Get another four or five draft picks and try and have a draft like the Bears had in the early 80's. Start building a new foundation for a generation. Why would that mean they have to win now or be gone. Set a true foundation of picks to build on and insure them a decade of control? Why does it have to be win now or gone. Change the whole thought process. because their contracts re coming up, and tying yourself to them for 4 more years is a very bad idea. They havent shown that they can do this, so its time to try someone new. there are only two ways to get a coach - you either hire someone who has already been a head coach and fired for some reason, or you elevate a coordinator to first time head coach, and hope they are good. When we hired Nagy, that was a fair question. Could he be a great head coach? But he isnt an unknown now, hes a bad head coach. The same things he screwed up at KC he screwed up here,mainly play calling and getting away from the run. I dont see any argument for keeping him at all. I dont even know why you'd want to? Also why do you think Pace would make choices like those 80s drafts? He had the #2 pick overall, and we got Mitch Trubisky. He chose a head coach and we got Matt Nagy. What if they decide to change their thought process and start to build thru the draft instead of just signing aree agents every year. Nagy has a 28-22 record since taking over. That doesn't make a good coach or bad coach, it makes him average. Especially since he has had poor QBs along the way. The single most important position in football. I'm not trying to drink Nagy coolaide but he's not terrible. Having said that, I prefer to move on from him. He would be best served to just be a HC. Here are some newer coaching comparisons (3-5 years experience), I am surprised that Shanahan gets the benefit of the doubt, but others do not. The only guy to win a SB was fired. 1. McVay 43-21, 4 seasons, 3 playoff appearances (SB loss), 0 losing seasons 2. McDermott 38-26, 4 seasons, 3 playoff appearances, 1 losing season 3. Vrabel 29-19, 3 seasons, 2 playoff appearances, 0 losing seasons 4. Nagy 28-20, 3 seasons, 2 playoff appearances, 0 losing seasons 5. Reich 28-20, 3 seasons, 2 playoff appearances, 1 losing season 6. *Pederson 42-37-1, 5 seasons, 3 playoff appearances (SB win), 2 losing seasons 7. Shanahan 29-35, 4 seasons, 1 playoff appearance (SB loss), 3 double-digit loss seasons 8. Gruden 19-29, 3 seasons, 0 winning seasons * - Fired Lol, Gruden too. Amazing he has survived with that type of record only to see KC get to 2 SBs in that window. Another thing to note, not a single coach/team in that group has made the playoffs every season over that period, which is interesting because Nagy gets a lot of flak but when you compare the results, he is right there in the middle, which is about where he should be. If he hands the reigns over, we will be much better for it. And yes, he can get us to the next level, but he'll need greater discipline. Not saying they need to win a Superbowl this year, but they need to show progress. If the D is supposed to be a strong suit of the team, then support them with a ball control run with play action pass. There in-lies the problem. While Nagy can be a better than average HC, as he does seem to be able to motivate his players, and his players like playing for him. He seems to lack the self awareness that he just isn't good at offensive play calling. He just isn't. While I'm all for people not giving up and getting back up and keep trying, but at some point you have to be honest with yourself and realize something's not in your wheelhouse. Especially when being stubborn is detrimental to others around you. In Naggy's case his unwillingness to admit this and delegate and resist the urge to control that aspect of the game, is detrimental to the team and his ability to become a better HC.
