Kicker Battle - Elliott Fry waived, Pineiro's job to lose

Gotta think this is more about the contract they signed Pineiro to than anything right? Neither Pineiro or Fry outperformed the other.

I agree that the team is still looking for someone to fill the role and this isn’t over yet.

In other news; did you see the link about Cedric Benson dying in a motorcycle crash last night?  Sad for sure.

Pineiro has a bigger leg and has worked with the kicking coach. I think they like his potential. He's on a rookie contract. I believe they don't owe the Raiders a 7th round pick unless he plays in the 1st 5 games.

Peace

For all the team has done to find a kicker I don't think (within reason) that compensation would be the deciding factor.   In fact we kept the kicker who will likely cost us a 7th Rd pick.  If they were even we could have kept Fry and our 7th Rd pick.  I say within reason because we weren't giving up a 4th Rd pick for a kicker.  That's where we've draft Eddie Jackson, Cohen, and now Ridley so there is too much value there.

It seems to me the kicking coach has been able to work with Pineiro and improve his consistency.  While Fry might have been the more accurate kicker in the near term I think they were close enough, and with Pineiro improving, that they went with the upside.  Given the cold weather conditions he'll be kicking in that is where the stronger leg matters because the ball won't travel as far.   Add in the fact that there won't be any kick returns to deal with.

Eddy sure looked good against the Colts, 3-3 on XP's and was 2-2 on FG's and nailed a 58-yarder (beating Lloyd by 3 yards :) ).

All we need is a guy that can reliably make reasonable distance kicks and every now and then nail some longer ones. Hopefully, he has another strong showing next week. His confidence has to be at an all-time high after that 58-yarder.
