the Senior Bowl and shows he can take advantage of good coaching and improve during that week then his stock will go up.

---------

Budda Baker is a good football player but he's small for a safety. I like him.

---------

Same with Switzer, except I'm not sure we need another WR. Wilson looked far better than I expected this past week, and I expect Meredith will bounce back. Then there is Braverman who I hope to see on the field soon.

--------

If Kevin King is in the draft I expect he'll go much higher than the 5th Rd. I watched this INT live and it's every bit as good as Odell Beckam's signature catch. Washington has a very good defense and we'll be seeing a lot of their players in the NFL in the near future. I have watched a few of their games but haven't keyed in on King. I just know they don't have trouble covering WRs.

------------

No issues with a K in the 7th Rd.

Nice input AZ! I like Kevin King and Davenport myself more as 4th RD picks. My thought on D Watson doing well is if he lands with the right team. It will take a team like DAL with a great oline/run game to cover his flaws.
