adam
The biggest day in the U.S. is today.......the NFL trading deadline. Poles has been one of the more active GMs of late during this period. Will he make any moves? Will the Bears be buyers or sellers? With the ravaged OLine, getting anyone to protect Caleb would be useful. I wonder if guys like Herbert or Allen will be moved? adam
Herbert to Cincy for a 7th. Poles is amazing.....not. You might as well kept him for injury insurance at this point. Poles is really trending down and fast.

Poles is getting a guaranteed 7th in 2025 vs a chance at a 7th round comp pick in 2026. Herbert would have to sign for over $5M to have it be a 6th. At least we got a 7th, we might find our future LT again.

adam
Herbert will replace Moss as RB2 so he is going to get some carries.
Stinger226
I am not speaking to here, I dont remember what everyone wanted, Im on X. Lots of people calling for Poles to trade Herbert because we werent using him. Poles trades him and now their complaning because they didnt get enough. He had no valve ,all these dreamers that thought someone was given us a 4th or 5th round pick was unrealistic. I think it comes down to some people just complain and are never satisfied. I wanted to keep him for a depth piece, more value for a team trying to win.

If Herbert was going to be inactive for multiple games, why not trade him in the offseason. They clearly were going in a different direction with Swift and Roschon. They had to just outright release Velus but had trade offers before the season started. At this point, that is the best he can do, cool, oh well, schucks. The issue is with roster building. If you continually bleed value, it will reflect on the field. 2nd round pick lost for Claypool, 3rd rounder used on Velus. Those missed picks, whether they are traded, or don't pan out, add up. That is why you see teams like MIN and WAS winning while the Bears are struggling.
BearFan PHX
Yeah, if you could keep 200 players, then yeah, anyone that can play is good for depth at least. But you cant. They take up a roster slot and salary cap room. And remember, bad players have no trade value, only good ones do. When you look at the teams with good rosters, you see them trading away good sometimes great players when they know they arent going to resign them to richer deals. Sure you lose them for a season (or a half a season) but you get something for them leaving instead of nothing, and that helps replace the talent thats going, The real recipe to success in the NFL is to draft well, and trade good players you arent going to pay big before the last year of their current deal. When youre seeing good players go, thats when you know you have a good roster.
Stinger226
When you look on his career, those are black marks for sure but its also what did that was good. Ultimately its about winning. Most people said that 9 or 10 victories would be satifactory, with 4 wins and a likely win this week gives us 5 with 8 games left. The last 2 weeks create doubt but that is still possibly. Im one of the idiots thar shot for 12 wins, playoff berth. Do we have a successful season with 9 wins and Caleb playing well at the end of the season? If you win 10 games, but the team won 4 more that you blew at the end with horrible calls, you shouldnt be coach. You have to look at all the decisions he's made and ask yourself if he gives you an active edge in winning. Right now, it is pretty easy to make the case that he actually costs you games and makes it harder to win. But he sure isnt adding value, so he should be gone. He should have been gone last year to be honest. And not because of his record, we all knew what the problems were that werent his fault. But for the errors HE made, unforced errors that any pee wee coach knows better than to do. That's inexcusable. pro coaches dont make those mistakes, and they sure dont make them over and over. Also remember this was a 10-win team last year that won 7 games. Now the Bears are a 6-win team that is 4-4.

And the currency of this one is wins, so hopefully it helps with Stingers point about wins. I went the other way, and proposed other metrics, but if we want to do it on wins, how many is Eberflus personally responsible for losing? There are about 120 total snaps in an NFL game (both teams), you can't afford anything external to the gameplay impacting the play on the field. We feel that with the officials all the time, a missed call or a phantom call, and it really feels like it impacts the game. The same can be said for coaching. If the Bears had Eric Washington as the HC all season, the Bears would at least be no worse off than they are right now. That tells you Flus needs to go because if you can just replace him with just about anyone and there is no drop off, then he is not a benefit to the team in any way shape or form. To me, he always felt like the "safe" pick for HC. I swear he was hired almost immediately after Poles and some questioned if Poles actually had much say in the process. Here we are almost 3 years later and week in and week out it feels like the same time. When there are problems, they will search for the answers, etc, etc. They never find the answer.
