Preseason is meaningless

I was searching for any decent highlights of Bagent on deep throws but came up short (no pun intended).  I came across this and was curious to listen to him a bit.  If you want a good idea of how well he interprets plays and defenses listen in around the 11-19min mark.

Someone in the media was saying that you really want a vet in the QB room and on the sidelines to help Justin.   He was promoting PJ Walker as best for that role.  There is a massive leap to NFL defenses especially when they really start disguising coverages but based on what we've seen from these two QBs so far, combined with the level of detail Bagent reads the field with, he might well be the better choice.  Maybe early in the season Walker has the edge but by Week 8?  Go back to Mongo's point that Bagent's strength is the opposite of Fields' and how that could help Fields.

I totally agree. I thin k this kid will help Fields.

If Bagent had a stronger arm, we might have a QB controversy in Chicago. Of course he wouldn't be in Chicago, he'd have been drafted high by a team that needs a QB.

The things he does well, he does very well. So well that everyone is looking. His stats in college are ridiculous. His speed making decisions, and his accuracy delivering the ball are top notch. There is every reason to root for this kid and think he might be a difference maker.

But unless or until he shows that he can threaten the whole field, and deliver those out routes on a rope, there will be questions. If he manages to prove that a half second lead from quick decisions beats ball speed, Ill be a huge fan. Im rooting for this Rudy to become something special. I'd wear his jersey if he could do that.

But, just like Sandborn's speed (or Kwitkowski's!) in time, the limitations are extremely likely to mean he won't be an NFL starter.

Wouldnt it be fun to see him break the mold and prove this wrong?

And all that said, hes absolutely a viable option at QB2! Id keep him for that.

Fortunately we only have one injury that will bleed into the season opener. I know its a long list but we have avoided long term injuries. They stated from the beginning that they would be cautious with injuries and Im okay with that. Would rather have them for the start of the season and maybe not enough practice than not at all.
