Probably a bad time to do this after a bad game but I have a lot of free time in Thailand.

First of all as much as Nagy and Pace has a bad year but there not going anywhere.  So trying to create that chaos is a waste of time.

For 2020 we have 12.5 in cap space.

1. Cut Long saves us 8 mil. The rest of the line isn't going anywhere cap hits would be terrible for them.

2. At WR give  ARob a new contract to reduce this years cap hit of 13 mil. ( reduce cap hit to 9 this year.)Cut Gabriel 4.5 , and Patterson to save 5 mil

3. Floyd is not a pass rusher but can play football.  Due a contract of say 3 year= 27 mil with only 10 guaranteed.  Saves 4 mil..

4. Cut Prince to save 8 mil.

5. Get rid of Ben B and Shaheen save 2.7 mil. Go to Burton and redo his contract (7.5 if we cut him). It could be said injuries derailed this year. ) he is guaranteed 8 mil over the next 2 seasons.  Give him a third year and guarantee 12 and pay 6 mil this year and next with  team option in year 3. Save 2.5 each of next 2 years. Comes back healthy to compete.  Option 2) cut and lose 7.5 mil.

6. Resign these free agents RRH, Holtz, Hoersted, AAnderson , N. William's, Bush,  Urbin , kwit, KPL . total cap hit 20 mil.

7. They suggest caps goes up 8 mil

Total cap space  48.7  est. Not sure of dead money carry over

I think we can sign one big contract TE or EDGE. Plus get a backup QB. Mariota at 1 year 14 mil.

OPTION 2 cut MT and save 9 mil , go get Bridgewater at 4 year 22 a year. (Pace won't let that happen. )

Offense

QB options: MT stays bring in Mariota to have option if MT fails. Draft a late round rookie.

Option 2: Cut MT, Pay Bridgewater 4 year 90 mil. Bring back Bray and draft a late round pick.

Option3: keep MT , bring in Keenum at 6 mil and draft a QB at 2) 45, haven't read much on draft but Matt Miller's big board has Justin Love as the 43rd best player so I will use that for now.

At RB Mongomery will play better as the oline goes. Cohen is still under contract and they keep Nall.  ( brings in 1 UDFA)

OL:  Long is gone,  Bars- Coward- Lucas compete with Massie and Leno.  We draft a OT and IOL. . We have to much invested in oline to pay in free agency.

TE: we resign Holtz and Hoested.  Burton comes back on a restructured contact .Raymond comes off the practice squad and we draft one.

WR: We redo a contract with ARob, let go of Patterson and Gabriel.  Miller , Wims and Ridley move up the depth chart. We draft one.

Defense: We let Trevathan and  HaHa  hit free agency.  Cut Prince . Resign Kwit , Bush,  RRH , N. Williams, A Andersen, Urban and KPL.

DB Tolliver takes over for Prince, Bush takes over for HaHa, Shelley and Skine stay. We get one in Free agency and draft one.

ILB:  resign KPL, Kwit takes over for Trevathan, Woods moves up depth chart. Smith comes back healthy.

OLB; Mack and Floyd stays starters, we let Lynch be gone. James Slaughter move up the depth chart , we draft one.

DLINE;  Hicks come back healthy, Nichols gets back to progressing after being bothered by injuries.  Resign Urbin, N. Williams, A . Anderson's and RRH.  Goldman is the steady one.

Our defense will have some changes and will remain good not be great.

Fire Helfrich and promote Childress to OC.  Childress can bring a much needed level head to the game plan.  We know Nagy is ultimately the OC, but Childress can be the balance as Helfrich is likely the opposite.

Fire Pagano.  The discipline was not there.  Pagano has always been known as a players coach and it shows in our lack of discipline.  He's been known to be a ballsy play caller and it really  looked like he neutered our defense.  Dream scenario for replacement is Rivera.  Unfortunately, he'll be an HC again, but maybe we talk him into a couple of years at a chance of a Superbowl.

Cut Long, Gabriel, Shaheen and Prince.  Let Ha Ha and Trevathon walk.

Extend Patterson and Robinson as they were our best playmakers this year.

Trade Leno to Washington for Trent Williams.  Will have to eat some of Leno's contract but who really cares when you get this massive upgrade.

Rehab or cut Burton.  I wouldn't extend him one week with all the money he's already stolen from us.  Also, Patterson is as big and physical as any of our TE's and waaaay more athletic.  Why is he not getting time at that position?  He would be winning matchups all over the field.

Draft a mauler of an OG, an athletic TE, a pass rush specialist, a burner of a WR, a DL and a couple of DB's.

Sign Mariotta and cut Chase Daniels.

I agree with all this except trading Leno simply because no one is going to trade for him. I love the idea of Childress as OC and Rivera as DC but Chico will be a head coach again next year.

