I think we keep 6 WRs 4 RBs, and 4 TEs. Patterson would be listed as a KR unless Ridley doesnt make the 53 roster. FB Burton was let go this offseason. The fact we had someone fill a roster spot there last year means Nagy isn't totally opposed to it, and in any case Nall would be a part-timer there. I'm just saying if we see Nall do a little bit of work outside the RB position then to me that's an indication they are thinking about keeping him around. OTOH if Nall's a pure RB then maybe it's more likely we go with the top 3 RBs and perhaps we keep Whyte around for special teams. It's just that Patterson, who is a lock for the 53, makes that a redundant position. I just can't see keeping two KR specialists on the 53. We have Miller and Cohen who can fill in there as needed. In this scenario I think both Whyte and Nall end up on the practice squad.
Stinger226
I was reading that Whyte will be a gunner on STs and not a returner. I think last year when we had Mizzel on the roster instead of Nall, that was a tell tale sign of what Nagy values. We now have 2 3 down type backs in Davis and Montgomery which also diminishes the need to have Nall around. I think if we need a FB in any kind of set they would use one of the TEs instead of a RB. Alaskan Grizzly
Saw a post-training camp video from today (below). Some notable items: Trubiksy threw an INT to Mack. That could be a good and bad thing. Bad that Mitch is throwing INTs but good because he did it against one of the top rated defenses last year and against one of the all time greats. Marvin Hall (13) was highlighted a fair amount. And it looks like Javon Wims (83) is getting some time with the 1s. And Nall (35) is catching out of the backfield. AZ54
Now that the pads are on there are a lot of good things being said about Montgomery. He pushed the pile into the endzone today, with his Oline joining in. He also ran some nice routes and made at least one over the shoulder catch displaying some natural hands for catching a football. It looks like Nagy got the chess piece he wanted this offseason. Really chess pieces because Davis has reportedly looked good as well. Helfrich not so hot about Trubisky, real positive about Montgomery. Plus "I don't think there's ever been a defense like this". https://www.chicagobears.com/video/helfrich-on-david-montgomery-he-s-a-perfectionist

Goes by the handle of Da Windy City (or DWC) productions. Unfortunately I don’t know his name. But he was at training camp yesterday (?) or Thursday and said Trubisky was mediocre at best. Threw a pick to HHCD and several over and under throws. Kept using the word ‘inconsistent’ to describe Mitch. But did point out that Trubisky is practicing against one of the best defenses in the league. He said not even Brady or Brees or Rodgers have to do that so...maybe that’s something to consider (?) ...we hope.

Last year it was all about him learning a new complex offense and from a bad first four games he found his way into the Pro Bowl as an alternate. This year he knows the offense much better and started out good in camp then faded a bit. I do know this...since HHCD has been back on the field Mitch hasn't played as well. I don't know which way to read that but it is interesting.
Stinger226
He is going against the best defense in the league and D is always a quicker starter at the beginning of the year. If by the end of the preseason then we should worry. Not now.
ASHKUM BEAR
At least we are not reading reports that everyone is tearing it up and we are a lock to win the superbowl. I would be more worried about that. TC is the time to find problems and to correct them.
Bill
Has anyone read or heard how the offense line is doing so far in camp?

Nobody is able to block Mack one-on-one. Dline players are often in the backfield making plays. Yet still the Oline is blocking well enough for Trubisky to often throw TDs, for Montgomery, Cohen, and Davis to make some splash runs. To be fair your RBs are also making some occasional big plays in the passing game as well. It's early and against this defense it's hard to know. Kyle Long has supposedly looked very very good. Hopefully his body can hold up but I have read a lot of nice things about him. James Daniels has been snapping nicely (had his first bad snap yesterday). Outside of that, the Dline has been very disruptive...not sure if that is a knock against our oline or more of a testament for how strong the Defense is. Interesting experiment here with Montgomery being the slow but quick cutting RB while Whyte is pure straight line speed. Last year it was Nall, who is not that fast, struggling making cuts. Reportedly he worked on his agility this offseason. As we get into preseason 3rd/4th strings I expect Whyte will make a similar big play impact as Nall did last year but again it might not be enough to make the 53. There are more observations at the link. From Dan DeYoung on Twitter...https://twitter.com/DanDeYoung80 More 3. I realized today that Kerrith Whyte Jr. really hasn't done anything that makes me think he deserves a roster spot. Ryan Nall has honestly looked much better so far. We will see when preseason starts if he turns it on. #bears

Alaskan Grizzly
Prince vs. Wims: Apparently Amukamura and Wims had a dust up recently in camp. Link of first hand account below (no video of fight). But first some takeaways: - agree with DWC that Wims is dumb for hitting Prince on the helmet as a WR and vying for a starting spot. But it is evidence that Wims is taking this seriously. - this is ‘normal’ behavior at camp so no real need for alarm - sounds like Nagy nipped in the bud rather quickly and effectively (very much unlike Trestman a few years back).
