Stinger226
The national press and some locals claim doomsday for this team. Yes we lost Mack and Hicks, but last yr they were hurt more than they helped. This yr we have improved a dismal DB group with the addition of Brisker and Gordon. Johnson has grown one more yr and hopefully the new scheme rejuvenated Jackson. The scheme seems to be more user friendly for Vidor. Graham is expected to take a step forward. We signed Tevon Young, and Clurkshank for added depth. Elijah Hicks seems to be going to make the roster. Smith is back in the fold and should flourish in this scheme. Morrow is running under the radar but was highly productive in LV and has the speed of Smith. SLM is the only question mark but according to Flus is only on the field for 20% of the snaps. Joe Thomas, Matt Adams or Jack Sanborn surely can handle that spot. We lost Mack but our oveall depth is so much deeper. Quinn wont make it to 18 1/2 sacks this yr but double digits should be no problem. Q Muhammad is a baller and had 7 sacks last yr. Gipson is an ascending player. Brian Robinson has all the tools and as the 4th PR, should show some flash. Also out here is Edwards and he has always showed pass rushing skills. The middle of the defense has some questions. Jones and Blackson will be starting with Tonga and Tover as backups. This has the biggest questions on the D but Jones has been getting lots of compliments in practice, Blackson is solid. We will see how they work out. Dont count out them adding someone here after cuts. Overall the scheme is probably the best new addition. The emphasis on TOs and 7 to the ball appears to give the D new energy. If I remember Lovies Ds were bend but dont break . Which is probably what we see here. I think this D is going to surprise people.

They are going to need that energy because we'll almost certainly be giving up some long drives but hopefully they'll be terminated with a turnover. Wait for the offense's mistake, then capitalize on it.
adam
What is weird is you can make a case that 12 defenders could be starters on other teams: Jones - starter in LAC, 3 sacks, 5 TFL, 5 QB Hits, 1 PD in 11 games last year Blackson - starter in HOU/ARZ/CHI, 2.5 sacks, 3 TFL, 9 QB hits, 2 PD Quinn - All-Pro/PB, 18.5 sacks, 17 TFL, 22 QB Hits, 4 FF Muhammad - started in IND, 6 sacks, 7 TFL, 13 QB Hits, 1 FF Gipson - production is starter level, 7 sacks, 7 TFL, 7 QB Hits, 5 FF, 2 PD in 16 games. Smith - All-Pro/PB, 163 tackles, 3 sacks, 12 TFL, 4 QB Hits, 3 PD, 1INT Morrow - starter in LVR, 78 tackles, 3 sacks, 8 TFL, 6 QB Hits, 9 PD, 1 INT in 14 games Jackson - starter, 2 PD, 76 tackles, 4 TFL, 1 FF Brisker - 2nd Rounder = starter Johnson - starter, 9 PD, 1 INT, 46 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 FF Gordon - 2nd Rounder = starter Young - starter in BAL, 3 PD, 1 INT, 2 sacks, 4 TFL, 3 QB Hits Others (not starting on other teams): Edwards - former starter, rotational guy Tonga - potential starter DHC - Super Sub Safety Vildor - former starter Thomas - previous starter in GB and DAL Adams - Super Sub LB Graham - potential Starter Cruikshank - solid depth DB Sanborn - potential future starter Robinson - potential future starter Hicks - potential contributor
adam
What stood out to me was Gipson with 5 FF, Morrow with 9 PD as an LB, Blackson with some nice QB hits, and Quinn is off the charts. Also, there were 43 sacks last year from these 7 players last year: Quinn, Gipson, Jones, Blackson, Muhammad, Smith, and Morrow. That would've been tied for 9th in the NFL last year for an entire team. The entire Bears team had 49 and finished 4th last year. Assuming Quinn comes down to earth, all the other guys stay relatively the same, then add in some other sacks from DBs (Brisker? Nickel?), other LBs (Adams/Thomas/Sanborn), and other DLs (Edwards/Tonga/Robinson), I could see the team hitting 50 sacks this year. Adding just Edwards and Young bumps the total to 47.
