Got to get Calvin Throckmorton (OT, Oregon) for the name alone.

Peace

Bears sign Yale OL Dieter Eiselen and LSU OL Badara Traore. Also Artavis Pierce, RB, Oregon State and Ahmad Wagner, TE, Kentucky.

Anthony Gordon to the Seahawks, though there’s some question as to whether it’s final.

This Artavis Pierce has some good burst to his game.  He doesn't have the jump cuts you look for and there isn't a lot of power to his game but I could see him growing into a role as the 3rd RB or potentially 2nd down the road depending on his hands.

Why would any UDFA TE prefer to come here?

Rashad Smith sure looks like a Safety to me.  He's been playing ILB and looks decent in the role both in run support and coverage but he's way too small for the NFL.  He seems to have good speed but I can't find anything for a forty  time.  This year with prospects like this they had no Pro Days to help them.  We'll see if the Bears ask him to bulk up for ILB.

A little background on him...

Artavious Pierce RB -Oregon St

5'10" 207  4.45 speed.

I thought we would see a few decent RB prospects sign. Maybe Ryan Nall helped him decide to sign with the Bears. Seems like a decent runner with good long speed but not much wiggle. Only started one year, so has more to learn in concepts. Overall, he has a good chance if he can learn quick.

I hope they sign another RB. Tape on Pierce looks but like more options.

I will say Pace hits on more later rounds than he misses.  Seem to be good with UDFAs to at finding a gem or 2.

We are pretty thin at LB, so I think Mack sticks to at least the PS. With extra motivation from his brother, you never know, he may make the 53-man. That will be a fun story to watch.

Pierce has a real chance to make the roster in a battle with Nall.

Apparently we signed this guy.   We've had big powerful men before who never made it because they didn't have the foot speed.  Granted this is a highlight film but I'm surprised at how well this guy mirrors some of the DTs, and how quickly he adjusts to pick up stunts.  We'll see what Castillo can do with him.

Does he put someone on their ass on every play? How did this guy go undrafted?

Just watched the video.  He has two good qualities, strength and mean streak. After that, he has no speed and the lateral agility of Frankenstein's monster.  Unless they can unlock his hips, he'll be absolutely useless.

He definitely needs to work on his flexibility, but that can be done. He doesn't have much football experience, so he probably just used his size and strength to get by, which won't work in the NFL if you don't have the technique. The good news is you can't teach size and strength, so he has a shot as a developmental guy. Start on the PS for a year or two and then make the roster.

I still like how he finishes his blocks.

Definitely love the mauler mentality.  NFL defensive linemen will steal his lunch money though.  He has a good two years of work to do before he can even make a practice squad, IMO.

I read a story about him and I think he was an Olympic weight lifter and played Rugby.  Strong and smart.  He got into football in 2016 and all he did in South Africa was watch games and video tape about football.  If any UDFAs make it he's the one.  Yale isn't bigtime football but he dominated at that level.  He is ahead of the curb because of his strength.  Most rookies have to get stronger, he is already there. He says the most important thing about football is to study tape.  I wouldn't doubt he makes the PS this yr and he's on a fast track.
