Bears sign Raheem Green, DL to a 1 year deal

Decent production for 568 defensive snaps: 3.5 sacks, 20 QB Pressures, and 5 TFL.

He played the Bears in 2022, had 0.5 sacks, 7 total tackles, and 2 QB Hits against Fields.

This seems like a upgraded rotational piece over the likes of Muhammad/Blackson.

1) Lots of Dline players had their best game against the Best Oline.

 2)  Demeco Ryans didn’t want him.

But he’s  a better athlete than AQM or Gipson.   He’s also more versatile along the front.   He’s better depth than last year and  I like the move.

We’re in the window where teams don’t sign FA until they see what they got in the draft.  Green didn’t find the longer term deal he wanted and wasn’t comfy waiting until after the draft.  I don’t think one year deals are hard to come by.  So he’s looking for team that he feels gets him his best chance at a better contract in 2024 and he chose our coaches to help him do that.  There is also playing time opportunity and we got loads of that too. I don’t know what we’re paying him but this feels different from last year where we had to be the “too high” bidder or  last chance option  even for depth players.

I don’t mind what Poles is doing. He knows this isn’t a one and done off season. He is working on making roster better but also balancing not getting wreckless as he knows this is a long project. Bears are still going to have massive cap space next year plus good draft assets…possibly great draft assets if the Panthers stink (hopefully bears pick isn’t too high cause the team had a good season).

What I like about Poles, he doesn't over pay for a player because of need. He had a value on McG but didn't want to spend 17/5 on a very average RT.

He brings in young players that could be part of the core if they work out. Even thou he had a lot of money to spend, he was patient to get his value.

The WR room was trash last year, he actually fixed it with a mediocre free agent class and no sure things in the draft class.

I think he will get the OL fixed thru the draft and the second phase of free agency.
