Peace one other item i forgot to mention. this offseason we NEED a good kicker as a top priority. parkey (or butter) just is not reliable. the miss last night could have cost us big time. it would have put us up by 4 points if the rams had scored late. Stinger226
I think this is a best choice to replace. He has played as well as anyone at slot corner all year but will be doable overall. Better than Prince, Fuller, or Jackson getting injured.Probably even Amos considering we have no depth at S. We have signed Marcus Williams to replace him on the roster but will definitely see McManis starting until further notice. Other options are Tolliver. I do think he's worth resigning because of his play when healthy. If we can keep him for a reasonable price I think it'd be worth it. But then again McManis has played well for us, it's his opportunity to step up. Next man up.

Mongo3451
One thing we will have to remember on every team building thread we have, is that we are now a place that free agents REALLY want to come. Teams in the window get a price break on FA's for a chance at glory.

We have Coward behind Massie,, so that would be an easy transition but little depth behind Calalhan and Amos. Hopefully we can get favorable contracts from them going forward, I suspect they will want to stay here.

Hopefully we can get favorable contracts from them going forward, I suspect they will want to stay here. The next two years will be where we see the biggest cap % taken up by Mack's deal. In that time frame we have players who make significant contributions like Floyd 1yr left, Bullard 1yr left, Robertson-Harris (FA but will be relatively cheap), Bilal Nichols 3yr, James Daniels 3 yr, Jordan Howard 1yr, Tarik Cohen 2yr, Anthony Miller 3yr , Eddie Jackson 2yr, Adam Shaheen 2yr, Roquan Smith 3yr. On top of that we are set at LT with Leno 3yr $9-10mil, NT Goldman 4yr $10-11mil, DE Hicks 3yr $10-12mil. The big piece to figure out will be Trubisky. Trevathan might have one more year here but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a 1-2yr extension to sort of sync him up with when Roquan gets his new deal. In the near term, 2019/2020 we are ok because of all the young talent. In 2021, the first year of Trubisky's new deal, we will have be prepared to somewhat reload the roster. Pace has 3 drafts to get that done. Pace has opened a good playoff window in just Trubisky's second season.

The fifth-year salary for a top-10 pick is equal to the transition tender at the player’s position during his fourth season. So, because the transition tag for quarterbacks this year was $20.922MM, we already know that Mariota’s fifth-year option will be worth that amount." If Mariota is seeing $21mil we have to expect Mitch's 5th year will be around $23mil. The Kirk Cousins effect will hit QB salaries this offseason and I think teams will be a bit less exuberant when writing these checks. adam
There is over $20M tied up in White, Sims, Massie, and Acho, and most of that could come off the books after this year. Even if Trubisky's cap hit jumps to $25M in his 5th year, the $20M would easily cover the difference in his pay bump without impacting other parts of the roster. If Long is still dealing with injuries after next season, cutting him would save another $8M and $2M for Parkey. They also project the cap to go up around $10-12M per year, from $177M this year to $187-191M next year, and another $10M to $200M by 2020: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000998860/article/nfl-salary-cap-for-2019-projected-at-187m1911m Just that $10M bump would allow us to re-sign Amos/Callahan without any impacts to the cap/roster this year. For me the biggest dead weight on the roster is White with Sims a close second. Long might fall in that category if he can't stay healthy, even though when he plays, he is worth it. Massie and Acho are getting up there to where it would be hard to justify keeping them around for their salaries. So the way I see it, we will be able to keep the core group of players intact for another 3 years without cap issues, 2021-2022 seems like it will be the point where they will have to make some tough decisions. No doubt about it now, White is definitely gone, Sims also it out the door.. Massie and Acho are big ifs. Long, I think, will be back, but I don't know how much he can contribute. Love Long, but he just gets too dinged.
Stinger226
Next year we have 26 million if we just cut Sims. Enough money to bring back Amos and Callahan. I would say Long comes back but they will have someone in line to take his pace because of his injury history. Along the line we have Sowell, Coward, and Willie Beavers to take Massies place. They are all signed for next year(Beavers is on the PS). With Long back we still have need a backup which may be Wizzman comes back but that would be cheap. Also Dejoin Allen is on the PS, he may be a starter after next year for Long. I think they are grooming him to possibly be a starter, I heard they like him but needed to put on weight and get stronger. We also need to resign Lynch for a backup which will have a low salary. I think next year that Nall could get boosted to take Howards place and they trade him at the draft for a low round pick.(we dont have a 6th, that may get it done) The draft will get us some needed depth at S and OL, and maybe another OLB. They could also grab a RB or CB, although we have 4 CBs on the PS plus Tolliver, so the backups may come from that group.

Was wondering if we should edit this to include status checks on Jackson and Lynch? Haven’t heard whether Callahan will be ready for the post-season(?). But thankfully McManis (as MadLith pointed out) is a good option as back up. Looked solid against GB. Speaking of ‘next man up’ I saw that Deon Bush will be filling in for Jackson while he recuperates. I’m intrigued by seeing Bush play. Always wondered how he would work out. Seemed like a decent player out of Miami. Is a big Safety like Jackson. Just curious how rangy he is. Good time to test him out with the next two games. ASHKUM BEAR
He has started before, as I recall you didn't notice him. In a way, that is a good thing because he wasn't making mistakes. That is all we need is mistake free and the rest will be bonuses.
