All offense or all defense?

I think about this every year. Go all out on one side of the ball, and drastically improve the unit.

This year, do it on defense and you have a chance of creating the best D in the NFL. But does it help the team enough? Do it on offense, and you could potentially bring up the level enough to complement the impressive D.

ALL OFFENSE

1. DeShone Kizer, QB, ND - Presumed franchise QB secured. He starts day 1.

2. Ryan Ramczyk, OT, Wisconsin - Bookend franchise LT secured. MadLith takes a shot in celebration.

3. Jake Butt, TE, Michigan - I don't see all the TEs (Howard, Njoku, Engram, Leggett, Hodges) going in the 1st three rounds.

4. Isaiah Ford, WR, Va Tech - Potential #1 WR - deep WR class - who can take the top off the defense.

4. Chad Kelly, QB, Mississippi - Insurance. Great value. If he hadn't been hurt, he's likely a 1st-2nd rounder.

5. Chad Wheeler, OT, USC - One more LT/RT on the roster. Huge value here for a guy who has character concerns.

7. Isaiah McKenzie, WR, Georgia - Two Isaiah WRs. This one might be the fastest WR in the draft, and brings ST return ability.

ALL DEFENSE

1. Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama - Shut down corner secured. Opponents need to start throwing the other way.

2. Desmond King, CB, Iowa - Corner #2 secured. Let the "Who's going to start"-games begin.

3. Tanoh Kpassagnon, 3-4DE, Villanova - Scary edge rusher with great measurables. Unrein takes a seat.

4. Orion Stewart, S, Baylor - A lot of talent, great size, legit highlight reel, cool name.

4. Josh Carraway, 3-4OLB, TCU - Speed rush OLB with potential.

5. Lowell Lotulelei, NT, Utah - Star's younger brother. When Goldman is out, the team is not the same. This is insurance.

7. Hardy Nickerson, ILB/OLB, Illinois - Based purely on name and location.

Which do you prefer?

I would love to see the Bears go all out on the Defense, but they really need to invest in the offense. We know it will be a combination of both, but if it came to a choice it has to be offense because this team needs to establish a long term QB.

Though choice but I'll go with the defense just because I enjoy watching a great defense play. Then I'll spend my money in FA on offense. I think you have Kpassagnon going too early but if we take him can we just call him Kpassa?

We've already argued this point of taking another RB, but if we went with your all-offense I'd replace Chad Kelly with Nick Chubb. Yes, Howard is the starter but this will be a nice change of pace. Keep Langford too and say goodbye to Carey. We would either have a rookie QB, Barkley, Hoyer, or some other retread like Cutler handing off. Anyway you look at it having a very good and durable running game is important given our QB situation. You need a 1a and 1b to pull it off for 16 games.

Obviously. But this is hypothetical.

Obviously. But this is hypothetical.

Did some hypothetical drafts, now that I had time to run a few mocks on fanspeak. I ran two offense and two defense using CBS and Matt Miller's to play this out.

Defense-using CBS

1-Derek Barnett OLB Tenn-come April, he will be pushing Garnett to be the top pass rusher when NFL scouts start to chatter. He will compliment Floyd well.

2-Desmond King CB Iowa -this was tough, bc he makes a great zone CB but should grasp man coverage also. Considered Tankersly from Clem but went with King bc he is a higher rated prospect.

3-Budda Baker FS Wash- hard to believe he fell as they had him ranked around 55, but if he falls he is the answer at FS. Looking at Eddie Jackson Ala also at FS, but only with the RD4 first pick.

4-Quin Blanding SS Vir -Another SS prospect to push or start.

4-Eddie Vanderdoes DE UCLA- 3-4 End to mix with Bullard, Washington, Unrien. I would also sign FA Calais Campbell from ARZ to start and let the young guys spell when needed.

5-DJ Jone NT Ole Miss-big run stuffer to anchor the middle and spell Goldman.

7-Ben Boulware LB Clem-was a higher prospect last year and fell off some this year.

Offense-also used CBS here too.

1-Mitch Trubisky QB NC- raw prospect since he has one year of tape, but can make all the throws.

2-Mike McGlinchey OT ND- the Bears interior is a strong point and upgrading OT is huge priority to protect any QB.

3-Chad Wheeler OT USC- has great movement and plays aggresive. The Bears have two top OT prospects and will have to work out which side each will end up.

4-Jeremy Sprinkle TE Ark- He may be the most complete TE in the draft for blocking and receiving.

4-Artavis Scott WR Clem- Scott would replace Royal in the slot. Re-sign AJ and Hopefully White can stay healthy.

5-Brian Hill RB Wyoming - another RB to push Carey.

7-KD Cannon WR Baylor- like the name. Another slot WR who is rated high on some mocks. Maybe bring along as a KR too.

I like Brian Hill as a good compliment to Howard, strong between the tackles runner.

Oh, if McGlinchey is there in the second, that's a default pick. I'm operating under the assumption he won't be available.

Hard to say, I think Ramczyk will be the top 10 prospect, but who knows until we get closer to April. I used fanspeak to run the mock using CBS' s big board and they had him available. I ran it again and he was gone but Roderick Johnson FSU was available. It would be nice to get 2 starting caliber OTs to either push our current starters or to replace them.
