49ers DC

With the 49ers new DC having mostly a 4-3 background it would seem that's the direction they are going. Fans on one message board are not too enamored with Arik Armstead and if they switch to a 4-3 most speculate he'll end up at LDE. Not an ideal fit for his skills. If nothing else most seem to want a top tier FA DT brought in which would move AA to a backup role, or kick him outside to LDE. All of which makes it possible to see AA on the trade block. We'll see which FA the 49ers are connected to when we get to the combine as that could give a good idea where they see AA fit on their D.

Other than that it's no surprise their fans are focused on the same targets we're talking about in FA. In my fantasy world I'd give them Cutler, a 4th Rd pick, and take AA off their hands. If I'm not mistaken Cutler was drafted by the younger Shanny's father but it's impossible to say if they'd have any interest.

I saw the same thing posted on another site. With new DC's background, there may be a few players that don't "fit" and new regime will look to move on from those players as quick as possible. Also aligns with us having a plethora of 4-3 DE's playing OLB (Houston, Young, etc) who could be potentially available.

What about Lamarr Houston and a late-round pick for Armistead?

Is Arik Armstead enough of a difference maker to go after? I watched very little 49er football last year but looking at his stats on NFL.com I am seeing 23 tackles and 4.5 sacks TOTAL for 2 years? Then a shoulder injury putting him on IR on Nov 8, 2016?

As a cheap FA pickup for a look see in preseason, OK, but I certainly would not give up any draft picks for him.

It will take sometime for them to sort things out, they are not going to give up on a recent first round pick that quickly, they will try to fit him somewhere.
