yeah thats awesome!
Did he tell you anything about DJs attitude, was he nice (I assume so!)
did DJ say anything interesting about Caleb or anyone?

My son is not a fanactic football fan and didnt talk to  him about football. Someone came over to him for an autograph and he declined, saying he was here socially. He just had small  talk, but did do a shot with his wife. Said he was down to earth, funny guy. He didnt know who he was until someone told him. Someone you could have a beer with . No ego at all.  Because of his neighbors freindship with the security/ bar owner, was going to try to get tickets for a game. He has went before and its a VIP area where wives sit. We'll see.

Thanks for that. Im not surprised, because this is how he comes off in interviews and such, but it's great to have it confirmed firsthand away from cameras. Also it's just plain awesome that your son hung out with him. Thanks.

My  problem is, if he called me, I would have went to the bar, its 50 minutes from my house. He calls me after he got home.

My son had dinner with D J Moore last night. His neighbor is friends with the owner of the bar- resturatant in Byron , il. The owner does security for the Bears and booked Zach Millers band ( former TE). He invited DJ 2 months ago but never thought he would show up because training camp started. He shows up and sits at the table my son was sitting at.

No one knew he was coming , tada, he shows up.

Justin Fields is QB1 for the Steelers opening day at training camp today.   Russell Wilson woke up with a calf issue.  He made a nice deep pass that will surely keep fans excited.  It would be great to see him blossom and improve that draft pick for the Bears.

Absolutely going to happen. He may not not start but will easily play more than Wilson thru the year.

Fields always had a nice deep ball. He is not having to read defenses, and there is no threat to get hit. Once that happens, his brain locks up. If it is his first read and he has time, he can make the pass. Everything else, including MoF throws, he struggles with.

I saw a video of a slant pass. No pass rushers, no LBs sitting, so it looks easy.

I wish him the best, but nothing says he has improved more than when we saw him last.

agree 100%

I was watching the Green Bay game from last year yesterday and it was so maddening to see him hang on to the ball (again).

Justin is a hell of an athlete, but I just don't think he has what it takes to be a successful QB in the NFL.

Yeah, it is unfortunate, because he had all the physical traits to become Cam 2.0. However, there is too much missing in his passing game to overcome in today's modern NFL offenses. Both the offenses and defenses are becoming so complex these days. There are plays within plays and QBs need to be able to process so much so fast that there is a clear demark point between the haves and have nots. Some guys just can't do it, like Fields. They can still be an NFL starter and win games, but rarely do those guys ever go on perennial playoff runs because their success is dependent on too many external variables. I would say any given year that no more than 10-15 QBs have "it" (Mahomes, Jackson, Burrow, Allen, Herbert, Prescott, Stafford, Rodgers) with the jury still out on Hurts, Stroud, Love, Tua, Lawrence, and Purdy. Caleb can easily enter the "jury still out" category this year and get into that group.

There are a group of vets like Goff, Cousins, Murray, and Mayfield that have it sometimes, just not consistently enough for me.

for sure. i will never denegrate Justins physical abilities. He throws a great deep ball, and hes one of the best open field runners in the league regardless of position. I have often compared him to Devin Hester in that regard.

I just dont think he is a QB.

I think his biggest problem was consistency. He has did everything but had to many bumbs in the road. Everyone does realizes if we didnt get Panthers pick  he would still be here. If the Pathers pick didnt fall in the first 2 picks, Fields would have stayed.  I think he gets better. He will never be a top 10 QB but will fall in that next group. He looked great throwing 16 in a row but those type moments just didnt happen enough. IF he improves this year, he will be the starter in Pittsburgh. We get to see his growth from afar now as we watch CW become a top 5 QB as a rookie. I get the rookie growth period but I think he passes those mistakes early and has a redord type year.

well no reason to fight this all through again, but i dont believe he would still be here if we didnt have the Panthers pick. I think we would still have taken a QB and traded up if necessary, but we probably wouldnt have Caleb, and that would be awful.

We can agree to disagree on this, since the Justin Fields civil war is over LOL :)

And in a couple years we will have more data on this too of course.

Depends. If we hadn't been in a position to draft Williams, would we have drafted a QB later that would be ready to start the first game of the season? If yes, I agree, they would have still traded Fields. If not, and the rookie QB had to sit for a spell, I suspect they would have kept Fields until the rookie was ready to start. As much as I like Baget, I don't think they would have turned the keys of the Offense over to him during that learning process.

interesting point. I guess I meant that I dont see Poles exercising the 5th year option, so we'd need to draft a QB, and youre right if the rookie needed to sit, maybe wed have kept JF - I guess i really specifically mean he wasnt the QB of our future, but youre right he might have still been on the roster.

But then again, teams start rookie QBs all the time these days, so maybe not too. But youre right I couldnt be sure, just that I dont think he was in our future plans.

For sure, he would be traded, or cut, and not resigned. If kept, it would have been a stop gap. Maybe start games up until the trade deadline, then when the rookie was ready, trade him. Who knows, a team might have been desperate at that time if their starter went down and give us more than we got from Pittsburgh.

I cant really argue with that.

We will all see how Justin develops in Pittsburgh, but whatever the case, Caleb should make us forget all about it :)

Not trying to fight, just present the opposite view of the outcome. As Pix suggested , i still think we would have taken a QB, I just think Poles would have Fields one more year to prove himself. Not suggesting they we would have given him a long term contract. His 5th year would actually have been cheaper than CW. I am totally sold on CW and feel fourtunate to have gotten him. I just dont think that cancels my wish for Fields to have a good future.

oh yeah, I wasnt saying you were fighting at all, I was saying Im trying not to be fighty myself about that previously touchy subject - youre fine!

Also, I think there might have been locker room issues if you keep beloved Fields around and try to give the rookie the reigns at some point, so you might wanna move him - but there are arguments on both sides that make some sense I agree.

I just think JF will never be a great QB. And since hes no longer here, it doesnt really matter LOL

The cool thing is we have a QB everyone agrees is going to be great.

Jordan Love just signed for 220 mil, for one good year.

truth! and honestly Love really only had half a year! Maybe theyll hit gold, or maybe theyll be saddled to a mediocre QB for a while. Its their turn to find out what that feels like!

One year? More like a great 8 weeks. Defensive Coordinators really had no tape on him so they had to play vanilla defenses and MLF was able to exploit those basic coverages. Now DCs have an entire offseason to get some trend analysis done to determine what Love does the most and take that away. They also can determine his weaknesses and exploit the hell of them. I think Love regresses this year due to this, it might not be much but he will play worse.

GB is taking a huge risk here but they really had no choice. Next year will be really telling for GB as Love's cap hit goes up 43M LMAO. Right now with all their current contracts, they have $40M available cap, so this already puts them over for 2025.  They also only have one or two players that they can restructure to gain space (Jenkins and Smith), so that ultimately means players with expiring contracts won't be back in 2025.

Because he sucked a** at the start of the season and only began to "shine" the second half of the season, he then blew away Dallas in the playoffs and returned to suck against SF.

So he was a Jekyll and Hyde QB last year.
