BearFan PHX
OK so this is a little thing. But ugh. So Nagy is on a zoom meeting explaining that he will not be on the field during the first practice because of a COVID rule, and that he will be watching on a remote video screen. And he makes a joke, saying he will be watching the offense score all over the defense. I think he was hoping some defensive coaches would rib him back. And he prompts Desai, saying "right?" and Desai agrees with him. Grrr. Now maybe he wasnt really paying attention. Or maybe he is afraid to speak up to the head coach. But this guy just recently had his squad skip OTAs while most of the offense showed up. We are all so thrilled at the changes on offense. Rightly so. But I think we need to keep an eye on the defense. Im wondering if Desai has what it takes, and if not having Justin Fields and having Nagy and Pace on the hot seat when it was time to find a new DC didnt really hurt us. And this video is pretty interesting all the through, including ACTUAL footage of the pre draft interviews. I've never seen anything like that before. If that is the biggest criticism of Desai, I will take it. I am not worried about that side of the ball. Gain Goldman, lose Fuller, Jackson in more space, no Skrine, defense will be better. adam
A lot of nuggets coming out of the presser today: "The first time Justin Fields threw a deep ball to Darnell Mooney, Mooney says he was smiling midway through his route." "He threw a pass today against the Cover 2...it was beautiful" - Damien Williams on Justin Fields #Bears C Sam Mustipher said he has put on 10 pounds. He has been working out with Olin Kreutz this offseason.

THere is no question that if we already had Fields, and everyone knew Nagy and Pace werent on such a hot seat at the time that defensive coordinators were taking jobs we probably would have had more interest and ended up with a different name. BUT, Desai is welcome to prove my concenrs wrong and turn me into a huge fan of his. It's very early getting to know him, I just didn't love that one moment on the zoom call, and the defensive players sitting out the OTA made we wonder a bit. none of it means anything real yet tho for sure. ASHKUM BEAR
This is mainly the D vets. They are still getting the scheme assignments through their tablets. Look at it this way, this gives opportunity to younger players to showcase and step up if needed. If the vets are worried about losing their job, they'd be there

If the vets are worried about losing their job, they'd be there yes of course youre right, and Im not predicting anything. I just didnt love that moment on the tape, and I wonder if he is up to the job, not as a result of the tape, just becasue he is inexperienced so far. But he has every opportunity to make me love him. and I would love to see a ferocious defense. we do look like we could be pretty solid on paper. I worry a bit about where Mack really is and the other side pass rush too, but I woudlnt be surprised if Mack returns to form either. I mean, with a real offense they have something to give that last bit of heroic effort for. Its probably hard to find that down 24 points knowing your offense cant come back. Stinger226
Most of the vets (older) are skipping OTAs. No big deal. It would be better if they were there but no big deal. As Adam stated, Mustipher working out with Olin, that's great news , he keeps trying to get stronger and a better player. We have no idea what a difference Desai will make but I do know we weren't getting better with Pagano. Desai learned under Fangio, I would say things will be better than taking the stance they will be worst.. Fuller gone will hurt but Skine was no loss and Goldman being back, Johnson-Nichols-Smith-Vidor-Trevis Gibson getting better is a big plus. Quinn cant have as bad of a season than last year, I think he will be the most improved player on D this year. With Edwards coming back and with addition of Attaochu and Blackson coming in, our front 7 are going to great. Jones being here if Trevathan fails is a plus. We have 10 CBs on the roster, someone will step up to take Fullers place. PLUS our offense will be good enough to keep the D off the field more, something that had a big impact in our games last year. The D failed a lot because they were fatigued late in games. PLUS scoring more points will produce a more aggressive D.

Being a disciple of Fangio you’d think he’d be a bit more coarse in his response. But if Fangio were put in the same position he might not have said anything but in his mind thought ‘you’ve got to be [friggin] kidding me’ while out loud he might’ve muttered a very sarcastic ‘right’. I dont extrapolate much from it. But if I see more, then maybe it becomes a pattern. Right now, its nothing. But then again it's mid June so we have nothing else
