Realistic Options at #20 (2021 Draft)

There are 10-15 names that have a very low chance of being available at #20, which makes it a little easier to see who may be there at #10. However, from a need perspective, that takes away Lawrence, Wilson, Fields (for QBs), Sewell and Slater (OT), and Smith, Waddle, Chase (WR). That is 8 right there without thinking much. Literally our top needs will be heavily selected in the top 15 (yay Pace!).

As far as QBs go, Trey Lance, Mac Jones and Kyle Trask have a chance to be available outside of the top 10, but depending how the combine goes, they may move up or down. Depending on how you view them, some may even be available in the 2nd round.

The team obviously has a need for OT, so someone like Darrisaw (VA Tech) or Cosmi (Texas) should be there.

WR will be a huge need if ARob walks. I would rather pick one up in the 2nd or 3rd than the first.

Depending on what happens with Fuller or Gipson, the Bears may have a hole to fill at CB or S. There should be several of those available at #20.

At the end of the day, it seems like QB, OT, WR, and maybe DB will be who they are targeting at 20. What do you think?

WR is supposed to be a strong class once again.  This has been the case the past few seasons.  I think the Bears can put this down to 2nd or 3rd round.  We found a gem in rd 5, but Mooney is best suited as a 3rd/slot.

Trey Lance

Seriously, what’s the appeal with this guy?  Just because he went to North Dakota State like Wentz?  And in a quick read on him he only played in one game this season and has started a total of 17 games in his career?

And how the hell is Mac Jones in the same tier as him?

People that analyze the draft have Lawrence--Fields--Wilson as the top 3 QBs and to be drafted in the top 10.

The next tear is Lance--Jones--Trash  not necessarily considered first round picks but could be because of the need of so many teams. I only have a little information on QBs and they are hits and misses in the draft. Lance is by most counts the 4th rated QB.

I would say Jones and Trash could be there at 20, not knowing how everyone else rates them. I would say a few of these 6 turn out to be very good, and the rest hit and misses.

Darrishaw is the 2nd rated OT and has a good chance of being there at 20, we need to take him and look in the second for a QB prospect and WR in the third. You can grab a another OT later and resign Ifedi at a cheap price until you can develop one of our prospects.

Mac Jones QB goes 1 pick before Bears every time...  so Trask it is with a trade down. The trade nets a big WR and we take another Irish lineman. 3rd is a big DE/DT to help fill in rotation. NW LB to compete for ILB, playmaking slot WR/KR, a box SS with smarts, aggressive RB with burst. CB w size and another RT prospect.

Round 1 Pick 27 (T.B.): Kyle Trask, QB, Florida (A-)
Round 2 Pick 20: Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame (A)
Round 2 Pick 27 (T.B.): Tamorrion Terry, WR, Florida State (A)
Round 3 Pick 19: Tedarrell Slaton, DT, Florida (A+)
Round 5 Pick 20: Blake Gallagher, ILB, Northwestern (A+)
Round 6 Pick 20: Kadarius Toney, WR, Florida (A+)
Round 6 Pick 34 (COMP): Greg Eisworth, SS, Iowa State (A+)
Round 6 Pick 38 (COMP): Obi Eboh, CB, UCLA (A+)
Round 6 Pick 40 (COMP): Master Teague, RB, Ohio State (A-)
Round 7 Pick 4: Drew Himmelman, OT, Illinois State (A

Toney would replace Patterson and be much better as a WR too. I love that pick. I'm ok with Trask that late because if it doesn't work, its not like a trade up to #2 and passing on 2 HoFers. It is hard to see Trask being worse than Trubisky just based on comparing their college tape. Getting OT early is huge. Overall, I like the draft, especially because there are no reaches and only one small school pick.

Good draft. I'd rather figure a way to get that second OT higher in the draft. However...

  1. Trask is better than Trubisky. Great pick.
  2. Trask would get to throw to a huge, home run threat as well as a familiar target.
  3. Trask would be protected by a stud OT.

Is that so difficult? Why can't the Bears ever do this? Draft a QB and then protect him and surround him with talent. If the year goes on and he's under pressure a lot, guess what? Go with OL again until it's fixed. Why in the world won't this franchise protect the #1 asset, the most important position on the entire team?

