adam
Everyone knows how bad our offense was this year, but looking at the numbers, our defense fell off just as much from 2006. They were worse against the pass by 37 yds/g, worse against the run by 23 yds/g, had 2 less Defensive TDs, and were worse in every major defensive category other than sacks: > 06 - 07 INT 24 - 16 FF 23 - 20 PD 85 - 64 SK 40 - 41 Losing 11 Turnovers is huge for this team. Also, the passes defended drop-offed considerably (Vasher?). I hope the Bears can also defend better against the screen pass. We seemed to get burned all day by that play. Hopefully this was related to all the injuries on the defense.
BigDaddy
Face it, as nice as it was to beat GB and N.O., this defense must change it's philosophy. This depending on turnovers to win is ludicrous. It's actually just stupid and piss poor coaching. Turnovers are bonuses for a job well done. Teams that don't have sound enough fundamentals don't get alot of turnovers because they don't do the things needed to get them. You get turnovers by gang tackling, by hitting your man so hard it jars the ball loose, but you don't hit him and forget to wrap up. That's what give guys like Adrian Peterson 226 yds rushing per game. No amount of turnovers is gonna help you if you don't play sound fundamental football. Lovie Smith had better realize that or all he's gonna be is another HC waiting to get fired.
DABEARSDABOMB
The defense was as big of a reason for the complete collapse as the offensive problems. In fact there were many games where it was the defense the failed to stop 3rd down drives and ended up blowing leads. Bottom line, sans the special teams unit, this Bears team didnt' do much right until the final 2 weeks of the season.