Peace

Cutting Trubisky is not an option. He will have a cap hit of $7.9M on the roster or a $17.1M cap hit in dead money if cut. So he will be on the roster or traded.

I've crunched these numbers a few times and it will solely depend on if they intend to use their excess from this year, next year. If they do, there will be several one-year deals or front-loaded contracts because they would have to get back to the real cap in 2021. So I don't know how far they will dip into that.

Before any cuts, the team starts with $12.46M in cap space for 2020. Based on the sheer size of the salaries, the following guys have to go:
1. Floyd - $13.2M savings, no dead money (I personally don't want him back at any price - we need a real pass threat on the opposite side from Mack)
2. Long - $8.1M savings, $1.5M dead money (I assume he will retire, he is beat up, so this is an easy one)
3. Amukamara - $8M savings, $1M dead money (He has clearly lost a step, and is a huge hole on the defense)
4. Gabriel - $4.5M savings, $2M dead money (Miller, Wims, and Ridley can easily replace his production)
5. Patterson - $5.25M savings, 500k dead money (this would save some money, but Patterson has been one of the bright spots on the team, I would actually considering signing him long term)
6. Shaheen - $1.27M savings, 609k dead money (this guy can't leave the team fast enough, what a freaking bust)
7. Braunecker - $1.5M savings, 150k dead money (I would rather keep Holtz and Horsted than this guy for roughly the same price)
8. O'Donnell - $1.75M savings, 100k dead money (He has been wildly inconsistent with some very untimely bad kicks, he is 23rd in average, which is below league average).

This would give us $56M in cap space, needing a starting QB, OLB, ILB, RG, CB, TE, S and P.  If we can address 3 in the draft, the rest have to come from Free Agency. That would be 5 free agent signings for starters, and we would still need a bunch of subs.

I would love to see a shakeup on the O-Line. It has to be up there in priority. QB, TE, and O-Line, then Edge, CB, and S.

Patterson has played well but if you consider the number of plays he has been in on , I think it's a luxury to have him . Now maybe a user friendly contract extension for a cheaper price would work. The oline needs a makeover but do you honestly see us  cutting Massie and Leno with their dead money? I doubt it. So Coward- taking over for Massie , bring in a high pick to play RG and groom Bars to take over for Leno maybe as soon as this year. This is the best scenario I could hope for. Floyd at the current price isn't worth it but mixing in him with a new pass rusher and getting him at a fair price, I think would work out. Do you see a rookie stepping in and playing starter minutes? I doubt it but maybe we get lucky in the draft. We could use the 13 mil to sign a free agent that might get us a good player that could russ the passer.  They always get paid a lot in free agency.

I"m not sure Bars at LT is a best case scenario.  He's a bit too slow to be out on an island in the NFL IMO.  A little preseason work out there against 3rd stringers isn't enough to change my mind.  He'd be serviceable as a backup, and likely a better fit at RT.  Besides that, we really need help inside and that's where his best fit is.   Round peg meet round hole.

IMO fixing the interior of the Oline is far more important for both the running game and passing game.  Love him or hate him we have a very mobile QB who can evade the edge rushers who get past Massie or Leno, as long as he can step up and get outside the pocket. It's the inside rushers like Kenny Clark that killed so many plays this year.   I'd like to see Montgomery running off some of these pancake blocks inside...

Oh yeah, Patterson doesn't get enough touches to warrant more than he makes now. They probably should use him more, but you are right that he is a luxury at this point.

I don't know what to do on the O-Line. The guys we have need to play better, which is a huge understatement. Ultimately besides RG, they will probably go into 2020 with the same line.

I have just grown tired of waiting for Floyd to do something. Watch a whole game of his some time. He gets manhandled by TEs, RBs, etc, he is a waste of a roster spot. A league minimum guy can do what he has done for the Bears opposite of Mack. So I would like to see an upgrade there using some of his salary. There are better options out there. It might not be a rookie, but there should be some free agent Edge players available. We don't need another Mack, we just need someone who can be a threat from time to time. Floyd is not that guy.

Agreed on strength inside.  My hope is to get a big nasty in the second round.  I want to see tape on second level effort.  That's something our guys are not getting done.

I'll go back and watch game tape on Floyd.  I know he is not good at the rush but thought he contributed in other ways.  As far as paying him the 13 mil , probably better options in free agency for less money.

It's some ugly tape. If he gets engaged by an Offensive Lineman, the play is basically over for him. He was also getting manhandled by TEs consistently. No excuse, he had every opportunity to dominate across from Mack and couldn't do anything.

Yet he can get off these blocks to defend the run all day long.  He just doesn't have enough strength to hold up as he works around a blocker.
