Is anyone done caring about 2017? It's going to be hard to have anything to look forward to this year!

Haha. Funny you should say that. I'm still of the mindset that 'Bears football is Bears football'. I'd still watch them if they were 0 and whatever...just because I spend the other 8-9 months of the year waiting for them to play again. Yeah it's been awhile since we've seen anything resembling a winning record but I still always hope that some miracle will occur. Until yesterday I had some glimmer of optimism that the other three teams in the division were making it easier for Chicago to stay in it. That was ... until yesterday and they made Hundley look Rodgers-ish.

In the meantime, there will be others here who will start cheering for the tank games so to get better draft picks next Spring. I myself will bite my tongue and keep watching...hoping...for one more win.

We probably had some misguided expectations coming into Fox's 3rd year after we drafted Trubisky. This was a year we never should've expected anything more than 5-6 wins, and we are now on that pace.

I want to see improvement from Trubisky and no major injuries the rest of the way. I would like to Shaheen play a bigger role in pass catching, and would like to see Cohen used more (2 touches last game).

On defense, let's see what Bullard can do with more playing time. Let the younger guys get more playing time even if it means growing pains.

At this point, I am fine either way with wins or losses, I will always be rooting for them to win, but it will not kill me if they lose knowing that we will get a better pick and more than likely a new coach and OC.

Agreed. After Sunday's debacle it's pretty clear we are out of any playoff contention. I will always watch hoping for a win. Now, I'm also gonna be looking to see how the coaches and team go about laying the groundwork for a run next year. It is still Bears' football and I will tune in every week.

The last part is me, but not tanking. At this point (actually it was straight up before the season started) the Bears are not good enough to be in the playoffs. They are still several pieces away. Winning too much will hurt the team in terms of draft picks. And I will continue to believe this until they manage to have multiple picks in a row who look good. This past draft might be one of our better drafts in a long time. But make no mistake, being 9-7 and getting crushed in a wild card game hurts the team far more than simply being 5-11 and getting a better pick.

BTW - I don't think any Bears fan wants to see a complete tank job. I just would like to see them do great, show promise, and barely lose.

I think you're right.

And losing will make it easier to bounce Fox & co.

It really sounds like many of us are in that same boat. I want to leave no doubt in Pace's mind that Fox & Co. are not the right team to lead Tru and the rest of the team going forward.

My perfect scenario...

1. Lose to Lions at home. Don't care if it's close or not. Another loss to a division rival at home bodes poorly for Fox. 3-7

2. Lose close to the Eagles. Have Tru make it a game. I'd love to win this, but I think the Eagles are substantially better than the Bears. 3-8

3. Lose to SF at home. Again, a low point of a bad team beating us. 3-9

4. Beat the Bengals. They are not that great, and we need a win. Tru needs wins. It can't be all bad. 4-9

5. Lose to Lions. I'd like to win this one...but I think they are the better team. They should win at home. 4-10

6. Lose to the Browns in Chicago. I read where Hue's only wins w. the Browns have come on X-Mas eve. If it happens again, we lose to another bad team and Fox is a goner. 4-11

7. Beat the Vikings. End of a high note. All on Tru. But, we probably lose. 5-11

The reality

1. Win 4-6

2. Lose 4-7

3. Win 5-7

4. Win 6-7

5. Lose 6-8

6. Win 7-8

7. Lose 7-9

Should still be bad enough to drop Fox...but it worries me somehow he'll con 'em into another year.

You know me...I'm all in until the end. Although we differ on the opinion of the importance of draft position and how we should get there, I know you and all other true fans want what's best for the team.

Although I have to admit I'm surprised you softened your stance on this year's draft class.

Trubisky - still has a lot to prove as the teams #1 pick AND the picks he cost to get.

Shaheen - still...waiting

Jackson - He's from Alabama so I'm conditioned to love him

Cohen - Meh...came out like gangbusters but the 'human joy stick' has worn out his luster (IMHO)

Morgan - I assume he's on the PS?

I know I'm in the minority but I'd still like to see Fox around for at least one more year. Yes I'm the same guy who loved Lovie so maybe that's my affliction but to me Fox is a good solid coach. He may make some questionable calls during the game but I don't know that we can lay ALL the issues at his feet. Considering how young the team is and diverse with all the different people that have come in through FA and trades they are still trying, for the most part, to win. I don't sense the team has given up on him like the Giants have with Macadoo (sp?) or the Rams did last year with Fisher. I suspect if Loggains were gone then we might see better things from at least the offense. To me that would be a hallmark move for Fox to make right now; that is replace Dowell with someone better. I have to believe behind the scenes the players aren't happy with what they're seeing on the offensive side of the ball.

Part of why I believe this (about Fox) is that despite the defense looking like garbage last weekend, they are still rated in the top 10 in many categories and we know Fangio is a good coach.

