adam
With the tough loss of Meredith, it looks like we will carry 6 WRs? 1. White 2. Wright 3. Gentry 4. Thompson --------------- 5. Cruz 6. Davis/Bellamy/Wheaton Wheaton hasn't played as far as I know, and Bellamy is also hurt. 2 QB Glennon/Trubisky 4 RB Howard/Cohen/Langford/Cunningham 4 TE Sims/Miller/Shaheen/Brown 6 WR White/Wright/Gentry/Thompson/Cruz/Davis 8 OL Whitehair/Long/Sutton/Leno/Massie/Compton/Grasu/Morgan 1 Flex (1 of Stevenson-FB/Bellamy-WR/Wheaton-WR/Braunecker-TE)
AZ54
I think Wheaton makes the team over Cruz based on his contract and what he offers in terms of a deep threat. Cruz just doesn't offer much of anything and we'd be better off going with at least one of the younger WRs. Plus I still think Cohen fills in as a slot WR for us and offers far more there than Cruz ever could. Kendall Wright has bad hands, but he's at least mobile enough to get open. The RB situation is interesting because Langford showed some patience and looked ok there. But he offers nothing on special teams so I think Cunningham is ahead of him. I don't think we'll keep 4 on the roster but we will keep a FB (Burton) and likely see Stevenson on the practice squad. I think we'll look to offset the loss of Meredith by keeping 4 TEs too. That helps both the running game and between Brown and Miller can provide some decent mismatches when they are split out wide.

I don't think we will keep a FB and instead will keep the plethora of RB's. Langford played well and I actually think he is a solid RB2, but we have other guys who are better or who serve more roles. He's a guy that if I were on another team and more thin at the position, I would quickly gob up (or even be willing to potentially deal a very late round pick for). Wheaton should make the team, if he's healthy, because he provides downfield speed and pass threats that our other players don't possess. jason
I'm as excited about Gentry as he next guy, but I don't see how he leap frogged all the vets. Let's see him play against some first team defenses before announcing him the next best WR. The other guys have proven themselves in one way or another against actual starting NFL defenses. I was asking more than telling, and I think with the Meredith injury that he would fill the hole before Cruz who is more of a slot receiver. I didn't know Wheaton's or Bellamy's status so I put them under the cut line. With Bellamy's ST duties, he obviously has more value. I believe Gentry has played on ST as well. lemonej
Gentry could be a practice squad candidate but ,I wouldn't risk losing him. That leaves pup options for Bellamy and Wheaton for the beginning of the season.