My thought was the Bears lose Arob, Hicks, and Massie and have to invest high. Chances are Leno comes back because they cannot start the season with an unknown prospect protecting the blindside so Eichenberg will replace Massie RT for a year.  Foles will start at QB until Trask has a grasp, maybe all year too.

20 Christian Darrisaw OT Virginia Tech

52 Kyle Trask  QB Florida

83. Dyami Brown WR North Carolina

150. Alaric Jackson OT Iowa

181. Robert Rochell CB Central Arkansas

197. Lorenzo Neal DT Purdue

Here is a straight draft using PFN mock draft simulator

Mac Jones was gone at pick 52 and not worth pick 20 to me. IMO

Id love to see some draft projections without trades too.

I was thinking the same thing earlier. What is available with the extra picks? Well, here's a different approach. What if the Bears just decided to maximize Foles and see what he can do?

Your score is: 35508 (GRADE: A-)

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 20: Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virgina Tech (B)
Round 2 Pick 20: Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame (B+)
Round 3 Pick 19: Seth Williams, WR, Auburn (A+)
Round 5 Pick 20: LaBryan Ray, DT/DE, Alabama (A+)
Round 6 Pick 20: Feleipe Franks, QB, Arkansas (A+)
Round 6 Pick 34 (COMP): Jaelan Phillips, DE/OLB, Miami (A+)
Round 6 Pick 38 (COMP): Shawn Davis, FS/SS, Florida (B+)
Round 6 Pick 40 (COMP): Master Teague, RB, Ohio State (A-)
Round 7 Pick 4: Ed Ingram, OG, LSU (A+)

I'd be ecstatic with this draft. Darrisaw is a monster, and Eichenberg slipping to the 2nd would be a steal. Add a weapon on offense, a QB with potential (Jones and Trask gone in 2nd), and two freaky DL prospects, and that's the plan to replace Arob, Hicks, and Massie.

To be honest, I would rather build the foundation now like this and get the first round QB next year.

Well, I can't say I entirely disagree with you.  Its seems that he has all of the tools.  But how likely is it that Pace will draft a 17 game starter after drafting Trubisky?

Most of the more negative reports I've read point to the fact that he was surrounded by superior personnel and he rarely had to get to his second read.

On the other hand, he does seem to have some down field accuracy.  If you want an over the top positive that explains why he's on this list, try this report from Daniel Jeremiah:

"He reminds me of: Andrew Luck. I know Luck is a little bit bigger, but they are similar athletes and they both played with a maturity beyond their age at the collegiate level. I remember watching Luck run over defenders. I also remember being so impressed with his ability to execute on key plays in every game. I see the same things when I study Lance."

He'll be interesting to watch.  Whoever takes him will be taking a huge risk.  He's gong to need development and who knows how far he's capable can getting?

This sounds almost identical to what was being said about Mahomes coming out.  He was a bit riskier of a gunslinger type player (like Winston) but more mature.

I’d agree with you that he might be worth a try but I’m not sure the Bears can afford to risk it again.

It's kind of funny but I don't get the impression that Lance is a classic "gunslinger" per se.  He had 14 TDs and 0 INTs in 2019.  I get the impression that the guys who don't like him just think it all came too easily and that its hard to tell how it will all translate to the NFL.  With almost all of these guys its really just about what's in their heads.  I guess with him it's harder to tell than most.

Honestly, I wouldn't be excited about this. I'd be OK, but not excited. Definitely my SEC bias. It's because of the schools. No.Iowa, Stanford, Louisville, Houston, Syracuse, Pitt...just not that exciting. Feels like a bunch of guys who get cut because they're not that athletic or don't transition to the pro game very well.

Trask sucks.. there I said it.. I mean it would be like the Bears to select him.

Are you a pro scout? I have read some bad and good reports about him. There is only one stud in this draft Trevor Lawrence, and top prospects have failed before. I personally like Zach Wilson but he will never be available at 20 , plus , I'm not a pro scout so my opinion only matters to me.
