Post FA Mock Draft

Lots of positions have been addressed, but very few problems have been solved, IMO. I'm interested to see how other people think we should attack the draft, besides of course a BPA approach, but here's what I think I would do:

**Trade #3 to Browns for #12, #33, #108 (4th round), #187 (6th round) and a future 3rd. The Browns are trying to recreate the Cowboys - they've spent the offseason beefing up their O-line, now they need their Zeke, but have to get ahead of the Jaguars and Jets to get Fournette, so they do.

1) OJ Howard, TE, Alabama - Given Glennon the help he needs part 1. I balk at this a bit because I know this is a deep TE draft, but he's obviously the best guy and maybe the best in a few years.

2) JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, USC - Given Glenn the help he needs part 2. I'm not sold on the receiving corps - lots of ifs and maybes. Smith-Schuster is my current draft crush - I love his tape and he's only 20 years old.

2) Marcus Williams, S, Utah - We added Demps, but I still don't think we have another startable safety on the roster. I would add the playmaking Williams, start him with Demps, and make Amos/Bush battle it out for third safety. Jones-Quartay is cut.

3) Davis Webb, QB, Cal - I think this is where the Bears get their QB of the future. It might be Peterman, depending on how they liked him at the Senior Bowl, but I like Webb's size and arm strength more, plus he's a nice copy of Glennon, so they can both operate out of the same offense.

4) Damontre Kazee, CB, San Diego State - The Bears have lots of big corners, but need some more completion inside, Kazee's got a lot of ints and has a little Nathan Vasher in him, I think.

4) Dan Skipper, OT, Arkansas - Even after adding Tom Compton, need more OT competition. Skipper might be too big (6'9"), but there's not a lot of OT prospects in this draft who might be able to handle LT, but he's one of them.

4) Jaleel Johnson, DE, Iowa - Competition for Unrein/Bullard at DE and might even be able to play a little inside.

5) Ejuan Price, LB, Pitt - Undersized edge rusher that maybe Fangio can find a role for. Need more pressure on the QB

6) Stevie Tu-Ikolovatu, NT, USC - Need a legit NT for depth behind Goldman.

7) Zane Gonzalez, K, Arizona State - I was not impressed by Connor Barth last year and I doubt the Bears were either.

Thoughts? What do others want to see in the draft?

I hate it because of the start.

1. Why sign a FA TE and have Miller only to put them on the bench for a 1st rounder who is in quite possibly the deepest TE draft in decades?

2. Why sign a fairly deep/experienced group of WRs if the intention is to use a 2nd rounder on a WR? Not only that, but I am not sold on JJSS. He doesn't appear to have the explosiveness to get away from DBs, most of his TDs came against bad teams, and he doesn't seem to produce against really good teams.

3. Webb has only played in gimmick offenses designed to exploit college defenses that rarely translate to the NFL. He's probably the QB I like the least in the top 7-8 QBs.

Agreed on all 3 points.

FWIW - I'd probably do the following (without the possibility of trade-downs, which I'd prefer), which is almost entirely a boom or bust draft:

1. Jonathan Allen, DE - Shoulder history or not, it didn't affect him when he beat down offensive linemen.

2. DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame - I think he slips. Too good to pass.

3. Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma - It wouldn't be popular, and I don't want to get into politics, but I'd pick him here. Huge value.

4. Julie'n Davenport, OT, Bucknell - His measurables are too good to pass up.

4. Jordan Leggett, TE, Clemson - Really don't understand why he seems to be slotted here. He's a stud.

5. Chad Kelly, QB, Ole Miss - Yes, double-dipping on QB. Kelly is 1st round talent. If he screws up

7. BPA

Damn Jason stop spying on me while I'm writing my notes lol! My only difference is Mixon at the 3rd pick and I'm hoping for either Obi .... and Zay Jones at this spot.

The draft I would like is the following:

1 Jonathan Allen

2 Marlon Humphrey CB. Or which ever CB is preferable because a lot of decent players should be available here

3 Patrick Mahomes QB I hope the concerns around his mechanics and it being a poor QB class cause him to drop

4 Jake Butt TE

4 Chad Hansen WR

5 John Johnson FS

7 Javancy Jones OLB

I am intrigued by Deshon Watson and would consider trading our 2018 1st to get back into the first to draft him similar to hoe the Vikings approached drafts a few years ago. We could then have a 5th year option which is desirable when developing a QB. If he gets past Houston at 25 then all of the other teams are unlikely to take a QB. I think there is a great benefit with having the 5th option when you have a good prospect at QB.

I'm torn on nearly the same idea. I feel there are several intriguing mid/late round QB prospects, and this year presents a perfect opportunity for such a consideration because the top guys are not rated as high as they will likely go. On top of that, Glennon's contract says he's the guaranteed starter for at least the first year, so it makes less sense to draft a QB early. Otherwise, why pick up Glennon at all? The Bears' front office believes Glennon has the potential do be good, otherwise they would have stayed with someone like Hoyer or Barkley and drafted a QB high.