It's only softened because Trubisky's accuracy has been truly enlightening. He will face hurdles as a rookie, and even in the next year or so, but there is no mistaking how he can thread the needle. That gives me hope. On top of that, Jackson appears to be a great find. Like you, I've been asking for Alabama defensive players for several years. I don't really understand the infatuation with small school guys. Give me power conferences all the way. And as for Cohen, I think he's just been scouted by other teams, and Low-Gains is not creative enough (similar to predecessors) to use his weapons effectively.

I truly believe an offensive mind that can adjust during the game is capable of exploiting defensive issues with the weapons available (provided the weapons are good). There is no reason whatsoever that double-TE formations haven't been used, particularly when both guys are supposed to be pretty physical blockers. Furthermore, I don't understand why play-actions and roll-outs haven't been used a lot more considering Trubisky's mobility.

Problem with that scenario is no offensive guy worth a damn will come work for a lame-duck HC. Fox would get one more year in your scenario to turn things around, and based on this year, it would be nearly all defense. Same problem Lovie had. Let's say he goes 9-7, and the defense looks just good enough to make the team competitive, but the offense is bad enough that the Bears are never really a threat. Unless there is a truly transcendent player on defense, the overall team treads water around .500, which is just enough to keep a HC.

No thanks.

Fox is playing checkers still... It wins some of the time against bad teams. Rarely against quality.

The team hasn't given up on him. At least not yet. But, it's not good enough. It's 3 years with not enough to show for it other than constantly looking like he was out-coached regardless of talent level.

I'd love to see him bounced now, give Fangio a shot at HC, let Loggains do what he wants and let Donnatel coach the D. At least we'd have almost half a season to see if there's something there. We are just wasting time w/ Fox.

My perfect/realistic scenario:

1. Lose to Lions. 21-24, Trubisky throws for 250+ and 2TDs. (3-7)

2. Lose to Eagles. 24-27, Trubisky lights it up and the D keeps the game managed. (3-8)

3. Win vs SF. 35-14. Seems like a given. Balanced offense and defense dominates. (4-8)

4. Lose to Bengals. 21-28. AJ Green torches Kyle Fuller and puts to rest any thought of offering him a good contract. (4-9)

5. Lose to Lions. 21-24. Game looks almost identical to the first go around, and proves Fox doesn't adjust. Rumblings about firing grow. (4-10)

6. Win vs Browns. 30-24. The game is far too close, but they're the Browns. Nail in the coffin. (5-10)

7. Lose to Vikings. 14-31. The offense is in shambles, the team has no energy, and it's clear Trubisky needs A. Help on the OL, B. A better coaching staff to guide his future. (5-11)

with everyone talking about dumping the coaching staff, who are you replacing them with?

I know it sounds cliche, but I want one of the following:

1. Gruden-Throw the bank at him. He's a known offensive guru and QB guru.

2. Harbaugh-He has the type of energy that invigorates a franchise.

3. McDaniels-He learned under the best all time, and would help Trubisky immensely.

1. gruden: HIGHLY doubtful he would come to chicago even if he comes out at all and he is happy announcing. plus his overall coaching skills (i will concede 'probably' good with a qb and offense) are over rated in my opinion. would want near complete control and cause problems for our GM. i'm not sure what his locker room contribution would be either. i think IF he coaches again it will be on one of the coasts.

that said, who does he bring into chicago as coaching staff? we in all probability lose fangio on defense. that limits us to finding a coach who will work in the type of scheme we have drafted for over the last 3 years. offensive coach?

2. hardhead: this guy i do NOT want in chicago. he is certifiably nuts. we don't need the drama of this guy with a young up and coming team.

who would HE bring to chicago as a coaching staff? who would put up with him? how would a sane GM work with this guy?

3. mcdaniels: i guess i don't know anything about him.

all need to remember this, if we change horses in mid stream we are basically starting over again. so add another 3 years minimum to our rebuild.

1. Gruden - He's been gone too long - no

2. Harbaugh - He will implode in 3 to 4 years - no

3. McDaniels - I was interested in him until I found he will want his own GM (like Belichick) which would mean we are staring over from scratch - no.

My opinion, for what it is worth, hire Fangio as HC.

I like the way our defense is progressing and I wouldn't be surprised to see him offered a HC gig somewhere in 2018, and if we change HC the new HC would probably want his own DC.

By hiring Fangio as HC (I know many wanted an offensive guru as HC) we retain some continuity. He has enough of a solid rep around the league I have to believe he could attract a good group of coaches to come in and get this team straightened out.

My vote is for one more year. Only change would be to hire an offensive consultant to work directly with Loggains.

Loggains has to go and there in lies your problem. No offensive coordinator is going to come here to work for a lame-duck head coach.

You're better off to clean house now.
