Khalil Mack NFC DPOM

Chicago Bears linebacker Khalil Mack was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month after completely wrecking the Buccaneers o-line play after play Sunday. The defensive end once again stuffed the stat sheet, compiling four tackles, one sack, one QB hit, one tackle for loss, one pass defended, and a forced fumble. His play was even more impressive than the numbers. Mack discombobulated the entire Bucs offense with unrelenting pressure. The Defensive Player of the Year frontrunner is worth every penny for the NFC North-leading Bears.

I don't think we had tese detailed stats when the Greatest D on Earth was having so much fun in '85. It would be interesting to get their take on the present group.

The Bears had a bunch of HOFers on that defense, and it is possible that Mack is better than all of them.

Mack is better than any player on the 85 defense, but in terms of impacting a game, he is probably tied with Butkis. Mack is obviously the superior athlete, but if you compare players from different eras, I think the metric of how they affected the game is the fairest way.

He absolutely deserves this award but they are missing the boat with the talent that Mack has around him on our defense.  What happened against Tampa was not just Mack.  We know that but I think that will become more obvious to the media later in the year.  The bellwether for this D will be when we play the Patriots in a couple weeks.  Ruin Brady's day and the entire NFL will take notice.

Wonder if Gruden is thinking "what did I do???"  that or the Raiders FO is thinking it.  He has been a human wrecking ball from the first game with the Bears on.  His play elevates the play of his teammates.  Unless the Raiders strike gold with the picks we gave them we win this trade hands down.

The Mack trade will go down as one of the most pivotal trades the NFL has seen.  His ability to make everyone better is akin to Peyton Manning going to the Broncos.

Many on this site have clamored for more pass rush.  See how getting the best affects the rest now?

Mack has made Trubisky and Nagy better, as well, by giving them the confidence that the D can hold the line.

This team may be a contender a year sooner than we all hoped.  All while staying in great cap shape and having a young roster.

Well done Pace!  I want to throw out a side shout out to John Fox for establishing a great locker room and establishing strong base.  And without him, Fangio never comes here...

Second that, and while Fox's 3 seasons with the Bears become frustrating from a wins/losses, and ultra conservative play style.  He took us the first step from an NFL joke and locker room mess, to a team that while it didn't show on the score board was no longer a pushover doormat of the NFL.  It's easy to miss his role in turning the Bears around.  The Bears were a lifeless shell when he took over.  And I agree we wouldn't have gotten either Vic or Gase were it not for Fox.   Were it not for what Fox did for this team it's highly possible we don't land Naggy, and retain Vic.  We had an old, slow, uninspired/uninterested team under Trestman.  We now have one of the youngest rosters and an ascending team.  If Pace and Naggy can bring a championship to Chicago they will own this town.
