DABEARSDABOMB
He is eligible to return in week 4 (I think) - Presume Santos will be kicking for us the 1st few weeks, unless they plan to sign someone else. Was interesting how they made all of these moves (cut Cairo but knowing Piniero was going to go on IR). Must have been a cap / flexibility reason for doing it the way they did. adam
Yeah, Pineiro is too injury prone to be a kicker. Groin injuries for a kicker are terrible and never really go away. I would just dump him and move on.
BearFan2000
Agree he's shown little durability regardless of whether he can or can't be a good kicker, if he can't be depended on to stay healthy it's best to look elsewhere. The search for a dependable long term kicker continues. Same story, new year.

He was hurt with the Raiders and spent an entire year on IR, then was hurt on and off all of last year. Even though he didn't miss a game, he only made one FG longer than 36 yards from Week 5-17, and had 4 weeks where he either didn't attempt or didn't make a FG. After the Parkey thing, you would think Pace would have made this a priority to fix. To me, Pineiro is not the answer.
BearFan2000
Santos looked solid on his kicks. I know its a dome and it's not like he had any really long attempts. Maybe the Pinero IR thing is a blessing in disguise. Here's hoping Santos performs well enough to get us by till we find that long term solution. adam
Santos kicked for Nagy before, and if he is capable of making 45 yarders at Soldier Field, then I think we will be ok. I don't understand why the team is so faithful to Pineiro. He had an entire offseason to get healthy. He has spent more games on IR than he has played in for his career. That is a huge red flag for kickers. If you have recurring injuries to any part of your lower body, that is the kiss of death for kickers. Rarely do they ever fully recover and reinjury is so high, they can't be counted on.
