Pixote
Hroniss Grasu was thought to be our future at center. He was, to the best of my knowledge, never thought of as a G/C, just a Center. However, once injured Cody Whitehair took over, a player supposedly a OG that was converted to center and has done exceptionally well. So what happens next year? Do we try to convert Grasu to a OG? I do not think he has the size to succeed there. Does Grasu return to OC and Cody Whitehair return to OG? I am kind of curious how this plays out. I actually think I would keep Whitehair at OC. However, I am not sure where that puts Grasu.

However, I am not sure where that puts Grasu. it's a good dilemma to be in for a change. whitehair has real potential to be a future pro-bowl player at center. but... 1. unless we cut sitton who IS a pro-bowl guard i don't see him replacing either him or long. 2. grasu is an unknown with potential to be a good center. how good we don't know because he hasn't been able to stay on the field without injury long enough to make a decision either way. 3. IF whitehair can play tackle at a high level, which he did in college, that opens up a whole lot of possibilities either at right tackle replacing massey or even slipping into the spot leno is playing in. this in turn, saves us a high draft pick at that position although i do NOT want to see him become a mediocre tackle and diminish his so far great career potential at center or guard. so this is going to be an interesting offseason in how our offensive line shapes up. However, I am not sure where that puts Grasu. Grasu has been relegated to a backup role. There is no way he beats out the top 3. His best chance to have a long career is to get heavier and stronger so he can provide depth to the interior positions. Whitehair is a stud. If Long or Sitton leave or suffer major injury, Grasu will then be ready. I'm for drafting an OT.
jason
I'm vexed about the decision. When Whitehair was drafted he was thought of as the #1 OG in the draft, despite the fact that he was the highest rated NCAA LT last year. When he was drafted, the Bears still had Slausson, but many of us thought it might be an omen to Slausson's future with the team (despite disagreeing with his departure). So his drafting had us thinking the starting lineup would be LT, Slausson, Grasu, Long, RT, with Whitehair as a backup. Then Grasu went down. Nowhere in Whitehair's consideration was the idea of moving him to Center. The fact he's done well there is just an indication of his talent level. Which makes me think he's good enough to play anywhere. Which makes me think the Bears should move him to one of the tackle positions when Grasu comes back. I prefer throwing him in the deep water at LT and seeing how he does. He could always be flipped back to RT. That leaves the Bears with three relatively young players on the OL along side an all-pro who can build continuity with a rookie or FA. The more I think about it (heads up Alaska), the more I like the idea of the Bears drafting Cam Robinson and solidifying the OL. Cam/Cody, Larsen, Grasu, Long, Cam/Cody
