Steelers at Bears Gamethread

No kidding. Showed a ton of guts to leave the game twice because of that shoulder injury but continue playing like that. What a great person Cohen has to lean on and learn from

I think with the less and less of hitting in the preseason that it is takes teams 2 and 3 weeks to get their kinks out. We now have an identity. Power run was a west coast type of passing game. Let Wheaton get his legs under him and we will start to open up a passing game. Defense is starting to come together , a lack of pressure is bothersome but we will work that out with more blitzes.

Howard and Cohen 1-2 punched us to victory. Epic win. Cooper redeemed himself in the 2nd half, 8 targets against, and only 1 completion. Now he needs some INTs to completely redeem himself.

After the Cohen run in OT, I was screaming like a little school girl, to then see it get called back, I was soo pissed. I can't see how that side judge would rule that out. Just let the play complete itself, then let the booth review. By stopping it, you can't undo that if you are wrong. So luckily Howard said screw it and literally carried us to victory on one shoulder. I was worried about a holding call on Thompson near the goal line, so I am glad there was a no call, and likely a repayment for the Cohen blunder call.

I also think the Howard fumble earlier was bogus, two knees down before the ball is stripped out. Should not have been a fumble.

Defensive front 4 got very little pressure early, but both McPhee and Young had timely 3rd down, drive ending sacks in the 2nd half.

Amukamara, Cooper, and Fuller all had 2 passes defended apiece. Something we have not seen in quite some time.

Huge win, and crazy to think we could be 2-1 right now with wins against ATL and PIT if we could've pulled out the win in Week 1 with 4 chances inside the 10.

Great win...despite Glennon. Time for Trubisky. Loved the defensive performance. They are getting their hands on a lot of footballs and that should turn into more and more turnovers. Guy I want to really highlight on the D is Fuller. He has really looked good this year.

Ditto on Fuller. He came out to play and gave some hard hits. Waiting on Floyd and Bullard to start showing up.

Can't disagree there. Fuller really had looked good

Defense played well, but we need more from the pass rush—specifically from Floyd. We're 3 weeks into he year and he's still without a sack. For all that perceived improvement we saw from him in training camp, he hasn't shown it during the regular season yet. I think he may just be a complimentary pass rushing specialist, rather than a bonafide stud like a Von Miller/Vic Beasley type, and that would suck. Prove me wrong, Floyd.

Floyd should have had a sack but left his feet and Ben is athletic enough to evade that. Ben's not an easy QB to bring down, we got to him a some key spots. I do feel like our D has grown leaps and bounds since Fangio got here. The sacks and turnovers will come. Like I said after the Atlanta game this D will keep us in games. But the offense has got to get better and help them out. Going into the season I knew the D and the Run game would be a strength and that's been true thus far. Special teams has been much improved, the offense has gone in reverse.

Floyd is a bust, he gets completely manhandled at the LOS. All he has is speed which is easily negated with a few steps from the OT. Once he engages with the OL, he is done.

I try and keep an eye on Floyd and I see he isn't using his arms/length like he should. He needs to use that length to keep blockers off of him. Hope the coaching can correct this and we can see some sacks on ARod.

I had seen something earlier this year where Floyd was asked about his thoughts on how more effective he'd be this year and he said something to the effect of 'they've' been working on his technique to make him better and to avoid injury. It would appear whoever 'they' were should've left it alone. I saw one play yesterday where Floyd had a bead on Rapelisburger and for some reason Floyd jumped in the air right before hitting him. Ben simply stepped to his left (I think it was) and Floyd went right by. It was like seeing someone in bball being juked by Charles Barkley. It shouldn't happen.

Floyd didn't get the sacks, but he was in the backfield a handful of times and was excellent in run and pass protection. While the sacks haven't been there, sometimes they come in chunks and even without the sacks he's been good. There is more to being an OLB than pure sacks and we saw enough flashes last year that people making/calling him busts are just being ignorant of facts (in addition to the fact that he's actually been a good player this year without the sacks). That said, to be elite, the sacks need to be there and he has the talent...lets see what happens.

By the way, my post wasn't really addressing your point and I do agree with you that Floyd should have had Ben. A lot of great players have not brought Ben down over the years though. He is a unique QB in how difficult he is to bring down. There were another couple plays where he had a shot for a sack as well and didn't close appropriately (part of that I think goes back to how difficult Ben is to bring down).

I think it will take him at least another year to get to the weight and strength he needs to excel in pass rush. He will get sacks for us this year, at least as many as he had last year. We've played the Falcons, Bucs, and Steelers. In two of those games he was largely used in coverage. That won't be the case against the teams we'll see later in the season. One thing he must do is get off the snap quicker. Too often he's the last man moving forward.
